Tune In To The McGladrey Classic

This week, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is in San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open. Zach teed off this morning (March 27) at 8:10am CST on tee #10. Best of luck, Zach!

Speaking of Team McGladrey, we’d like to congratulate the Davis Love Golf Management team (founded by Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and his brother Mark Love) on being selected to manage the Laurel Island Links in Kingsland, GA. In 1996, Laurel Island Links was the second course designed by Love Golf Design. Davis and the rest of the team are excited about adding Laurel Island Links to their portfolio of courses, and we’re excited for them!

Next Tues., April 1 (No foolin’!) is the first day NEW volunteers can sign-up to support the 2014 McGladrey Classic. Volunteer slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait too long! Spots have filled up quickly in the past – even though it takes 1,200 volunteers to make the tournament a success each year. Will you be joining us at Sea Island in October?

Another member of The McGladrey Classic family Ben Crane, winner of the 2011 McGladrey Classic, recently partnered with Golf Digest Magazine for a new video series “#GolfSecrets with Ben Crane.” Ben’s larger-than-life personality comes across loud and clear in the first episode, which you can watch here.

After watching the video, tell us… Are YOU in the “now” when YOU enter the squat stir?

This isn’t the only series Golf Digest is rolling out. Others will include Nerve Wreckers, Breaking Bad Scores and The Hot List.  In their news release, Golf Digest describes the channel as, “a wide range of content focusing on Golf Digest’s core strengths in equipment and instruction, as well as humorous and informative original series.” We think Ben hit it out of the park (or maybe off the course?) with the first video. What do you think?

Also this week, the Golf Channel announced on Tues., March 25, that they will broadcast the Friday matches at the 2014 Ryder Cup. This will be the first time that the network has provided live coverage of the event. You can bet we’ll be tuning in! Will you? Here’s the complete schedule (all times are ET):

·         Day One (Sept. 26): 2:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Golf Channel
·         Day Two (Sept. 27): 3 a.m.-1 p.m. on NBC
·         Day Three (Sept. 28): 7 a.m.-1 p.m. on NBC
For more updates on Team McGladrey, the 2014 McGladrey Classic (Oct. 20-26) and other things related to the game of golf, be sure to check back in next week.

The Skinny on Arnold Palmer and Team McGladrey

We hope you had a great St. Patrick’s Day this past Monday (March 17), and that you didn’t receive too many pinches if you forgot to wear green. May the luck of the Irish be with you and yours throughout the year!

This week, Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson (world rank No. 10) are in Orlando for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Today (March 20th), Davis tees off at 8:35am EST on tee #10, while Zach tees off at 12:56pm on the same tee. The tournament is airing on the Golf Channel and NBC Sports but if you can’t get to a TV, you can follow along online! Also, check out PGA TOUR’s quick video giving you tips on what it’s like to play the 18th hole at Bay Hill.

Speaking of “The King,” earlier this week the PGA TOUR featured a story: 18 things about Arnold Palmer that his wife, Kit, shared. It was fun to get an “inside peek” at some of Arnold’s lesser-known preferences. PGATOUR.com is featuring several of these segments from TOUR wives on facts we should know about their husbands, so stay tuned for more insights on some of your favorite PGA TOUR professionals.

Also earlier this week, on Tues., March 18, we tuned in to Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco’s SiriusXM oPINionated, when Stewart Cink (@stewartcink) made a guest appearance! Listen in every Tuesday, and feel free to chime in to their discussions. We know Chris and his guests would love to hear from you.

Check back weekly to stay up-to-date on McGladrey Classic-related events and activities (those will be picking up as we get closer to the October 2014 tournament.) and to keep up with Team McGladrey. Have something specific you’d like for us to address here? Let us know. We love hearing from our readers!

Cute + Fun = Golf!

