Speaking of The McGladrey Classic, a great article was featured in Sea Island Life on how the game of golf is completely different due to today’s technology, instructions and athletes. It’s a great read, and even provides breakdown of modern golfers’ swings – including the one and only – Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson! Read the article here [page 18].

And taking a step back in time, we thought our readers would enjoy a little #ThrowBackThursday. Check out this picture of the original clubhouse at Sea Island Golf Club. [Photo credit: Sea Island Resorts] It’s changed quite a bit, but has kept its classic and Southern style. We are very fortunate to call Sea Island home to the McGladrey Classic, and are looking forward to returning to the island for this year’s tournament in November. Between now and then, be sure to check back each week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the 2015 McGladrey Classic [Nov. 16-22].

Beauty of the Course

Team McGladrey is taking this week off, and while things are calm in the Team McGladrey world, The McGladrey Classic received some nice coverage in the news. Golf Advisor noted Sea Island Resort’s Seaside Course when discussing the PGA TOUR’s most beautiful courses. In the article, it says the course would rank in the top five tournaments every year. An excerpt from the article describes part of the course – “The front nine by legendary English architects Harry S. Colt and Charles Alison dates to 1929. The back nine in the marsh was originally created by Joe Lee in the 1970s, but Tom Fazio worked his magic during a renovation completed in 1999 that created today's routing, which is ranked among the top 100 public courses in the country. His bold circular bunkers, faithful to Colt and Alison's distinctive style, add a special architectural touch, often flashing up in front of tiny greens.”

Registration for new volunteers for the 2015 McGladrey Classic [Nov. 16-22] is right around the corner! June 1 registration will open up for all. Returning volunteers can sign up now! To sign up, simply go to https://www.dlfvolunteers.com and enter a username and password.  You’ll then create a profile, then select and submit your top three committee choices. You can also head over to McGladrey Classic’s Volunteer Registration page and get added to the communication list!

Happy Birthday Chris Kirk!

Before jumping into the swing of things, we first want to wish 2013 McGladrey Classic winner, Chris Kirk, a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you have a wonderful day with friends and family!

This week Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL for the PLAYERS Championship. Zach is joined by a number of the extended McGladrey “family” – past McGladrey Classic winners Ben Crane (2011), Chris Kirk (2013) and Robert Streb (2014).

Chris had an early start teeing off at 8:07 a.m. ET from tee No. 1; Ben is shortly after at 8:49 a.m. from tee No. 10; Robert teed off at 1:07 p.m. from tee No. 10; and Zach wasn’t too far behind when he teed off at 1:17 p.m. from tee No. 1. Best of luck to all of our “guys”!

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco spoke with the Boston Herald about the PLAYERS Championship. Describing the type of player the course favors, an excerpt from the article has DiMarco saying “It’s more of a strategic-type golf course. Length is certainly going to help you, but you will see an array of guys up there that are not long hitters but play well. You will see long hitters up there as well, too. If guys are hitting it well with their irons, they are going to be right up there.” Read the rest of the interview here.
