Another one in the books – The 2012 McGladrey Classic!

It’s hard to believe that the third annual McGladrey Classic has come and gone, been just a few days since Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey became the 2012 McGladrey Classic champion. This was Gainey’s first PGA TOUR win and with a course record of 10 under par 60! McGladrey is proud to share this memory with him. Congratulations, Tommy, and welcome to the McGladrey family!

In case you were unable to follow us while we were at Sea Island, here is a recap of the week:

·         Monday nights Wiffle Ball Classic was a great success raising $15,000 for Altama Elementary’s Blessings in a Backpack Program. Check out the PGA TOUR’s video on this event (watch here)
·         Wednesday’s Youth Day was tons of fun while the kids played games, had their faces painted, and watched Ben Crane and Paul Stankowski hold a clinic. Following the clinic, McGladrey leaders teamed up with PGA TOUR professionals for a putting contest with Special Olympics athletes and children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia. Later that night, Gary Allan put on an amazing performance for thousands of fans.
·          Military Appreciation was held on Thurs., Oct. 18., to honor those who have served and those who are currently serving our country.
·         A very special guest stopped by the Dawg House on Thursday – UGA09 or RUSS!
·         The final tally of BIRDIES made during this year’s tournament was 1,478 for those who entered the ‘Birdies for Love’ contest. The winner will be announced soon!

On a sad note, McGladrey sends their condolences to the Steele family and friends. Last Friday, PGA TOUR caddy, Scott Steele, passed away suddenly. Black Ribbons were worn in honor and remembrance of Scott Steele during The McGladrey Classic.

Once again, we would like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who helped welcome the tens of thousands of golf fans to the 2012 McGladrey Classic!

We’re already looking forward to next year’s event which will take place in November! Go ahead and mark your calendars for Nov. 4 - 10, 2013 – we hope to see you then at Sea Island!

Final Round of The McGladrey Classic

Following an exciting day on the course, with Team McGladrey’s Davis Love III sharing the top of the leaderboard with Jim Furyk, manufacturing clients and potential clients attended a small reception in the Cloister Wine Room, hosted by McGladrey’s Karen Kurek, who leads the firm’s manufacturing and distribution business. After sharing insights from the recent McGladrey Manufacturing Monitor, attendees discussed the findings from the report and shared issues and challenges facing the industry.

Next, McGladrey leaders, clients and guests gathered at The Cloister’s Black Bank Terrace for a networking reception

Early this morning, McGladrey’s Bill Gorman discussed the firm’s international capabilities with a group of clients who have international operations and/or who plan to expand internationally.

When play started earlier today, a chilly but sunny morning greeted golf enthusiasts who were out on the course early for the final round of the third annual McGladrey Classic. Follow events on the Golf Channel to find out who will take home the trophy this afternoon!

Round 3 of The McGladrey Classic

Yesterday evening, McGladrey leaders hosted clients and potential clients at an evening reception at The Cloister’s Beach Club Tiki Bar. After a beautiful evening on the beach, it’s hard to believe that it’s already Round 3 of The McGladrey Classic.

Things started today at 9:40 a.m., ET from tee #1 and tee #10. Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson tees off at 10:40 a.m., Chris DiMarco at 10:50 a.m., and Davis Love III at noon.

A McGladrey employee contest brings two winners to Sea Island today. Employees Shirley Rennie from the firm’s Boston office and Sam Evalson from Seattle will be on-the-ground with us here at The McGladrey Classic to report back to their fellow teammates on their personal experiences at the tournament, as well as their interactions with McGladrey clients and potential clients.

Following today’s play, McGladrey leaders and guests will gather at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace for a networking reception before returning to the course tomorrow for the final round of the third annual McGladrey Classic.

Who do you think will be this year’s champion?

An Update From The McGladrey Classic

Round 2 of The McGladrey Classic is in full swing, and the sun is shining down today on McGladrey clients and guests, and loads of golf fans here at Sea Island.

