The Clock is Ticking…

Today, Sept. 26, kicks off two local events on Sea Island to support children’s charities. “Meet the McGladrey Classic Pros” is taking place at 5 p.m. ET at The King & Prince Golf and Beach Resort. Lucas Glover, Chris Kirk and Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson will all be there for this great cause. Tomorrow (Fri., Sept. 27), the Rotary of St. Simons Island presents the “Swing for Kids” golf tournament, starting at noon, ET, at The King & Prince Golf Course. If you’re in the area, you might want to check out one – or both – of these fun events.

Also this week, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL for the Web.com Tour Championship. Chris is in group 40, which tees off at 1:48 p.m., ET on Dye’s Valley Course Tee #10. Next week, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III will join Zach in Dublin, Ohio for the President’s Cup. Check out the official President’s Cup website to get the inside scoop on the 24 players set to compete, and take a look at what the U.S. team will be wearing during the tournament. Pretty snazzy if you ask us! What are your thoughts on the U.S. teams uniforms?

Next week, Sea Island will host McGladrey Classic Media Day on Mon., Sept. 30. National and local sports reporters and other media personalities will gather to learn more about this year’s tournament, and participate in some fun events, which will benefit select charitable organizations. We’ll update you next week on those events. In the meantime, you can follow us on Twitter (@McGladrey) or Facebook (McGladreyNews and McGladrey Classic) for a few “real time” updates and pics from Sea Island.

And while it’s not this week or even next, it’s coming up quickly. The McGladrey Classic is only 38 short days away. We’ve had a few more early commitments for the 2013 McGladrey Classic field since our last blog update. Joining us on St. Simons Island Nov. 4-10 will be Tim Clark, Carl Pettersson, Kyle Stanley, Robert Allenby, Charles Howell III and Stuart Appleby – just to name a few. Of course, many others will join over the coming weeks what’s already shaping up to be a strong field. We’re excited!

Finally, we want to share this week’s Seaside Course highlight: Hole 12 is a Par 3 playing 223 Yards. It has averaged 3.07 strokes and yielded 135 birdies over the first 3 years. This par 3 features a medium-sized bunker to the right of the large, back-to-front sloping green. Collection areas lie in front, behind and on both sides of the green.

Check back next week for more updates!

Congratulations, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson!

What an exciting week! First, on Mon., Sept. 16, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson had everyone on the edge of their seats. In the final round of the rain delayed 2013 BMW Championship, Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk, and Nick Watney were neck-and-neck, until Zach pulled through with the win! Zach shot a bogey-free 65 on Monday to rally from three shots back. This win was Zach’s 10th PGA TOUR victory, and it put him at No. 4 in the FedExCup point standings. If you’d like to send your congratulations to Zach, feel free to leave those here, and we’ll pass them along. (Our congratulations also go to Jim Furyk, who became the sixth PGA TOUR player to shoot 59 during the BMW Championship – joining Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval, Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby in the history books. Well done, Jim!) This week, Zach Johnson is in Atlanta, GA for the TOUR Championship. Zach is in group 14 which tees off at 1:50 p.m. ET.

Also this week, The McGladrey Classic announced a few early commitments for this year’s tournament. The player field is already shaping up for an amazing event! Here are just a few of the early commitments for the tournament:

A bonus is a shuttle service – that means no driving and no parking! Click here to find out more information and reserve your tickets.

Another ultimate experience available during this year’s McGladrey Classic is a VIP package for the Toby Keith concert. The concert will take place the evening of Wed., Nov. 6 “live under the oaks.” The package includes two Delta airline tickets, two VIP concert tickets, a one-night stay for two at Sea Island and more! Enter for your chance to win. Hurry though, the contest ends at midnight Sun., Sept. 29.

This week’s Seaside Course picture is of hole 11 which is a par 4 playing 425 yards. It has averaged 3.96 strokes and yielded 233 birdies and 1 eagle in the first 3 years. This is a heavily bunkered, straightaway par 4. Three large bunkers and dunes line the right side of the fairway and a large, deep bunker is on the left. The fronting bunkers near the green on both sides give the illusion of a shorter approach shot. However, an overly aggressive shot may find the marsh behind the green.

