In One Week’s Time…

…we will officially be The RSM Classic! That’s right, we’re officially changing the name of our tournament to The RSM Classic, to align with our firm’s new name. We’re looking forward to another exciting tournament, and are continuing to add more great names to our 2015 Player Field. We’ve added a second course this year, which will provide even more beautiful views for players and fans, and our headline entertainer will be Martina McBride Sat., Nov. 21. One thing that won’t change: the tournament’s focus on giving back to the community, including the lively and highly rated charity putting event on Wed., Nov. 18. And these are just a few of the activities that will be happening tournament week (Nov. 16 through Nov. 22) at Sea Island. We hope you’ll join us for the sixth annual tournament, and the first one as The RSM Classic!

Our tournament name isn’t the only thing changing. Every four years the Rules of Golf are revised to keep up with the different changes and advancements in the game. Stay ahead and learn about the most significant changes in the 2016 edition of the Rules. Another change, last month, the PGA TOUR updated its prohibited items list. If you're attending this year's tournament, make sure you review the list in advance so you'll have 'smooth sailing' when entering the grounds.
#DidYouKnow - All youth 17 and under are admitted FREE to the tournament grounds (but not the concert grounds) when accompanied by a paid adult, Wed., Nov. 18 through Sun., Nov. 22.

Another positive change: The tournament continues to grow in size and stature. With that, our need for volunteers grows, as well. Interested in volunteering? Sign up here. We’d love to see you on the island!

Before closing, we’d like to make sure our readers are aware of a recent interview with RSM US Chief Finance Officer Doug Opheim and Chris DiMarco on The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive, where they talked about Chris’ “Norma DiMarco Tee Up For Life” charity event and the support RSM provides. You can watch the interview here.

Check back next week to learn what’s happening with the tournament and for additional details about its name change.

Tournament Favorites

This week, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is in Las Vegas for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. With an early start at 7:23 a.m. PT, Davis teed off from tee No. 10. Best of luck this week, Davis!

Speaking of kids, each year at The McGladrey Classic (soon to be The RSM Classic), PGA TOUR professionals team up with Special Olympics of Coastal Calibri athletes and Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Calibri members to play in a Charity Putting Challenge on an obstacle course designed by the Sea Island Golf Performance Center. Executives from title sponsor McGladrey (soon to be RSM) keep track of scores for each team. The event is consistently rated one of the best interactive charity events on TOUR and we’re looking forward to this year’s event on Wed., Nov. 18!

With this year’s tournament just a few weeks away (Nov. 16 – 22), you might want to check out The McGladrey Classic website. You can find the tournament schedule of events, purchase your tickets and learn lots more about this Seaside Tradition! This year, we’re mixing things up a bit with the concert date, featuring none other than Martina McBride, who will be performing on Sat., Nov. 21 from the McKinnon Airport. We are beyond excited, and plan to hit the ground running next month at Sea Island! Be sure to follow us on Facebook (McGladrey Classic), as we’re sharing photos and videos now and throughout the tournament.
Finally, here’s a little Thursday fun for you: Can you spot the five differences between these two photos? List them in the comments below. Good Luck!

It’s Almost Tournament Time!

We’re one short month away from the start of the sixth annual McGladrey Classic (soon to be The RSM Classic)!

As the tournament gets closer, the 2015 player field continues to grow. Competing for a $5.7 million purse, 156 PGA TOUR professionals will tee off on the Seaside and Plantation Courses at Sea Island Golf Club. After two rounds of play, the field will be cut to 70 players (+ties) who will play Seaside. We’re excited that all previous McGladrey Classic champions – Heath Slocum (2010), Ben Crane (2011), Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey (2012), Chris Kirk (2013) and Robert Streb (2014) – will all be participating in this year’s tournament. The field is still growing but, at this point, some of the other familiar names you’ll see this year include six major champions: Angel Cabrera, Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III, Graeme McDowell and Vijay Singh. Check out the current player list on!

Speaking of The McGladrey Classic, we’re still seeking volunteers in three primary areas critical to efficient tournament operations: marshals, laser operators and standard bearers. If you’re interested in helping make this year’s tournament a success, click here! Not interested in volunteering? You can enter to win a trip to the 2015 McGladrey Classic by sharing your favorite golf memory with us. Click here to enter!
#‎DidYouKnow – Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson played The Presidents Cup with a record of 3-0-1 and has a career President’s Cup record of 10-6-1. He was awarded one of only two A+ grades by Global Golf Post for his playing in Korea. He had a big partnership with Phil Mickelson and also took down Jason Day in their singles match this year. Phenomenal playing, Zach!
#‎DidYouKnow - You can upgrade your daily ticket (on-site) with a $20 donation to the Davis Love Foundation, which allows you spend some time in the new Mellow Mushroom Chill Club located between the 16th and 17th holes on the Seaside Course. Learn more about what this upgrade include here.

Check back next week to learn the latest on Team McGladrey and the 2015 McGladrey Classic (Nov. 16-22).

It's All About That Cup...

…the President’s Cup, that is.
This week is one of the biggest in golf (perhaps second only, in our humble opinion, to the week of The McGladrey Classic, but hey…we admit, we’re a bit biased when it comes to “our” tournament), with the President’s Cup underway in Incheon, South Korea.

This is the first year the tournament has been in Asia. And the American’s have started fast, winning four of the five foursomes matches at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club to take a 4-1 lead over the Internationals. When things wrapped up yesterday (Wed., Oct. 9), TeamUSA led after 58 of 79 possible holes on Day 1.

Phil Mickelson and our very own Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson finished the day in the final match, beating Jason Day and Steven Bowditch. What an exciting start to such a great event! We’ll be taking a LITTLE bit of a break from our preparations for the sixth annual McGladrey Classic to watch this week, and to pull for Zach and the rest of TeamUSA. We hope you’ll join us in wishing them the best.

Next week, we’ll be heads-down again gearing up for this year’s McGladrey Classic (Nov. 16 – 22), which will renamed The RSM Classic when the tournament tees off this year. Why the change? To align with McGladrey’s adoption of RSM as its global brand name. There will be lots of other changes for this year’s tournament, as well. Check back in the coming weeks for more details…

Golf Talk & BBQ with Davis Love III

Earlier this week, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III visited Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota for a press conference, in his role as the 2016 Ryder Cup. With the event just one year out, we’re sure to start hearing more as the excitement builds.

Back at Sea Island, we’re looking forward to watching Davis, host of The McGladrey Classic (soon to be The RSM Classic), and other local golfers compete in the BBQ Pro-Am this evening, as part of the Saint Simons Food & Spirits Festival. Proceeds from the event benefit Hospice of the Golden Isles, which is also a Friend of the Foundation charity. You can learn more here.

And while we’re on the topics of Sea Island, The McGladrey Classic and Davis, nonprofit organizations in and around the Golden Isles are selling raffle tickets for this 2015 Buick Verano, courtesy of Nalley Auto. Participating charities keep 100 percent of ticket sales, and the Davis Love Foundation is contributing $50,000 to area charities through the Friends of the Foundation Challenge, presented by Nalley Auto. Find out about this opportunity here.

The 2015 McGladrey Classic is now just 45 short days away! For those attending this year’s tournament – what has you most excited? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the 2015 McGladrey Classic. And as we get closer to the tournament, we’ll have posts by a couple of ‘special guests,’ so you’ll want to check back each week, and then daily during the tournament (Nov. 16 – 22).
