Happy Holidays!

This past weekend, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco was paired with Billy Horschel for the Franklin Templeton Shootout, where they finished fourth! You can bet there was celebrating going on after that tournament. Chris also had another reason to celebrate recently: he and his wife Amy celebrated 22 years of marriage. Congrats, Chris and Amy!

As the end of the year draws near, we’re reflecting a bit on 2013, and we have a lot to celebrate this holiday season. 2013 was an incredible year for McGladrey and for Team McGladrey. A quick recap of just a few achievements includes:

·         Zach Johnson won the BMW Championship and the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge
·         An astounding estimated $430,000 was raised by McGladrey employees for charities nationwide through The McGladrey Classic’s Birdies Fore Love program. (The grand total raised through Birdies Fore Love and through The McGladrey Classic in 2013 is still being tallied. We’ll share those results here once they’re finalized.)
·         Davis Love III was the captain’s assistant at the U.S. President’s Cup, alongside Zach Johnson who was part of Team USA.
·         Home of the McGladrey Classic, Sea Island Resort’s, The Lodge and The Cloister, were ranked #1 and #2 resorts, and The Spa ranked #4 hotel spa in the Continental U.S. in the Travel + Leisure 2013 World’s Best Awards!
·         Zach and Davis teamed up for the inaugural TA 4 Life Pro-Am Invitational at Sea Island Golf Club.
The PGA TOUR also did a recap video of the best shots from 2013. Our very own Zach Johnson came in at No. 4 on this list for his shot on day 3, tee 15 at the Presidents Cup, and No. 2 for his 18th hole shot on the final round at the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge. Impressive!

We’ll be taking a break the rest of this month to wrap up things at the office, and to spend some time with family and friends. We hope you’ll check back with us in the New Year, and we wish you and yours a joyous holiday season!

Congratulations Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson!

This past week at the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge,  Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson rallied from four shots back with eight holes remaining for the victory, defeating Tiger Woods in a playoff.  Following a spectacular hole out from the drop zone on 18, Johnson emerged victorious with a par on the first hole of the playoff.  With this victory, Johnson moves to 9th overall on the Official World Golf Ranking, entering the top-10 for the first time in his career. Congratulations, Zach – we’re so proud to have you on Team McGladrey!

And what did Zach do as soon as he returned home to Sea Island (home of The McGladrey Classic) from his big win? He had a celebratory meal with his family at Southern Soul BBQ! Check out the Twitter picture he posted. That looks delicious!

Wrapping up the year for PGA TOUR tournaments is the Franklin Templeton Shootout in Naples, FL. Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is paired up with Billy Horschel for the tournament. Their tee time was at 10:42am ET this morning (Dec. 12). The first tournament of 2014  will be the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The PGA TOUR reported that Zach has committed to play. Not too shabby of a place to kick off 2014!

With the holidays right around the corner, you’re probably seeing lots of seasonal decorations. For those who live on or by Sea Island, if you haven’t had the chance to get a Christmas tree, make sure to stop by the Winter Wonderland, located by Taylor House Interiors! Proceeds benefit Blessings in a Backpack at Altama Elementary School! Hours are Mon – Fri from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., ET and Saturday from noon to 9 p.m., ET. You’ll get a fabulous tree while supporting a deserving local organization!

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the 2014 McGladrey Classic (Oct. 20-26, 2014).

And the winners are...

Welcome back to the McGladrey golf blog following last week’s long holiday weekend. We hope you enjoyed time with friends and family over the Thanksgiving weekend, and that you had the opportunity to reflect on all of the things for which you are grateful. Those of us here at McGladrey have much to be thankful for – including your overwhelming support for The McGladrey Classic’s Birdies Fore Love Program. Check out the Twitter picture posted earlier this week (to the left here on our blog), which gives you a glimpse of the hundreds of envelopes arriving at the Davis Love Foundation – each of them containing donations for deserving charitable organizations! Your contributions are making a positive difference for the beneficiaries of more than 90 children and family-focused charities! Thank you.

It’s hard to believe that the 2013 McGladrey Classic is already almost a month behind us. Each year, the months of planning lead up to a spectacular week-long event that seems to be over in the blink of an eye. Not to fear, though, we’re still wrapping up a few things from this year’s tournament and are already thinking about next year’s. And Team McGladrey isn’t slowing down much, either. This week, Zach Johnson is in California for the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge. He’s in group 3 with Australian Jason Day. Their tee time was at 9:52am PST today. Davis Love III is at Nalley Brunswick Automobiles on Sea Island where they just announced the winner of the Birdies Fore Love competition. And we were thrilled to learn that McGladrey’s very own Gavin Martin (from our Boston office) was this year’s winner! Gavin won the worldwide contest by most closely guessing the number of birdies that would be made during the 2013 McGladrey Classic. His grand prize winner. His prize? A 2013 Buick Encore!  The charities benefitting from the Boston office’s fundraising are:  NEADS, which provides service dogs for deaf and disabled Americans, and Associated Early Care and Education, which is focused on school readiness for disadvantaged children.

But Gavin and the Boston office’s selected charitable organizations weren’t the only winners. Special Olympics Coastal Georgia received an additional $5,000 for being the charitable organization that most closely guessed the correct number of birdies without going over! And of course, the ultimate winners in all of this are the children and families served by participating charitable organizations. Check out the video of some of the winners receiving their checks on McGladrey Classic’s Facebook page. It’ll make you smile.

Next year’s McGladrey Classic is scheduled for Oct. 20-26, 2014, and if the past four years have been any indication, the time between now and then will fly (kind of like a “birdie” – we know, bad pun – just couldn’t resist). We hope you’ll check back weekly between now and then for updates on all things golf!
