This week, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is in Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans! Chris teed off at 8:30 a.m., CT on tee no.1. Best of luck, Chris! Your McGladrey teammates are pulling for you. The PGA TOUR shared a funny picture from the course earlier this week of a mesmerized J.B. Holmes and Luke Guthrie when they stumbled upon Tripod, TPC Louisiana ‘s famous three-legged gator! Check out how they’re all standing at attention in this picture. And speaking of animal encounters on the course, this Tues., April 22, was Earth Day. In honor of all things Mother Nature, the TOUR shared its Top 10: Animal Encounters on the PGA TOUR. Davis Love III came in at No. 6 when he had an up-close and personal encounter with Tripod. Hopefully, Chris doesn’t get that close to him this week!

And for those who like to plan ahead, on Sat., May 24, the Davis Love Foundation and Sea Island Golf Club will host the third Annual Demo Day Fore Charity. The event will take place at the Learning Center Practice Facility at Sea Island Golf Club from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., ET. Guests will have “inside the ropes” access to test some of the latest golf equipment available, speak with world-class club fitters from Sea Island Golf Club, and receive special discounted pricing on equipment purchased at the event – all for a good cause. Find out more information and register here.

Team McGladrey in Full Force at RBC Heritage

The RBC Heritage tees off today (April 17) on Hilton Head Island, SC, and it’s another exciting one for us, as all three members of Team McGladrey are playing. Chris DiMarco teed off this morning at 7:30 a.m., ET on tee no. 1, and Davis Love III teed off at 12:40 p.m. on tee no. 1, followed by Zach Johnson at 12:50 p.m. from the same tee. The PGA TOUR posted a video of Davis commenting before the tournament. You can view that here. Best of luck to all our guys!

Mon., April 14, McGladrey Classic 2012 winner Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey participated in the Hootie and the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Tournament! You might recall that lead singer Darius Rucker performed at the 2011 McGladrey Classic. Based on that, we’re sure this week’s event was a great time!

Speaking of, The McGladrey Classic always makes us think about beautiful Sea Island – home of the tournament. Well, this week there was some big news about the resort: Sea Island was nominated as one of 20 nominees for USA Today's "10 Best Golf Destinations," to be published April 23. The destination with the highest number of votes wins, so be sure to cast your vote and encourage your friends and family to do the same. You can vote once a day, every day until noon on April 21. Use this link to vote.

And in more news from Sea Island, you probably recall that a couple weeks ago we mentioned that Davis, who lives on the island, didn’t play at the Valero Texas Open because his daughter Lexie (and McGladrey Classic tournament coordinator) was getting married at the family home. Well, this week Davis shared a sneak peek from the wedding. Check out the pictures here.

In closing this week’s update, we’d like to wish our readers a wonderful and cheerful Easter weekend. We hope you all those eggs you hide!

A Week of Golfing Traditions

This week marks one of the biggest traditions in golf…the 78th Masters teed-off earlier today (Thurs., April 10). The PGA TOUR released a fun article on “What it feels like at Augusta National…” It touches on every aspect of the tournament: driving down Magnolia Lane, playing on Sunday, attending a Champions dinner, etc. Our very own Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson was featured in the article. Zach, who won the Masters in 2007, will be competing this year as well, teeing off 9:57 a.m., EST on tee #1. CBS Sports also debuted the outfits Zach (as well as Bubba Watson) will be wearing during this week’s play. Check out the outfits here. The Golf Channel also posted a Hole-by-hole look at Augusta National. Which hole is your favorite? Be sure to tune in and watch on the ESPN. We’ll be watching…and pulling for Zach!

Another tradition of sorts this week: We’re celebrating a special birthday. Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III turns the big 5-0! You can send Davis your birthday wishes by posting them here on our blog or by reaching out to him via his social media platforms (@Love3d or on his Facebook page). Happy Birthday, Davis!

Davis is keeping busy this birthday week. He was in the news a few times: The Charlotte Business Journal featured two of the area’s golf courses ranked by U.S. Golf Associations men’s slope rating. The article featured the Davis Love Golf Management team since they are the new management group for the Firethorne Country Club. And, the Augusta Chronicle discussed the popularity of St. Simons Island, which is home to a number of PGA TOUR players, and home of The McGladrey Classic. Whether it’s the beauty of the island or the warming hospitality with the mom-and-pop shops, Sea Island continues to attract golfers and lovers of the game. We know WE’RE looking forward to returning to the island this October for the fifth annual McGladrey Classic! And speaking of this year’s tournament, earlier this week, the Davis Love Foundation released this year’s “excitement video,” promoting the event. Watch the short video here:

Enjoy the Masters this weekend, and check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the 2014 McGladrey Classic!

Spring Has Sprung

This week, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is in the great state of Texas for the Shell Houston Open. Davis tees off at 1:20pm CST today (April 3) on tee #1. He is joined by all our McGladrey Classic extend “family” winners: Chris Kirk (2013), Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey (2012), Ben Crane (2011) and Heath Slocum (2010)! We’re pulling for “our guys!”

Speaking of Davis, did you wonder where he was last weekend since he wasn’t at the Valero Texas Open? His daughter, Lexie, got married at the family’s beautiful St. Simons Island, Ga., house – under the exact same tent used for The McGladrey Classic pro-am draw party! That’s big news for not only the Love family but for the entire McGladrey family. Congratulations to the Love family on this wonderful occasion!
Not only was this past weekend exciting, but next week is a big one with the Masters taking place in Augusta. Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson will be playing. The field is now set for the Masters, with the exception of the winner of the Shell Houston Open (unless the winner is already in the Masters field). You might be surprised to not see a “certain someone” in the players field this year – it’ll be the first year in his career that Tiger Woods won’t be playing in the tournament. Read what some of his fellow PGA TOUR professionals had to say about Tiger missing the Masters due to recent back surgery in this PGA TOUR article. Tiger, we hope you feel better soon.

While Zach isn’t playing this week, he’s still been busy. On Tues., April 1, Country Inns & Suites By CarlsonSM announced their new three-year sponsorship of Zach. Check out the announcement, in Carlson’s news release.

Bill Murray recently rocked one of the funniest outfits we’ve seen on a golf course while attending the 14th Annual Murray Bros. Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament. Like The McGladrey Classic, the Murray Bros. tournament helps raise funds for charitable organizations.

Finally, as a reminder, new volunteers can now sign-up to support the 2014 McGladrey Classic.. Volunteering for the event is a great way to get an inside peek at the inner workings of the tournament, while enjoying the beautiful Sea Island scenery and contributing to the success of the event. Interested? Sign up here.

In closing, we’d like to share an incredible story about PGA TOUR caddie Paul Tesori, his wife, and their son Isaiah. It’s a touching illustration of the close-knit nature of the PGA TOUR community. If you have a few minutes,  read the story. We guarantee it’ll touch your heart.

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey, the 2014 McGladrey Classic and all other golf-related items.
