Celebrating Relationships

Did you know the RSM Classic offers more than just general admission to the tournament? There are various hospitality options available that can serve as a valuable resource for growing your business relationships. In 2010, RSM US LLP (“RSM”)  became title sponsor of the RSM Classic to allow the firm to strengthen its stewardship platform and to have the opportunity to connect with our clients, prospects and friends in a meaningful and unique way. It’s worked for us, and that’s why we encourage other businesses to leverage the tournament to deepen their relationships with their contacts. Specializing in creating memorable experiences, The RSM Classic is an exceptional way to entertain and show your appreciation for your most valued business associates.

Genuine Southern Hospitality is at the heart of The RSM Classic, but here are a few elements that differentiate this tournament from other PGA TOUR events:
  • Throwback golf tournament with modern day amenities
  • Intimate fan experience in a relaxed atmosphere
  • Premium viewing opportunities with limited number of spectators
  • A top-ranked, historical venue providing a true ocean-side setting, featuring two championship courses — the Seaside Course and the Plantation Course
  • A variety of beach-front and resort accommodations are available for tournament guests, including The Cloister at Sea Island, a Forbes Five-Star property
  • Davis Love Foundation is the Host Organization; Davis Love III is Tournament Host.
  • Competitive pricing creates one of the best sponsor values on the PGA TOUR

More to “Love” About Team RSM

It’s been an exciting week for Team RSM! On June 15, RSM announced that the firm has added Davis Love IV (Dru), Team RSM Member Davis Love III’s son, to Team RSM through calendar year 2018. Dru played on the University of Alabama golf team, and recently turned pro as he received word he qualified for his first U.S. Open as an alternate from the Georgia sectional qualifier. Dru made his second start in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event, after playing in the 2015 RSM Classic (and official PGA TOUR FedEx Cup event) at Sea Island.

Dru is the third generation from his family to play the U.S. Open. Equally as exciting was having his father and host of The RSM Classic Davis Love III, make his 24th appearance in the U.S. Open, only this time, he was caddying for his son.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of my father and grandfather as a professional PGA TOUR player,” said Dru. “I’m excited to join the RSM family. I’ve gotten to know the RSM team through their sponsorship of the RSM Classic and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of Team RSM, joining my dad, Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson, Paul Lawrie and Andy Sullivan. It’s a great team, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!” Learn more here.

In other RSM Classic news, for the third consecutive year, Imperial Headwear, the #1 headwear brand for private and resort golf facilities as reported by the Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) in their 2016 Member Survey, will be the official headwear provider for the 2017 RSM Classic. This year’s tournament, hosted by 2017 Golf Hall of Fame inductee Davis Love III, will be held at Sea Island Golf Club, November 13 – 19. Learn more here.

This week, a few familiar faces are in Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. Teeing off today is Team RSM member Zach Johnson, alongside past RSM Classic winners Ben Crane (2011), Robert Streb (2014) and Mackenzie Hughes (2016). Below are their tee times for Thurs., June 22:

Studying the Game

In Team RSM news, member Zach Johnson is in Dublin, OH for the Memorial Tournament and joined by past RSM Classic winners Chris Kirk (2013), Kevin Kisner (2015) and Mackenzie Hughes (2016). Starting from tee No. 10, Zach teed off at 7:53 a.m. ET; from the same tee, Chris teed off at 8:15 a.m. ET; not too far behind at 8:26 a.m. and from the same tee was Kevin; and Mackenzie teed off at 8:48 a.m. from tee No. 1. Best of luck to all “our guys” this week!

Back in October 2016, we shared that in the UK, our RSM member firm, in collaboration with the European Tour, had launched a performance study of the game of golf. Phase one of the study has wrapped and they just announced that they are launching phase two of the unique golf research project to understand how the preparation and routine of elite players can affect their performance.

During phase one in 2016, researchers examined the impact of the time players spent over the ball before taking a shot. In total, the team collected data from 7,672 putts, 4,434 drives, 6,693 approach shots and 1,242 tee shots.

Phase two kicked off at the BMW PGA Championship, where RSM was an official partner of the tournament. Twenty European Tour players, including Team RSM members Andy Sullivan and Paul Lawrie, will participate across four European Tour tournaments. Alongside time over the ball, a team of 40 volunteers will collect new data such as the players’ routines prior to addressing the ball and their pre-round preparation on the practice areas of the course.

The research team of RSM volunteers will be inside the ropes collecting data at four tournaments in 2017- the BMW PGA Championship, the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, and the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.

The full study results will be released at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai in November. In the meantime,  head over to the Player Performance Study page and listen to interviews with Dr. Matt Bridge who discussed the types of data that will be collected this year as part of the RSM Player Performance Study.

All the RSM golf talk has us staring at the countdown clock until the 2017 RSM Classic! We are just over five months out from being down in beautiful Sea Island, GA for the eighth annual tournament (Nov. 13-19). Check back next week to learn the latest on Team RSM and other golf-related news!
