Congratulations, Team McGladrey!

Congratulations are in order for Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III!

First of all, last week’s Crowne Plaza Invitational (May 23-26) was a nail biter! Congratulations to Zach for his strong third-place finish! Great job to Boo Weekley who took home the trophy!

Earlier this week (May 29), Davis received some exciting news: U.S. Presidents Cup Team Captain Fred Couples named Davis as his second captain’s assistant, alongside Jay Haas! Below is an excerpt by Fred Couples, regarding Davis from the PGA TOUR article:

“I’m really excited to have Davis as part of the Team. He is one of my closest friends and his experience as a team member and Ryder Cup captain will be invaluable at Muirfield in October.  I know his friendships and relationships with the players out on TOUR will also be a huge help to me leading into The Presidents Cup.  It’s going to be a great event, and we’re going to have a lot of fun, there’s no doubt about that.”

Way to go, Davis!

The Memorial Tournament starts today (May 30) up in Dublin, OH. Davis tees off at 8:04 a.m., and Zach 12:43 p.m. Best of luck to “our guys!” Next week, St. Jude Classic is taking place in Memphis, TN starting June 6. Players have until this Friday (May 31) to sign up but so far, Davis is part of the player field! We’ll let you know if any other Team McGladrey Members (i.e., Zach and/or Chris DiMarco) decide to participate.

With June right around the corner, we wanted to remind you of a few things:

Team McGladrey Trying to Make History

We want to start this week’s post off on an non-golf related topic. McGladrey sends their deepest condolences to those affected by the tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma this past Monday (May 20).  We hope everyone stays safe and comes together in these times of need.

Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is down at the Crowne Plaza at Colonial this week to defend his 2012 title. Zach is joined by fellow member Davis Love III who his making his second appearance since his surgery in February. Zach is in group no. 15 which teed off at 7:33 AM on Thursday morning and Davis is in group no. 27 which teed at 12:33 PM (May 23). With Zach being Colonial’s 2012 champion, there has been quite a few feature articles written about him. The PGA TOUR released an article about the difficulty of the Colonial course however it’s clear that this is a course that Zach excels on. Also, if Zach is to win this event, he will be the only other person, besides Ben Hogan, to win back-to-back at Colonial! Not too shabby of company!

Check out the PGA TOUR’s Memorable Moments from the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Zach Johnson is featured for his 2010 win!

The McGladrey Classic is featuring a special this week to celebrate our fourth year of our tournament. If you purchase 3 Good Any One Day Tickets, you’ll get a 4th ticket FREE! This offer ends May 27 so don’t wait too long or this great deal will pass! Buy here now.

The McGladrey Classic also released this month’s Volunteer Spotlight. Featuring this month is Larry Kemper from Macon, Georgia. Larry has volunteered on both the Marshal and Supply Distribution Committees. Click here to read the conversation with Larry.

All About Team McGladrey

Last week, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III made his return to the PGA TOUR at THE PLAYERS Championship, following his successful neck surgery earlier this year. Both Davis and fellow Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson got off to a hot start. To ease back into the game, Davis is taking this week off, but we will see him out on the course the week of May 20 at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. This will be Davis’ 24th Colonial appearance, and Zach will be there defending his 2012 title. We’re pulling for a win by one of “our guys!”

This past Tuesday (May 14), Zach joined Holly Sonders from the Golf Channel to shoot “Playing Lessons” on Zach’s home turf at Frederica Country Club. The episode will air in early June! We’ll be sure to give you a “heads up” as time grows closer.

The HP Byron Nelson Championship began yesterday (May 16). We’re looking forward to cheering on Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco, who tees off at 1 p.m. Speaking of Chris, his summer golf camp is just around the corner. What better way to kick off your child’s golf career than learning from a pro?! Find out more about his golf camp here.

Also this week, Mark Love, Davis’ brother, released another one of his golf tips – this time on chipping around the green. Also from the South East, St. Simons Island was featured in a Huffington Post article listing the island’s “Six Southern Charms.” It’s a great read to learn more about where The McGladrey Classic is held. (Check out No. 6 for mention of The McGladrey Classic!) What’s some of your favorite things about St. Simons Island?

