Quick catch up on what Team McGladrey is up to… Zach Johnson is at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, MA. He is in group five, which tees off at 8:28 a.m. this morning (8/29). Closely behind, but states away, is Chris DiMarco in Fort Wayne, IN for the Hotel Fitness Championship. Chris is in group nine which tees off at 8:58 a.m.

With The McGladrey Classic just a little more than two months away, The McGladrey Classic team invites you to be part of the second annual Wiffle Ball Classic! The McGladrey Classic, in conjunction with the PGA TOUR Wives Association, is hosting the Wiffle Ball Classic to raise funds for Blessings in a Backpack - Altama Elementary School. Click here for details about the event and how you can become a sponsor. Take advantage of this terrific opportunity today and come out on Nov. 5 to cheer on all of the players!

Have plans for Thurs., Sept. 26 or Fri., Sept. 27? If not, join us for Rotary’s Annual Meet the Pros Event at King & Prince on Sept. 26 and stick around the following day for the Swing for Kids Golf Tournament. It’s a chance to get up close and personal with PGA TOUR Professional Lucas Glover & Friends as we gear up for The McGladrey Classic and raise funds for children’s charities in the Golden Isles. Get your tickets for one… or both… days of events here.

Hole 8 of Seaside at Sea Island Golf Club is a Par 4 yielding 374 Yards. In the first three years of the McGladrey Classic is has averaged 3.85 strokes and yielded 302 birdies. The slight dogleg-right has two large, deep bunkers, one on each side of the fairway, for players to navigate with their tee shot after carrying the marsh. The approach is to a slightly elevated green, which is well protected by a large bunker fronting the right side with collection areas to the left and behind the green.

Don’t forget, Birdies Fore Love is accepting pledges! Pledge.Guess.Win. Guess the Birdies and get your chance to WIN a 2013 Buick Encore! All participants who make a minimum birdies pledge of $0.01 or one-time donation of $10 or more are eligible to win by simply filling out a pledge form and guessing the total number of birdies that will take place during the 2013 McGladrey Classic. Find out more details and make your pledge here.

In closing, we want to say thank you and congratulations to Marsha Smith, the Executive Director at KBGIB (Keep Brunswick-Golden Isles Beautiful) for her upcoming retirement after 16 years with KBGIB. Since 2011, KBGIB has helped The McGladrey Classic secure wonderful volunteers for our Ecology Program during the tournament. They have been a HUGE asset to the success of our program and extending our green footprint on course. Since Marsha joined their team in 1997, KBGIB's impact and participation in the Golden Isles community has increased ten-fold. Great job, KBGIB! We ook forward to working with your wonderful volunteers again in 2013!

We hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic  (Nov. 4-10)!

Happy Birthday, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco!

First things first, tomorrow (Aug. 23) is Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco’s birthday! We’ll be sending him birthday wishes from McGladrey, and hoping he has a fantastic day. If you want to send your birthday wishes, leave those here, and we’ll be sure to pass along your good wishes, as well.

This week, the Seaside Course picture is of hole 7 which is a par 5 playing 566 yards. It has averaged 4.74 strokes and yielded 422 birdies and 12 eagles in the first 3 years of the McGladrey Classic. The first of two par 5’s on the Seaside Course, the seventh hole is a fairly straight play. There is water along the right side of the fairway and marshland and dunes to the left off the tee. The second shot is challenged by a large fairway bunker on the left side and more dunes on the right. There is marshland to the right and long which will challenge players who seek to reach the green in two shots.

We are in now just under two-and-a-half months away from  the 2013 McGladrey Classic (Nov. 4-10)! A few items to check out if you plan to attend this year’s tournament:
·         Schedule of Events
·         Tickets / Merchandise
·         Hospitality/Pro-Am Hospitality Packages
·         Toby Keith ‘Live Under the Oaks Concert

We’ll be following The Barclays this week (starts today Aug. 22),  and pulling for Ben Crane, winner of the 2011 McGladrey Classic. He’s in group 31, which tees off today at 1:50 p.m., ET. Even though Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is at number 18 in FedEx standings, he will be missing the tournament for a very good reason: to be best man at his brother's wedding!

And speaking of Ben, if you haven’t seen his latest YouTube video, “Bubble Boy,” you might want to check it out. He never ceases to make us laugh.

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic – our excitement about this year’s tournament is growing!

Three's a party!

Well looky there, we get to cheer on all members of Team McGladrey this week! This doesn’t happen too often so we get excited  when all three of “our guys” are playing in the same tournament. Zach Johnson, Chris DiMarco and Davis Love III are in Greensboro, NC for the Wyndham Championship. Here are their groups and tee times:

Speaking of Team McGladrey, the Zach Johnson Foundation recently posted pictures on their Facebook page from the 2013 Zach Johnson Foundation Classic. Be sure to ‘Like’ the pictures and let them know we sent you over there!

A new charity spotlight has been posted to The McGladrey Classic website. This month’s feature focused on the Golden Isles Children’s Center (GICC) merger with Safe Harbor Children’s Center. This collaboration will benefit children in the Sea Island community. Learn more about the merger here.

Last week we announced that Toby Keith will be performing at the “Live Under the Oaks Concert” during this year’s McGladrey Classic (Nov. 4 – 10). The concert will take place Wed., Nov. 6. If you want to attend, don’t wait too long before you purchase your tickets. VIP packages sold out in an astonishing six hours! Check out the other packages and purchase your tickets here.

