A Winning Memory

Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is in Atlanta this week for the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. Also playing in this tournament is last year’s McGladrey Classic Champion Robert Streb. Both teeing off from tee No. 1, Robert starts at 1 p.m. ET and Zach at 1:40 p.m. ET. We’re sending good vibes to ‘our guys’ for the weekend! PGA TOUR featured an article on '18 things you should know about the TOUR Championship' -- check it out and see if you know any of them!

Going into the final weekend of the PGA TOUR 2014-15 season, the PGA TOUR created a "thank you" video featuring PGA professionals -- you might recognize one of them! -- to say thank you to the fans for their support and making it possible for them to earn a living playing golf. Check out the video below.

Also in Atlanta this week, a small contingent from McGladrey and the Davis Love Foundation met with sports reporters Wednesday evening to share information about this year’s McGladrey Classic to be held at Sea Island in November. There are lots of exciting changes on tap for this year’s tournament, including (a larger player’s field, the addition of an extra course, the movement of the annual concert “Live Under the Oaks” to Saturday evening – featuring Martina McBride this year, a change in the tournament’s name). If you haven’t made it to Sea Island for The McGladrey Classic before, this is the year you won’t want to miss! Get your tickets today!

Earlier this week, Robert joined Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III at Sea Island for the 2015 McGladrey Classic media day. It was a great event, with nearly two dozen media representatives getting a deeper look into the upcoming tournament and related changes. Those in attendance also participated in putting challenge, with proceeds going to deserving children- and family-focused charitable organizations. Check out this article The Golf Channel featured following the event.

As Fall Moves in The McGladrey Classic Draws Near

It's official...we're less than two months away from the 2015 McGladrey Classic, which will soon be renamed The RSM Classic!

In addition to the tournament name change, we have many other exciting things planned at this year’s event at Sea Island. Join us for the charity putting event featuring PGA TOUR players on Wed., Nov. 18, tournament play begins on Thurs., Nov. 19, music superstar Martina McBride will perform on Sat., Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. ET at the McKinnon St. Simons Island airport, and so much more. You won’t want to miss it! If you plan to attend the tournament, check out the list of prohibited items that PGA TOUR has recently shared - just to make sure nothing slows you down when entering the gates.

As summer winds down and fall starts to make an appearance around the country, golfers will need to change their strategy when it comes to playing in the wind. Mark Love, Executive Director of the Davis Love Foundation and brother of Team McGladrey member Davis Love III, shared some tips on overcoming the challenge and avoiding the three common mistakes. Check out his tips here.

While these guys might not necessarily need Mark’s tips, it might be a great refresher for Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson and past McGladrey Classic champions Chris Kirk [2013] and Robert Streb [2014] as they gear up to play at the BMW Championship in Illinois. From tee No. 10, Zach starts at 11:42 a.m. CT; teeing off at 12:26 p.m. CT; and following not too far after is Robert at 12:48 p.m. CT from tee No. 1. Best of luck to everyone this weekend! We’ll be cheering you on from afar.

Before wrapping this week's post, we'd like to congratulate Matt Kuchar, Zach and Chris Kirk on making The Presidents Cup team for 2015! The folks at McGladrey will be pulling for our Golden Isles golfers as they compete for the U.S. Oct. 8-11 in South Korea.

Check back next week for the latest updates on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic!

Team McGladrey: Off the Course But On Their Game!

This week, it’s a quiet one on the course as there isn’t a PGA TOUR tournament taking place, but Team McGladrey members are keeping busy. Both Davis Love III and Zach Johnson were honored last night at Sea Island Golf Club for their most recent accomplishments on the PGA TOUR: Davis for his win at the Wyndham Championship and Zach for his victory at The Open as well as being named Champion Golfer of the Year. Congratulations, fellas! Your friends at McGladrey are so proud of you both!

Following Davis' recent win at the Wyndham, he gave an in-depth interview. You can read that on The McGladrey Classic's website.

Speaking of The McGladrey Classic, it looks as if Sea Island (home of The McGladrey Classic, as well as both Davis and Zach) will be getting a new resident soon. PGA TOUR professional Patton Kizzire is moving to the East Coast to join the golf-rich environment. Who wouldn’t want to live in such a beautiful and hospitable location? We certainly look forward to visiting every year for The McGladrey Classic, which is just a little more than two months away. You can view the full PGA TOUR article here. You can learn more about The McGladrey Classic by reviewing the tournament schedule of events. If you’re interested in going, purchase your tickets now. We’d love to see you there!

We can’t close out this week’s post without celebrating the one and only, Arnold Palmer’s 86th birthday! Earlier this week, The Golf Channel shared a great picture wheel of “The King” throughout the years. Check out the pictures here. What’s your fondest Arnold Palmer moment?

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the 2015 McGladrey Classic, which will be renamed The RSM Classic on Day 1 of the tournament (Mon., Nov. 16) in support of the renaming of the tournament’s title sponsor as we adopt a unified global name.

Don’t Miss Your Chance to Support the Community

With the addition of a second golf course (Plantation) and the larger field for the 2015 McGladrey Classic, a couple of our volunteer committees are looking for a few additional “helping hands” this year. If you are interested in volunteering, now's your chance! We’re looking for volunteers to support a few key areas for this year's tournament—particularly laser operators and marshals.

Laser operators assist PGA TOUR staff with the compilation of player statistics. Each hole will have several volunteers tracking each player’s shots, using lasers. Shifts vary according to tee times. To ensure proper coverage, volunteers are asked to commit to a full day of service and attend a training session.

Marshals provide gallery control for the tournament by monitoring all golf course crosswalks, tee boxes, greens, clubhouse and practice areas. Both volunteer opportunities are good ways to see some fantastic golf while getting “up close and personal” with some of the game’s greatest players.

We, along with Tournament Host Davis Love III, would love to see you at this year’s tournament. Interested?  Register to volunteer here.

Not able to donate your time during this year’s tournament? (We know it’s a busy time of year!) You can always donate to the Friends of the Foundation, this year’s McGladrey Classic fundraiser for local charities. The Friends of the Foundation is selling raffle tickets for $20 each for a chance to win a 2015 Buick Verano, which will be awarded during tournament week.  Participating charities will receive 100 percent of their raffle ticket sales and, in addition, the Davis Love Foundation will disburse $50,000 to charitable organizations, based on their percentage of ticket sales. Learn more about it here. But, that's not all... we're also looking for caddies for the Yamaha Pro-Am on Wed., Nov. 18. Carry a single bag for an amateur with a professional golfer in the group and you'll receive $100 for covering 18 holes! Golf experience is preferred, and volunteers are required to attend one of three training sessions (approximately one hour each) prior to the event. If you're interested, email James Loggin at james.loggin@caddiemaster.org

Before closing this week’s post, we wanted to let our readers know that Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson had a great week last week at The Barclays where he tied for fourth place. Zach is in Norton, MA for the Deutsche Bank Championship this week, where he’s joined by fellow Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and past McGladrey Classic winners Chris Kirk (2013) and Robert Streb (2014). Teeing off from tee No. 10, Robert started at 9:18 a.m. ET; from the same tee, Chris tees off at 1:04 p.m. ET; Zach tees off at 1:40 p.m. ET from tee No. 1; and Davis starts at 2:04 p.m. ET from tee No. 10. Best of luck to all our “guys” this weekend. #DidYouKnow Chris Kirk won this tournament last year – do we feel a back-to-back win?

Be sure to stop by next week for any updates on Team McGladrey and the 2015 McGladrey Classic (Nov. 16-22).
