The McGladrey Classic - Fun for the Whole Family
Today’s guest post
is by Mary Anne Burke, national consulting talent acquisition director for
McGladrey, based out of the firm’s Vienna, VA office. When Mary Anne’s family
learned about volunteer opportunities related to The McGladrey Classic, their
bags were packed for this “not to be missed” family event. Below is an update
from Mary Anne about her family’s experience at the 2013 McGladrey Classic.
Volunteering for The
McGladrey Classic was an easy decision for the Burke Family. We’re a
golfing family. Everyone plays. And when my family learned there was an
opportunity to join the 1,500 plus volunteers for The McGladrey Classic, we
were happy to add our names to the list of volunteer supporters for this PGA
TOUR event at Sea Island. I was thrilled with the family’s enthusiasm for the
tournament, and thought this would be a perfect opportunity to give back to McGladrey
by supporting the event behind-the-scenes. My parents even joined us. It was a
fantastic experience for everyone, which created lasting memories and lot to
talk about at the dinner table!
Volunteering for The
McGladrey Classic is not only easy, but fun, as well! We met so many wonderful
people while at Sea Island. My son Connor plays on his golf team at school, and
was happy to help with any assignment. His first appointment on Thurs., Nov. 7
was on the first hole, mid-fairway where he worked as a laser operator. On
Fri., Nov. 8, he was on the 13th hole. Sat., Nov. 9, he was a
standard bearer for two groups. Walking inside the ropes was a tremendous
thrill for him. My daughter Brianna and I had mother/daughter leader board
assignments. We enjoyed keeping up-to-the-minute scores on the big board, both
on the 9th hole as well as in the Fan Village. My husband Bryan
helped by transporting players from the practice green to the first tee – an
assignment that allowed him to hold wonderful conversations with world-class
athletes and their spouses.
I’d highly recommend
volunteering at The McGladrey Classic. It provided our family with a tremendous
opportunity to spend the weekend together, and to connect with other volunteers
along the course. It was a great experience for the entire family.
Interested in
volunteering for the 2014 McGladrey Classic? Opportunities will be posted under
the Volunteer tab ofThe McGladrey Classic
website a few months prior to next year’s tournament (scheduled for Oct. 20 –
26, 2014). You’ll want to sign up early, though, as there was a waiting list
for this year’s event. And if you register early, you’ll have a better chance
of being able to choose which committee(s) you’d like to support.
I hope to see you at Sea
Island next October!