After having the volunteer window open for returning volunteers for The McGladrey Classic for just one short week, more than 30 percent of the volunteer spots for the 2014 tournament (Oct. 20 – 26) have already been filled! We believe many of the volunteers enjoy the event as much as we do! Haven’t volunteered for The McGladrey Classic before? Want to be a part of one of the PGA TOUR’s finest tournaments on one of the most scenic courses ever at beautiful Sea Island? The registration window for new volunteers opens Tues., April 1. You’ll want to mark your calendar and register as quickly as possible once the window opens, though, because, in years past, the slots (which are filled on a first-come, first-served basis) have filled up quickly. We’d love to have your support in making this year’s tournament a success!

The McGladrey Classic “family” is having a mini reunion this week at the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida. This morning (March 13), Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III teed off at 8:30am EST on tee #10; Ben Crane (2011 McGladrey Classic winner) teed off at 9am EST on tee #1; and Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey (2012 McGladrey Classic winner) tees off at 1:20pm EST on tee #1. Best of luck to all of “our guys” there in the sunshine state!

Speaking of Ben, he and fellow PGA TOUR Professional Chesson Hadley shared some great family pictures this week. After winning his first PGA TOUR event at the Puerto Rico Open, Chesson “decorated” the winning trophy in one of the most unique (and cutest) ways we’ve ever seen. Take a look at the PGA TOUR’s photo on the left. Simply adorable, right? Ben shared a family picture on Facebook when he wished his wife, Heather, a happy birthday. We can’t believe how big Saylor has gotten. She was born the day after Ben won The McGladrey Classic in 2011!

We mentioned earlier in this post that The McGladrey Classic is held at Sea Island. In case you missed it, CNN Travel recently released its list of 8 seriously playful hotels, and Sea Island made the list! Check out what the publication had to say about Sea Island’s resort features:

This massive resort on Georgia's coast packs in a lot: Nature lovers are especially spoiled with plenty to do, from salt marsh exploration to kayaking to an after-dark survival skills course where younger guests are groomed for the outdoors with lessons in pitching tents, lighting fires, reading a compass, etc. The resort can also provide a very thorough primer in gyotaku fish printing that includes dissecting the fish. For guests who prefer a more traditional take on play, there's a life-size chess set on the lawn, and a very civilized weekly Bingo service, where men age 12 and up are required to wear a jacket.

For more updates on Team McGladrey and the 2014 McGladrey Classic, check back next week!

Lend a helping hand at the 2014 McGladrey Classic

Time flies, doesn’t it? It seems as if we were just congratulating 2013 McGladrey Classic Winner Chris Kirk and then, just earlier this week, the Davis Love Foundation announced that the window is now open for returning volunteers to begin registering to help with the 2014 tournament! (The registration window opens for new volunteers on April 1.) Volunteering is near-and-dear to our hearts here at McGladrey. Not only does it make The McGladrey Classic possible and support our core value of stewardship, but it’s also a passion for our 6,700+ employees who give back to the communities where they live and work through our annual Volunteer Day and throughout the year. We’re looking forward to seeing The McGladrey Classic volunteers who return each year, and to meeting those of you who will be helping this year for the first time. Are you interested in helping make this year’s McGladrey Classic a success? Complete your application form. We’ll look forward to seeing you at Sea Island in October.

This week, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is in Miami for the World Golf Championship-Cadillac Championship. Zach teed off at 12:28pm EST on tee 1. He’s joined by Chris Kirk, who teed off at 12:06pm. Speaking of Chris, this has been quite a year for UGA alumnus. Chris started the momentum when he won the 2013 McGladrey Classic—and since then four other UGA grads have gone on to win a tournament. Go Dawgs!

And while we’re on the topic of previous McGladrey Classic winners, 2011 McGladrey Classic winner, Ben Crane’s birthday is today (March 6). To celebrate, he’s doing something special partnering with charity:water to raise money and awareness for people without clean water. We are so inspired and humbled by Ben’s support of this great cause. Stewardship is clearly one of Ben’s core values. Thank you, Ben – and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

For more updates on Team McGladrey and the 2014 McGladrey Classic (Oct. 20-26), be sure to check back in next week.
