Totals and Polls

With the Waste Management Phoenix Open kicking off today (Thurs., Jan. 30), Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco stopped by The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive to discuss low rounds at the tournament. If you missed it, check out the discussion here. And, speaking of Chris, we wish his daughter Manda a belated happy 16th birthday this week! (Her special day was Jan. 28.)

Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson has been in the news recently: First, when he committed to play at the Honda Classic (Feb. 24 – Mar. 2) and  then when he was nominated as one of four PGA TOUR professionals as the organization’s Player of the Month. Zach is in the running based on his outstanding performance during the month of January. Now, it's up to fans to choose the winner. Voting is open Jan. 29 through Feb. 2. Click here to vote for Zach now!

While you are in the voting mood, check out The Center for Corporate Citizenship’s 2014 Film Festival website. Many amazing videos have been entered to demonstrate how companies use a video as a communication tool to share their stories of corporate philanthropy. Be sure to check out McGladrey’s Hurricane Sandy video and cast your vote for the most compelling video! McGladrey’s video represents the importance of stewardship. All around the country, McGladrey employees pulled together to help out their fellow colleagues and others in the Northeast who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

And speaking of supporting the community, McGladrey expands its philanthropic efforts each year through its title sponsorship of The McGladrey Classic. During the 2013 tournament, McGladrey upped the ante a bit by encouraging employees and clients to support the tournament’s Birdies Fore Love program. The results are in, and we now know that the 2013 McGladrey Classic raised more than $850,000 for local and national charitable organizations! ($430,000 of that was raised by McGladrey employees and clients through Birdies Fore Love.) This brings the total raised through The McGladrey Classic to more than $1.8 million since the tournament’s inception in 2010. It is an honor and a privilege for McGladrey to be associated with such an initiative. For  details about how last year’s golf tournament supports charitable organizations, visit the McGladrey website.

Check back next week for another update about Team McGladrey and all things related to The McGladrey Classic, to be held in October 2014 at beautiful Sea Island.

Announcements and Awards

This week, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is in La Jolla, CA for the Farmers Insurance Open. Davis is in group 50, teeing off at 10:40 a.m., PST. PGA TOUR Commissioner, Tim Finchem, made a big announcement from the Open: the PGA TOUR and its tournaments have surpassed $2 billion in all-time charitable giving! Stewardship has been a part of the game of golf since its early days – just as it is one of McGladrey’s core values. We are thrilled with the Commissioner’s announcement this week, and applaud all of those who give back to their communities – by supporting PGA TOUR activities, participating in their employers’ volunteer activities and/or in any way that resonates for them personally and is meaningful to the community. For more details about this week’s announcement by Commissioner Finchem, check out PGA TOUR’s Facebook page in the notes section.

And speaking of news, this week Sea Island, home to The McGladrey Classic, has been awarded four prestigious Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star ratings for the sixth year in a row! Way to go, Sea Island! New year, new resolutions, new wins!

Talk about starting the new year off with a bang! Congratulations to Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson on his win at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions this past week in Kapalua, HI! Fun fact about this win is this is the start of Zach’s 11th PGA TOUR season and he just won for the 11th time! Check out the video the PGA TOUR posted of the top five shots of the week (week of Jan. 7). Zach’s final round, second hole, second shot was #1. Incredible job!

Jumping over an island, this week, Zach is in Honolulu, for the Sony Open in Hawaii. Does anyone feel back-to-back wins coming? Teeing off at 12:30pm, Zach is in group 30. Even though Zach is the only Team McGladrey member there, you may recognize a few extended members in the McGladrey family: Heath Slocum (2010 McGladrey Classic winner), Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey (2012 McGladrey Classic winner), and Chris Kirk (2013 McGladrey Classic winner). Best of luck to the boys! Who are you rooting for at the Sony Open?

Speaking of other Team McGladrey members, earlier this week, Chris DiMarco was at on the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive giving tips on playing in windy conditions and swing speed. If these interest you, check out some of the blog posts Mark Love, Executive Director of the Davis Love Foundation, shared on The McGladrey Classic website. He, too, discusses tips for playing in the wind.

To wrap this post up, we just want to say welcome back and happy new year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and was able to take some time to relax with friends and family. Check back next week for more updates!
