Happy Fourth of July!

Happy birthday to Golden Isles resident and PGA TOUR player, Matt Kucha, who celebrated his birthday this past Sunday (June 21). We hope you had a wonderful day, Matt!

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco made a special guest appearance at McGladrey’s partner meeting this week in Orlando!  Chris spoke to the partner group about playing on the PGA TOUR, his partnership with McGladrey and about his annual Norma DiMarco Tee Up For Life tournament, which benefits ROCK – Reach Out to Cancer Kids.  Chris also spent time at our philanthropic event that evening where teddy bears were made for the Orange County First Responders, back packs were filled for children attending Camp Boggy Creek, rocking chairs and bookshelves were built for area schools and care packages were assembled for our active military. Following a day of meetings, the McGladrey leadership team, RSM International representatives (insert hyperlink) and McGladrey Alliance (insert hyperlink) members rolled up their sleeves to give back to the area community through a philanthropic event where they:

·         Assembled 150 military boxes for those serving overseas,
·         Packed 200 backpacks for children attending Camp Boggy Creek (insert hyperlink),
·         Assembled 36 book shelves,
·         Wrote personalized messages in 100 books for children in need,
·         Assembled 40 rocking chairs, and
·         Stuffed 216 animals made for the first responders of Orange County.

It was a great way to exemplify McGladrey’s core value of stewardship.

Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III teed off at 7:50 a.m. this morning (June 27) at the AT&T in Bethesda, MD. And each summer Zach Johnson goes back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a Pro-Am to raise money for a program he started “Kids on Course.” Find out more about this program here.

We will be taking next week off to celebrate the Fourth of July! We wanted to take this time, however, to remind you to sign up for BREAKFAST AT THE BRITISH, which will be taking place July 19 at Retreat Golf Club. It’ll be a fun way to watch The Open Championship LIVE while dabbing your taste buds in some international treats!

We hope our readers have a safe and bright holiday. Be sure to share with us your Fourth of July fireworks pictures on Facebook! Check back July 11 for more updates on Team McGladrey and the McGladrey Classic (Nov. 4-10).

Golf and Charity - A Winning Combination

Last Saturday (June 15), the Demo Day Fore Charity took place at Sea Island. It was a successful event with great attendance, gorgeous weather and a surprise guest appearance by Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III! The event raised about $2,500 for charity. Golf and giving back in combined...who could ask for a better day?! Those of us here at McGladrey are already looking forward to next year’s event!

A new volunteer spotlight has been released by the Davis Love Foundation: Kim Belt is a local volunteer who works closely with the Davis Love Foundation through both volunteering and through charities, The Gathering Place. Click here to read more about Kim Belt.

Earlier this week, the Davis Love Foundation also announced a few upcoming events they are hosting:
·         DLF is launching a fundraising campaign for our communities newest outreach program with The First Tee.
·         Fri., July 19, join DLF at the Retreat Golf Club for the first annual BREAKFAST AT THE BRITISH event. Enjoy a Scottish inspired breakfast and then join in on an 18-hole team shamble competition. To find out more on what this event entails or to register, click here.
·         Mon., July 22, spend the day with golf’s next generation with Davis Love III’s Junior Open Junior-AM Fundraiser! Learn more and signup here.

With young golfers in mind, a new golf league has kids of all skill levels not only playing the sport in the Golden Isles, but doing so as a team. The area’s own PGA Junior League began play June 12 with teams representing the Sea Island Golf Club, Brunswick Country Club, Jekyll Island Golf Club and The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia. The league has six teams with three Sea Island teams playing. Mark Love, executive director of the McGladrey Classic said “It’s a new format and a great way to get more kids involved in the game.” Mark Love compared the Junior League to golf’s version of Little League Baseball and said the format helps keeps the pressure off players who may not be as advanced as others on the course. Read more about this youth league and view photos from the inaugural event.