Yesterday evening, the Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner and Mark Love, executive director of The McGladrey Classic, facilitated a question-and-answer session of a McGladrey-hosted event for private equity clients and potential clients to allow them time to “mix and mingle” while discussing issues relevant to their industry.

The private equity event was followed by a reception at the ballroom of The Cloister for all McGladrey clients and potential clients in attendance, as well as their guests.

After a full day on the course today, McGladrey guests will gather at the Sea Island Beach Club Tiki Bar this evening to enjoy time with one another, their McGladrey hosts and Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III.

Tomorrow’s weather forecast calls for more sun and temperatures in the mid-70s. Perfect weather for a little golf!

Check back for more updates from the course tomorrow.

The Latest from The McGladrey Classic

Yesterday’s RSM International Pro-Am was followed by one of our favorite aspects of The McGladrey Classic – Youth Day. Hundreds of children joined us for corn hole, face-painting and a clinic by last year’s tournament champion Ben Crane, who shared tips for living, including this advice: “If you want to do anything really good in life, you’ve got to love it.”

Following the clinic, McGladrey leaders teamed up with professional golfers for a putting contest with Special Olympics athletes and children from Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia. We also filmed a public service announcement, which will be airing on the Golf Channel this coming weekend, so keep an eye out for that.

After Youth Day activities, McGladrey clients and guests enjoyed a concert under the stars with Gary Allan – quite a treat!

And now, today, after a couple of days of slightly overcast weather, the sun is out in full force for Round 1 of The McGladrey Classic, which also happens to be Military Appreciation Day – a fitting tribute to our country’s finest!

Check back tomorrow for more from Sea Island…

The McGladrey Classic - Just Another Day in Paradise

Yesterday marked another beautiful day at Sea Island, with McGladrey employees Jenny Sulzer from the firm’s Orlando office and Scott Moran from Chicago visiting as on-the-ground reporters. You can find their on-camera accounts of their visits to Sea Island on the McGladrey YouTube channel (and here on our golf blog).

The day ended with a fun-filled Pro-Am pairings party at the home of Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and his wife Robin, where McGladrey guests enjoyed good old-fashioned Southern cuisine, while overlooking a beautiful marsh.

As is typically the case with The McGladrey Classic, Wednesday is one of the busiest days of the tournament, beginning with early morning tee-times for those playing in the Pro-Am. Later today, we’ll welcome athletes from Special Olympics and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia for a Putting Challenge, which is always one of our favorite activities of the week. Things will wrap up with a concert under the stars with Gary Allan.

Check back tomorrow for more from Sea Island, and keep up with tournament events at and by tuning in to the Golf Channel.

Welcoming Guests to The McGladrey Classic

Today marks another beautiful day here at The McGladrey Classic on Sea Island.

To encourage employee engagement and reward employees, McGladrey sponsored an all-employee contest, which resulted in one winner from each of the firm’s regions winning an opportunity to serve as on-the-ground reporters to give their fellow teammates a first-hand account of activities taking place during the Classic. One of the first winners, Scott Moran along with his guest, arrived at Sea Island yesterday afternoon, and attended a welcome reception for clients and potential clients at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace.

Team McGladrey Zach Johnson, McGladrey LLP Managing Partner and CEO Joe Adams, and Chief Marketing Officer Bob Gerardi were featured speakers welcoming guests to Sea Island and to The McGladrey Classic.

Before the evening's festivities, however, was the inaugural PGA TOUR Wives Wiffle Ball Classic where TOUR players and their wives teamed up with local children for a "boys against the girls" game of good, clean fun. While the boys took home the trophy, the real winner was Altama Elementary's Blessings in a Backpack Program, which took home the $15,000 raised by the event!

After golf, a little pool-side relaxation and tours of the facilities, Scott will report back to McGladrey employees on his experiences on the island.

We’ll continue to provide daily updates here on our golf blog, as well. So check back regularly throughout the week for new information. You can also follow tournament events at or by watching the Golf Channel this coming weekend.