Check back next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic.

A Special Weekend Coming up For Team McGladrey – and for Mom

If you were planning to attend Demo Day for Charity last Saturday (May 4), you know by now that, unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled due to inclement weather. While the planning team was disappointed, they wanted to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The good news: The event has been rescheduled. If you want to attend – and to support a great cause – mark your calendar for Sat., June 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It promises to be an amazing event!

Recapping last week’s activities, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson discussed his play at the Wells Fargo Championship. You can read the interview here. Speaking of last week, this past Mon., May 6, Zach and fellow Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III teamed up for the inaugural TA 4 Life Pro-Am Invitational at Sea Island Golf Club. What an amazing cause! You can find out more about TA4Life here. (Check out the picture Davis posted from the event!)

The 2013 PLAYERS Championship starts today (May 9), and we’re excited that Davis will be back in the game! He’ll be playing alongside Zach, who started early with an 8:39 a.m., ET tee time in group #9. Davis is in group #42, which tees at 1:07 p.m. We’ll be cheering on Zach and Davis! Who are you rooting for?

On a McGladrey Classic note, planning for this year’s event (scheduled for Nov. 4 – 10) and related activities is underway as you read this post. A few members of the McGladrey team are at St. Simons Island, GA, this week meeting with the Davis Love Foundation and others on the island who work together to make The McGladrey Classic a “must-see” PGA TOUR event. We’ll keep you posted as details are finalized for this year’s tournament.

In the meantime, you don’t have to wait until November to purchase McGladrey Classic merchandise; the tournament office has already started adding new “goodies” to its online store. Check it out! Can we expect to see you rocking some of these items on the course? We’d love to see pictures of you and your golf buddies sporting McGladrey Classic gear. Upload your pictures and tag us on Facebook or @McGladreyClssc!

We can’t close this week’s post without acknowledging the fact that this Sunday is Mother’s Day. Your friends at McGladrey wish all of the mothers and mothers-to-be out there a very Happy Mother’s Day! If you’re taking your mom to the course this weekend to celebrate (we can’t think of a better way to spend some time with Mom.), send us your pictures.

Check back next week for our next update on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic.

Giving ‘Congrats’ and Keeping Our Fingers Crossed

Last week, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco was in New Orleans for the Zurich Classic, and he had a lot to say about this year’s winner (and personal friend), Billy Horschel on the Golf Channel:

“What’s amazing about Billy is the belief that he’s got in himself. It knocks out the nerves and anxiousness because he believes in himself so much,” said Chris DiMarco, a former Gator and a mentor for Horschel. “He’s that good. Every time I play with him, I don’t know how he’s not winning every week. This is just the beginning.”

We were crossing our fingers that Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III would be back in time for this week’s Wells Fargo Championship. However, after a practice round last week with brother, Mark, and fellow Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson, Davis decided it was best to sit out the tournament this year. He’s still hoping to play next week though at THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

For those of you who will be at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow or tuning in elsewhere, Zach is in group No. 31, which tees off at 1:05 p.m. today (Thurs., May 2). (Follow the PGA TOUR Shot Tracker.) There’s been a lot of pre-tournament discussions about the condition of the greens at Quail Hollow. We understand that a number of the putting surfaces have patchy brown spots and some have shown speeds inconsistent from the remainder of the course. A number of the players, though, are saying they’re not concerned, and that once play gets underway, there will be other news coming from the tournament. If you’ve been to the course this week or of you plan to go to the tournament, let us know what you think –how does the course look to you?

And speaking of YOU, yesterday (Wed., May 1) marked the opening of registration for new volunteers for this year’s McGladrey Classic at Sea Island! Have you signed up yet? Remember, volunteer slots are being filled on a first come-first serve basis so if you want to support the tournament this year, sign up soon, otherwise you might be added to the waiting list.

And speaking of Sea Island, Demo Day for Charity  is THIS Sat., May 4! Learn more and reserve your spot today. We hope to see you there. It’s a great cause.