A quick update on what Team McGladrey Members are up to this week. Davis Love III and Zach Johnson are playing at the Travelers Championship. Davis teed off at 7:30 am EST today (June 20) and Zach will be teed off at 12:50 pm EST. Best of luck at the Travelers Championship!

Check back in next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and the McGladrey Classic… now only 136 days away!

Charities and Weather in the Spotlight

Last week, Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson played at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, where Davis tied for 18th! Following the end of this tournament, the PGA TOUR and Tom Auclair interviewed Davis. You can watch the full PGA TOUR interview here, while Auclair’s interview is below.

This week, the U.S. Open is taking place at Merion Golf Club, and Zach (who is in group 33) tees off at 4:33 p.m. due to weather issues plaguing the Northeast (Thurs., June 13).   Unfortunately, the PGA TOUR just can’t seem to catch a break this season!  Check out the weather map Zach tweeted. It’s not looking too good!

While this week’s tournament is looking a bit risky, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a clear and sunny forecast for The McGladrey Classic at Sea Island in November (4-10). Speaking of The McGladrey Classic, the rescheduled Demo Day Fore Charity is taking place this Saturday, June 15th! The weather seems like it’s going to be beautiful down in Sea Island. You still have time to sign up if you want to attend! Click here to register.

The McGladrey Classic has also posted a new charity spotlight to the media center. Through “Blessings in a Backpack,” Altama Elementary School volunteers pack bags each week for 468 students. Read about these amazing volunteers and their hard work here.

Another great charity opportunity related to The McGladrey Classic is Birdies Fore Love, which donates 100 percent of pledge donations to participants’ choices of our participating charities. Guess the correct number of birdies for a chance to win a 2013 Buick Encore! Check out last year’s car giveaway…that could be YOU this year if you guess correctly, while supporting a great cause!

We end this week’s post by wishing our readers a happy and safe Father’s Day weekend, and inviting you to stop by next week for more updates on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey.

Dads, Birdies, Goodies and Team McGladrey

We’ve got a number of exciting updates this week!

-          With Father’s Day right around the corner, (Sun., June 16), the tournament’s Father’s Day special provides an amazing gift that any golf-loving dad will “love.” Quantities are limited so don’t wait too long to reserve a package for that special man in your life! The ‘Love for Dad Package’ includes:
·         Two “Good Any One Day” tickets
·         Personalized hardcover copy of Every Shot I Take by Davis Love III
·         Two sleeves of Bridgestone golf balls
·         One casino chip ball marker

-          We are excited about this year’s Birdie Fore Love program, which provides financial support for local and national charitable organizations. This year, we have a few additions, ‘heavy hitters’ Ronald McDonald House (Jacksonville, Gainesville and Savannah) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jacksonville. Through Birdies for Love, golf enthusiasts can support these organizations and even have a chance to win a 2013 Buick Encore. All participants who make a minimum birdies pledge of $0.01 or a one-time donation of $10 or more are eligible to win by simply filling out a pledge form and guessing the total number of birdies that will take place during the 2013 McGladrey Classic. One-hundred percent of all pledge donations go directly to your favorite participating charity. Make your pledge today.

-          The McGladrey Classic merchandise store just stocked their shelves with 2013 tournament merchandise, which includes a new item this year: The McGladrey Classic’s first upscale trucker hat – in navy and white with a Velcro closure. Order yours and check out the other merchandise here.
In addition to all of the tournament activities, Team McGladrey members are busy this week, as well. Chris DiMarco and Davis Love III are playing at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis. Chris is in group 14, which teed off at 7 a.m. his morning (Thurs., June 6), and Davis is in group 30, which tees at 12:37 p.m. Earlier this week, Zach Johnson participated in Media Day at The John Deere Classic, for which he is the defending champion. At the Media Day, Zach tried to reenact his winning shot from last year. (Check out his attempt below!)

Stop back by next week for more updates on The McGladrey Classic (Nov. 4 – 10, 2013 at Sea Island) and Team McGladrey.