Teeing it up for The McGladrey Classic

A small contingent of McGladrey staff arrived on Sea Island yesterday and while it was a beautiful sun-shiny day, most of our time was spent indoors preparing welcome kits for our guests who will be arriving in three separate “waves” over the coming days.

We did take time for dinner at local restaurant favorite Crab Daddy’s last night though (YUM!), so now we’re fortified for today’s activities, which include practice round on the Seaside Course of Sea Island Golf Club.

This afternoon, PGA TOUR wives are sponsoring a Wiffle Ball tournament, with proceeds going to charity.

We’ll wrap up the evening with a welcome reception for clients and guests at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace.

Check back tomorrow for our next update, and keep up with the “latest and the greatest” from The McGladrey Classic at

Just a few more days...

This can’t be right, the 2012 McGladrey Classic is only THREE days away? It’s crazy how fast time passes when you are having fun planning this tournament. The staff is packing up their bags and getting ready to head down to beautiful Sea Island for what will be a very exciting week.

In the meantime, the Open starts up today in San Martin, CA. McGladrey wants to wish good luck to Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco as they compete in this tournament.

Last Thurs., Oct. 4, we selected two of our four exemptions for The McGladrey Classic: John Daly and Boo Weekley. View the complete 2012 Player Field here. It is going to be a great tournament to watch so if you are unable to attend in person, be sure to watch it on The Golf Channel.

For those of you attending the Dawg House during the tournament, rumor has it that a very special VIP guest will be joining the fun on Thursday, Oct. 18. It’s not too late to purchase your tickets!

This is the final week to test your hand and ‘Guess the Birdies’. Simply make a $10 donation to the charity of your choice and guess how many birdies will be made during next week’s official tournament rounds, and you might be the lucky winner of a BRAND NEW 2012 Buick Verano!

Before heading down to Sea Island for The McGladrey Classic, be sure to check out the schedule of events to decide what you don't want to miss while you're there. And check back daily next week as we post the latest updates of what’s going on at The McGladrey Classic! You can also follow us on our McGladrey Classic Facebook page and on Twitter, @McGladreyClssc for real-time updates from Sea Island. Hope to see you there!

We’ve just entered The McGladrey Classic’s favorite month!

It’s been a whirlwind of a week for Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III. Both of them left their hearts on the course at the Ryder Cup, and while we were hoping that Team USA would bring home the trophy, we’d like to congratulate Team Europe for their win.

With the 2012 McGladrey Classic only 10 days away, Zach and Davis are gearing up to welcome golf fans to their beautiful home of Sea Island. Davis serves as tournament chairman and host. He and Zach will be joined by fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco and other professional golfers for the third annual McGladrey Classic (Oct. 15 – 21). Earlier this week, Davis spoke with Golfer’s Guide about the Heritage at Hilton Head Island and The McGladrey Classic. It’s a great article that highlights two stellar Southern courses. Check it out here.

On Mon., Oct. 1, we had a special guest take over our social media pages – Jonathan Byrd! He answered many questions that were submitted by fans. If you missed it, it’s not too late, you can check out his responses on The McGladrey Classic Facebook page.

The McGladrey Classic isn’t the only golf event we like to talk about on this blog! On Sept. 25, our Rockford, IL office held its second annual Golf Skills Experience event. Much like The McGladrey Classic teams up with Special Olympics, the Golf Skills Experience is also linked to Special Olympics, with proceeds benefitting the nonprofit’s Illinois chapter. The Experience allows Special Olympic athletes to practice the skills necessary to compete in the Special Olympics’ golf competition. McGladrey takes pride in giving back to our communities so we are glad to see the great turnout for the event, which will continue to be an annual event.

Again, The McGladrey Classic is only 10 short days away! If you haven’t already done so, mark your calendars NOW with all the events that will be taking place throughout the tournament so that you won’t miss anything. You can find the 2012 Schedule of Events and purchase tickets on the McGladrey Classic website.

Check back in next week as we provide our last blog post before heading down to Sea Island! And be sure to check in daily during tournament week for updates on all the events!
