Was it coincidence?

Last week, The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and the Davis Love Foundation (DLF) hosted the third annual Davis Love III Junior Open at Sea Island. The 78-player field played 54 holes on the Plantation Course at Sea Island Resort on St. Simons Island, GA – one of the two courses the pros will play during the 2015 McGladrey Classic! We want to congratulate Emilia Migliaccio and Colin Kober for winning this year’s tournament in their respective divisions. Emilia earned a three day total score of 3 under par, while Colin finished the tournament at 7 under par. It was a great week at Sea Island Resorts. Way to go, Emilia and Colin!

Also in the news, Team McGladrey member Davis Love III visited Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota last week to go over the logistics for the Ryder Cup with Hazeltine National and PGA of America executives. Before doing that, Davis sat down for a Q&A to discuss the 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup team and more. You can read the full interview here.

Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson is still living in a dream after the second major win of his career. The PGA TOUR shared a great article about Zach and his decanter trophy from the British Open, including discussion about his Hall of Fame credentials and talk of Will Ferrell. I know, it seems odd to have actor/comedian Will Ferrell part of the article, but he might just be Zach’s good luck charm (if you believe in that)! The article says “Of the 495 congratulatory messages Johnson received after his win, one was from the comedian/actor. The two had sat next to each other at a small dinner party at St. Andrews, and exchanged numbers. After last week’s win, Ferrell told Johnson he has attended just two majors – the 2007 Masters and the 2015 Open Championship.” You can read the entire PGA TOUR article here.

A few reminders and a spotlight to wrap up this week…

Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson Wins Big!

This past Monday is one for the books for Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson! Zach prevailed in a three-man playoff to win the 2015 British Open, claiming his second career major by squeezing out a par on the final hole of the playoff at No. 18. Zach rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt at the 72nd hole for a 6-under 66 that put him at 15-under through regulation. When Zach’s birdie on the 72nd hole found the bottom of the cup, his knees buckled and he pumped his right fist. His caddie, Damon Green, did his infamous chicken dance to celebrate. Congratulations, Zach! Your friends at McGladrey are so proud you, not only for your recent win, but for the shared values of respect, integrity, teamwork, excellence and stewardship that you demonstrate every day. Readers, what do you think – might this win make Zach eligible for inclusion in the Golf Hall-of-Fame? Share your thoughts below!

Showing incredible support from other PGA TOUR players, the Golf Channel shared some tweets from fellow players congratulating Zach on his unforgettable win. Check out the collection of tweets here. You can also watch some great post-tournament interview coverage of the win on The Golf Channel Morning Drive, CNBC Squawk Sports and ESPN.

What a great way to start the week! But that’s not all. Also this week,  Team McGladrey member Davis Love III was in Chaska, Minnesota to get his first look at Hazeltine National Golf Club as Team USA's 2016 Ryder Cup Captain. To help in his duties as captain, he also played the course to get a better feel for what it has to offer. From there, Davis headed to Ontario for the RBC Canadian Open. Joining Davis in this tournament are previous McGladrey Classic winners Heath Slocum (2010) and Ben Crane (2011). Having an early start this morning (July 23), Davis teed off at 7:30 a.m., ET from tee No. 1; from the same tee, Heath teed off at 8:20 a.m., ET, and Ben tees off at 1:05 p.m., ET from tee No. 10. Best of luck this weekend, guys – your friends at McGladrey will be pulling for you!

Rounding out the week, the Davis Love III Junior Open is being played at Sea Island Golf Club’s Plantation Course. This is an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) event in its third year at Sea Island Resorts. Check out some of the action shots from the tournament: AJGA Facebook page.