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic… it’s only 45 days away now…!

Giving Back Through Golf

This week, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is in Lake Forest, IL for the BWM Championship. Zach is in group #2 which teed off at 10:31 a.m.  Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is in Columbus, OH for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. He’s in group #42, teeing off at 1:58 p.m.

This week’s course highlight is hole 10 on the Seaside Course. It’s a par 4 playing 426 yards, which has averaged 3.99 strokes and yielded 224 birdies in the first three years. This straightaway par 4 has a tidal creek to the left and marshland and a steep fairway bunker to the right. The approach is to a narrow elevated green which slopes back to front. A deep bunker guards the front of the green and collection areas lie to the right and left. To date, which hole has been your favorite?

Speaking of the Seaside Course, you know it’s getting close to time for The McGladrey Classic when the first batch of tickets are being mailed! Tickets ordered to date will be sent over the next couple of weeks, so be on the lookout if you’ve ordered yours!

If you want to go to The McGladrey Classic but haven’t yet ordered your tickets, consider this: The ultimate golf and hospitality trip for two could be YOURS if you enter to win the Sea Island Resorts Dreamstakes. And while you’re entering for a chance to win this spectacular prize package, check out this month’s volunteer spotlight on The McGladrey Classic website. Jeanie Trotochaud, one of our Childcare Committee Volunteers, and her husband Terry travel from Athens, GA every year for The McGladrey Classic. Jeanie’s cheerful disposition and willingness to help whenever and wherever needed is greatly appreciated by her committee chair Ann Chaplin Scoville and all of us here at McGladrey as well as the Davis Love Foundation. Read more about Jeanie here.
While we’re on the topic of volunteering, McGladrey has a long history of giving back to the communities where our employees live and work. (Insert hyperlink to the Community page of our website.) It’s in that spirit that we have made it a priority for our firm to support the Davis Love Foundation’s Birdies Fore Love (BFL) program. This program supports children- and family-based charities by allowing participants to pledge by either dollar amounts or per birdie at the McGladrey Classic. This year, thousands of McGladrey employees across the country will support the BFL program through a unified, coordinated effort led by employee volunteer Chris Parrish. Learn more about the Birdies Fore Love and how you can participate on The McGladrey Classic site.

Team McGladrey Will Team At 2013 President’s Cup

This week, the U.S. President’s Cup roster spots were finalized. We are beyond excited to see that our very own Team McGladrey Members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III (captain’s assistant) will  be on the team. Also this week, Chiquita Classic is taking place in Davidson, NC. Teeing off at 8:58 a.m. ET today (Sept. 5) is Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco in group no. 9.

Switching to OUR favorite tournament, The McGladrey Classic, this week’s Seaside Course image is hole 9 which is a par 4 playing 435 yards. It has averaged 4.03 strokes and yielded 153 birdies and 1 eagle in the first 3 years. This is another straightaway par 4 with water to the right and a large fairway bunker to the left off the tee. The shot to the green is slightly downhill with a large bunker to the left and a mound to the right of the green. Collection areas short, long and left of the green will require a well-placed approach shot.

And while we’re “on the island,” all of you UGA Alumni and fans, you might want to consider enjoying The McGladrey Classic from inside the DAWG HOUSE. What a great way to cheer for your favorite PGA TOUR players, including those that played college golf at University of Georgia! Find out more information and purchase your tickets here.

We are now officially less than two months away from the 2013 McGladrey Classic! A few weeks ago, there was a fantastic article on MENAFN.com about our gearing up to debut as FedEx Cup event. Be sure to check out the full article! Here is a snippet from the read:

With its new status as top-tier FedEx Cup event and an automatic placement for the winner into the next Masters tournament at stake, the future is looking bigger and brighter for The McGladrey Classic on St. Simons Island, executive director Mark Love said.

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the McGladrey Classic (Nov. 4-10).
