Team McGladrey Updates

Congratulations to Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson who played an AMAZING weekend of golf in Scotland for the Open Championship, tying for sixth place following a strong start to the tournament.

This week, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is up north for the RBC Canadian Open. Chris is in group 40, which teed off at 12:15 p.m. today (July 25) on Glen Abbey Golf Club tee #10. We wish the best of luck to Chris this weekend! Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is on home territory for the inaugural Davis Love III Junior-AM Fundraiser, which kicked off Mon., July 22 on Sea Island. Today is the final round of the tournament, and Davis will present the trophy to the winner this afternoon. We’ll share pictures and more details of this event next week here on the McGladrey golf blog!
And speaking of Sea Island, hole 3 is this week’s Seaside course picture which is a Par 3 playing 214 yards. It’s averaged 3.10 strokes and yielded 138 birdies over the first three years of The McGladrey Classic. Click here to find out more about this hole!

Have you seen the latest golf video that is going viral? This could take golfing… and watching the game… to the next level! Titleist Performance Institute used a GoPro camera during a bunker shot. Check it out below – it’s pretty amazing (and might even make you a little dizzy)!

Titleist Performance Institute also recently interviewed Zach. Watch the July 18 video. Do you agree with Zach’s thoughts on defined practice?

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the McGladrey Classic (Nov. 4-10).

A week full of golf and events!

What an amazing golf tournament last weekend at the John Deere Classic! Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson played a spectacular game, carrying the lead into the final round. Ultimately, he came in a strong second. Congratulations Zach for an AMAZING nail-biter, and to winner Jordan Spieth, the youngest player to win a PGA TOUR event in 82 years!

This past Mon., July 16, PGA TOUR professionals, including Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco, came together for a golf clinic at the Aspen Golf Course. Chris, who has been helping Aspen Junior Golf for nearly a decade, participated in an auction allowing the winner to play with him during the Pro-Am tournament. To find out more about this event, check out the Aspen Times article.

Now back to Zach who who is playing at The Open Championship. He teed off this morning (July 18) at 10:06 a.m. local time, and has been holding the lead this morning! The man’s on fire! For those who will be watching The Open Championship from Sea Island, we highly recommend tuning in from the BREAKFAST AT THE BRITISH on Fri., July 19. (Sign up here). Get a chance to watch, play and enjoy some international treats!

Also this week: Chris DiMarco and fellow Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III are at the Senderson Farms Championship. Chris is in group five, which teed off at 7:44 a.m., and Davis is in group 28, which tees off at 12:55 p.m. Best of luck to our boys!

Finally, The McGladrey Classic is spotlighting volunteer Jeanie Trotochaud this month. Jeanie is one of our Childcare Committee Volunteers. She and her husband travel from Athens, GA every year for The McGladrey Classic. McGladrey is so appreciative of all of our volunteers. We wouldn’t be able to have a successful tournament each year without their support! Read this month’s volunteer spotlight here.
This week’s unique image is Hole 2 of the Seaside Course is a Par 4 playing 415 yards. It’s averaged 3.97 strokes and yielded 241 birdies over the first 3 years. Find out more on hole 2 here.

With The McGladrey Classic quickly approaching (now just a little more than three months away!), check out this year’s schedule of events and be sure to get your tickets and merchandise.

Sea Island Resorts is Tops!

We returned from the recent holiday weekend to exciting news related to The McGladrey Classic. We previously mentioned that our 2013 field size might decrease to 120 players to accommodate this year’s post daylight savings date, however, that will not be the case. The 2013 event we will have a 132-player field! On top of that piece of good news, we learned that Sea Island Resort, where the tournament is held, recently announced that The Lodge and The Cloister have been ranked #1 and #2 resorts, and that The Spa ranked #4 hotel spa in the Continental U.S. in the Travel + Leisure 2013 World’s Best Awards! The Lodge and The Cloister host many of The McGladrey Classic’s evening activities during tournament week, and we know from experience that these high rankings are well deserved, based on the beautiful venues and the stellar service offered at each. Congrats to the teams on the island who made these rankings possible!

This is an exciting week for Team McGladrey, as all three members are playing at the John Deere Classic (JDC). Zach Johnson is the defending champion and has been getting some great media coverage leading up to the tournament. Check out KCCI’s coverage (below) of Zach talking about defending the title. Zach and Davis Love III are paired together in group 17, which teed off at 7:30 a.m. this morning (7/11). Chris DiMarco also teed off this morning with group 9 at 8:20 a.m.. Here at McGladrey, we will be tuning in and cheering on our guys!  Who are you rooting for this week?

Now, back to The McGladrey Classic: We’re now accepting resumes for this year’s ticket intern position. You don’t have to be experienced with ticket programs to apply, so if you’re interested, submit your resume! You can learn more by contacting Courtney Stiles at

With The McGladrey Classic only 115 days (Nov. 4-10) away now, we hope our readers are getting amped for the tournament. For the next 18 weeks on the official McGladrey Classic website, we will  showcase unique imagery from one hole of the golf course each week, and provide key stats and facts through the tournament’s social media outlets. Be sure to follow along to see these stunning images. If they don’t get you anxious for this year’s tournament, we don’t know what will!

Check back next week to see what’s new with Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic.
