The Charitable Side

While Team RSM isn’t playing this week, we do have a few extended RSM “family members” that we plan to cheer on. In San Diego for the Farmers Insurance Open, past RSM Classic winners Ben Crane (2011), Robert Streb (2014) and Mackenzie Hughes (2016) are playing. Teeing off at 10:10am PT from Tee No. 1 is Ben; not too far behind from the same tee, Robert tees off at 10:30am and Mackenize at 10:40am. Best of luck to our guys this week!
Earlier this week, the PGA TOUR shared an incredible announcement. In 2016, the TOUR and its tournaments raised more than $166 million for charitable organizations, generating a record-breaking charitable donation. This brings the TOUR’s all-time total contribution to charity to $2.46 billion since it first started taking contributions in 1938. What an incredible feat! We’re proud to share the value of stewardship with the TOUR through our sponsorship of The RSM Classic!

Just like the PGA, RSM US LLP (“RSM”) and The RSM Classic, understand the importance of giving back. Each year, the tournament provides a platform for our firm to give back to the communities where our employees live and work through Birdies Fore Love, Youth Day and generous support from the RSM US Foundation. We are excited to share that within the next few weeks, we will have the numbers in and will be able to share the total amount raised form the 2016 RSM Classic. Stay tuned for that exciting announcement.

Passing of the Title

Team RSM Member Zach Johnson is in California this week for the Career Builder Challenge. Also playing are past RSM Classic winners Ben Crane (2011), Chris Kirk (2013) and Kevin Kisner (2015). Teeing off at 9:10 a.m., PT on Thurs., Jan. 19 from the Stadium Course is Chris from tee No. 1 and Ben from tee No. 10; Zach tees off at 10:10 a.m. from tee No. 1; and from the Nicklaus Tournament Course, Kevin tees off at 9:10 a.m. from tee No. 10.  Best of luck to all “our guys” this week!

Last week, Jim Furyk was named the 2018 Ryder Cup Captain, following Team RSM Member Davis Love III. However, Davis isn’t completely losing that captain’s title in 2018 because Furyk named Davis as one of his assistant captain. We look forward to watching Team USA as they prepare for the action in France in September 2018.
#DidYouKnow that Team RSM Member
Chris DiMarco is a frequent contributor on the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive? This past week, he chatted about the Abu Dhabi tournament and Rory McIlroy’s back pain, and shared his experience hanging with some live gators on set! No surprise Chris had no issues getting close to the gators (he did attend the University of Florida after all). Check out the footage of him holding one here!

Overcoming Adversity

We spoke too soon last week when we noted that Team RSM Member Davis Love III would be playing in the Sony Open in Hawaii with his son Dru as his caddy. News broke late last week that Davis broke his collarbone and, unfortunately, will be out for several weeks. Ouch! We are wishing you a speedy and full recovery, Davis!

While Davis will be missed on the course, there’s a pretty full house of RSM friends at the Sony Open. Team RSM Member Zach Johnson is playing, along with past RSM Classic champions Ben Crane (2011), Chris Kirk (2013), Robert Streb (2014), Kevin Kisner (2015) and Mackenzie Hughes (2016). Below are their tee times for Thurs., Jan. 12. Best of luck to each of you this week!

The PGA TOUR recently shared a great video about Mackenzie Hughes’ golf journey. The video notes that after overcoming many trials and tribulations throughout his professional golf career, Mackenzie broke through in a five-man playoff to capture his first PGA TOUR victory at The RSM Classic, in just his 9th start on TOUR. Watch below:

Baby, It’s Cold Outside But Team RSM is “Hot”

To keep our minds off the cold that’s sweeping across the U.S., we’re focusing on Hawaii, where the first two PGA TOUR tournaments of 2017 are taking place. Teeing off today in Maui is the SBS Tournament of Champions, with 2016 RSM Classic winner Mackenzie Hughes playing. Next week, the Sony Open is taking place on Honolulu. While the final field has not yet been announced, we do know that Team RSM Member Davis Love III will be playing, and it’ll be a rather special week for Davis who will be entering his 32nd year on TOUR. (Congratulations, Davis!) A familiar face will be caddying for Davis – his son Dru! What a great experience for the two of them; one that will likely be full of memories. Enjoy, Davis and Dru!

And speaking of memories, to bring in the New Year, the Golden Isles News recently shared its list of the Top 10 Sports Moments of 2016. We were proud to see that The RSM Classic made the top spot! It’s hard to beat a five-man playoff, and a Monday finish to complete the sudden-death playoff. Take a look at the complete Top 10 list here.

In other Team RSM news, Chris DiMarco recently participated, along with PGA Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez, in a “battle of the sexes” fundraiser. The two were captains in “Swinging With Purpose,” which helps make a difference for women and children in the Naples, FL community. Read more about this event on Gulfshore Life.