This week’s Seaside Course is hole 6 which is a Par 3 playing 169 Yards. It has averaged 2.88 strokes and yielded 237 birdies in the first 3 years. The downhill par 3 has a deep bunker in the front of the green and a lake behind it. The large green slopes from bank to front, and a slight ridge runs through the center of the green, creating slopes left and right from the center.

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic. This year’s tournament will be here before you know it – we hope to see you there!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!

You might have noticed this week’s post is a day later than our usual Thursday postings. Well, the Davis Love Foundation was working on a big announcement about this year’s McGladrey Classic (Nov. 4 – 10), and we wanted to help share that news here, so we decided to postpone this week’s update until today, but first, here are a few updates on Team McGladrey and other items related to this year’s tournament:

Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson are in Pittsford, NY for The PGA Championship which started yesterday (Aug. 8). For Round 2, Zach is in group 88, which teed off at 8:45 a.m. today, and Davis is in group 74, teeing off at 1:45 p.m. To watch live streaming of the PGA Championship, sign up here or if you are lucky enough to be near a television, TNT has coverage today from 1pm – 7pm EST.

With less than three months until the 2013 McGladrey Classic, tickets are now on sale! Choose from daily, weekly or special packages. As a reminder, youth, age 17 and under, receive free admission Wed., Nov. 6 through Sun., Nov. 10, when accompanied by a paying adult. Active and retired military get free admission Thurs., Nov. 7 through Sun., Nov. 10, when they show their official military IDs.

This week’s beautiful Seaside Course image is hole 5, which is a Par 4 playing 409 yards. It’s averaged 3.96 strokes and yielded 256 birdies and 3 eagles in the first 3 years. This is a risk-reward dogleg-right. The marsh on the right requires a 250-yard carry to cut off the corner and allow a short-iron shot to the green. The approach is to a large oval green with a bunker fronting the right and marsh areas to the right and long.

Okay, we made you wait long enough, drum roll please…. superstar Toby Keith will perform “Live Under the Oaks” this year at the McGladrey Classic! The concert will take place on Wed., Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. ET. The concert, presented by Southeast Georgia Health System, will be held after the Official McGladrey Pro-Am event. We are so excited to team up with Toby Keith to continue one of McGladrey’s core values of stewardship. Proceeeds from the Live Under the Oaks Concert will benefit charities of the Davis Love Foundation.
“Having Toby Keith perform during The McGladrey Classic exceeds our expectations,” said Tournament Director Scott Reid. “Keith’s love for the game of golf, the outdoors, and his laid back attitude is a natural fit to the atmosphere here at The McGladrey Classic at Sea Island and the Golden Isles. We are confident that we’ll have a sell-out crowd.”

This year’s concert is sure to be a sell-out, so order your tickets now via The McGladrey Classic website. Let us know if you plan to attend and if you’re as excited as we are for the performance!

Check back next week for more updates on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey.

The Countdown Continues

Wow! The 2013 McGladrey Classic has reached the double-digit countdown – only 94 days until tee off of this year’s tournament (Nov. 4-10). To share our anticipation, we thought our readers might enjoy the 2013 McGladrey Classic Excitement Video! Let us know what you think.

The official McGladrey Classic website has posted a new sponsor spotlight. This month we’re showcasing Nalley Auto Group, a proud supporter of the Davis Love Foundation since the inception of The McGladrey Classic in 2010 – initially through their support of the Player Transportation Program (they provided a fleet of courtesy vehicles for PGA TOUR Players to use while in the Golden Isles); then, beginning in 2012, Nalley continued their support through the Foundation’s latest fundraising tool, Birdies Fore Love. They have provided a Buick GMC vehicle to the donor who correctly guesses the number of birdies accumulated during The McGladrey Classic each year! Read more about Nalley Auto Group here.

Speaking of Birdies Fore Love, this year McGladrey LLP , title sponsor of The McGladrey Classic, launched a social responsibility program in support of the firm’s core value of stewardship. As part of this program and in conjunction with The McGladrey Classic, McGladrey offices across the country will raise funds for local charities that are focused on children and families. Leading McGladrey’s Birdies Fore Love program, is Chris Parrish, an employee based out of the firm’s Vienna, VA office, who was selected from a firm-wide process that allowed interested employees to submit applications for the role. Here’s a snippet of what Chris had to say:

“We have the chance to rally collectively around our local communities through Birdies Fore Love. This program allows me, and all of us as a firm, to have a hands-on role in advancing our firm’s social responsibility program. We can retain talent through employee engagement and ultimately generate personal and professional growth by giving back to our communities.”
We’re looking forward to having Chris join us at Sea Island this year. In the meantime, hole 4 of the Seaside Course is this week’s image. It is a Par 4 playing 429 yards. It’s averaged 4.16 strokes and yielded 147 birdies over the first three years. This dogleg-left has water on the right and a marsh on the left. The fairway bunker straightaway of the tee provides an excellent aiming point. The shot to the green requires distance control as the wide but shallow surface is protected by a large bunker on the left and collection areas short right and long.

Of course, we can’t talk about the Seaside Course without mentioning Team McGladrey. On Mon., July 29, Zach Johnson hosted the third annual Zach Johnson Foundation Classic. The Gazette posted a few pictures from the event so be sure to check them out (click here). Zach is currently in Akron, OH for the World Golf Championship – Bridgestone Invitational. Also this week, Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco are in Reno, NV for the Reno-Tahoe Open. In group #12, Chris teed off at 7 a.m. Davis was shortly behind, teeing off at 7:44 a.m. in group 16. (Davis is in the same group as 2012 McGladrey Classic winner, Ben Crane!) Good luck to all our Team McGladrey members!

Check in next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the McGladrey Classic.
