45 days and counting...

Things are really starting to gear up here now that the 2012 McGladrey Classic is only 45 days away! We are excited to announce another great musical group who will join us at the McGladrey Classic: Backbeat Boulevard. Backbeat Boulevard will perform on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. in the Miller64 Village, following the end of play that day.

Feeling lucky? Get a chance to win a 2012 Buick Verano by entering the Guess the Birdies contest! All you need to do to win is make minimum birdie pledge of $0.01 or more, fill out the pledge form and guess the exact number of birdies that will accumulate during the 2012 McGladrey Classic. Find out more about the contest here.

Think you know McGladrey? Put your knowledge to the test! Every Monday, check out The McGladrey Classic Facebook page for our “McGladrey Mondays” question and see if you are the first to answer correctly. You could win a prize!

We also want to wish good luck to Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain, Davis Love III, as he has some tough decisions ahead of him on Sept. 4, when he makes his four captain’s picks. These four players will join the eight who qualified by virtue of points earned for the 2012 Ryder Cup team. We’ll share the results here next week.

Those of us here with McGladrey hope you have a safe and wonderful Labor Day weekend. Check back next week as we share more about the 2012 McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey.

Happy Birthday, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco!

It’s Thursday, so it’s time for our weekly golf blog update, but this Thursday is extra special because it’s also Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco’s birthday! We won’t be the one to spill the beans about his age but, if you’d like to send birthday wishes his way, feel free to post them here, and we’ll pass them along. Happy Birthday, Chris!

We know that Chris is a big Gator fan, but if your loyalties lie north of the Florida border, you might be interested in joining fellow UGA alumni and fans inside the Dawg House while you cheer for your favorite PGA TOUR players during the 2012 McGladrey Classic. Learn more here.

And if you’re going to join us in Sea Island this October (less than two months from now), you might want to make sure you’re there Wed., Oct. 17 for a concert with Gary Allan – live under the oaks. You can get your advance concert tickets now.

In closing, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank McGladrey’s senior sports marketing director Ricki Lasky for all of her leadership over the past few years. She was the “brains” behind The McGladrey Classic. Ricki has accepted a once-in-a-lifetime position with the LPGA. We’ll miss you, Ricki, and wish you the best as you take on your next adventure! See you out on the course…

Team McGladrey for Team USA

We first want to send a big congratulations to Rory McIlroy on his impressive eight-stroke win this past weekend at the PGA Championship. McIlroy, 23-years old, is now the second youngest player to win two majors.

With the finish of the PGA Championship, the eight automatic spots have now been filled for the 2012 Ryder Cup team. Remaining in sixth place in the Team USA Standings, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson has earned his spot on the Ryder Cup team, alongside fellow Team McGladrey Member and 2012 Ryder Cup Captain, Davis Love III.

Can you believe we are just shy of two months until The McGladrey Classic? It takes place starting Oct. 15 in beautiful Sea Island, GA. Listen to what Davis has to say about the Golden Isles. Makes you want to go there, doesn’t it?

If you’d like to help out this year, we are looking for 250 volunteers. To be a part of the excitement, fill out a volunteer application.

Check in next week for more updates on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic.

Giving Back Through Golf

Did you know that the PGA TOUR focuses on donating a majority of its funds to the communities in which Tournaments are held? In 2012, more than 3,000 different charitable organizations will benefit from the TOUR’s goal of giving back. At McGladrey, we are proud to be the official sponsor of The McGladrey Classic, an official PGA TOUR Fall Series event. The 2011 McGladrey Classic raised $300,000 for Special Olympics and other charitable organizations in Southeast Georgia – that was a 100 percent increase over the $150,000 raised during the inaugural year of the event. We’re looking forward to giving back even more to the community through this year’s event in October. We’d love for you to join us at Sea Island to help with those efforts! www.mcgladreyclassic.com

Speaking of communities, the First Tee National School Program has officially launched in the Golden Isles! Tues., Aug. 7 marked training for all 10 elementary school coaches and teachers. The program begins this fall in elementary schools! Follow along with their progress – NEW First Tee Program.

In wrapping up this week, we want to wish Team McGladrey members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson good luck at the last major of the year, the PGA Championship. Following the conclusion of this week’s tournament, the Ryder Cup team will be one step closer to being formed and the assistant captains will be one step closer to being selected. Ryder Cup Captain, Davis Love III will know eight of his 12 team members once the PGA Championship ends this week. (Team USA standings as of Aug. 5 show that Zach Johnson is currently in sixth place.) We’re looking forward to watching the Ryder Cup, starting Sept. 28 in Medinah, IL. Will you be watching?

We’ll post another update next week, and hope you’ll check back for that.

Team McGladrey In the News

Team McGladrey has been busy this week, and they’ve been getting some press.

The News-Sentinel ran a neat story about Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and his son Dru who were at the Junior PGA Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club. You can read it here.

The Gazette in Cedar Rapids included a great article about Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson’s Foundation Classic at Elmcrest Country Club. It’s a nice story about the friendship between he and fellow PGA TOUR Professional Stewart Cink, and their shared passion for giving back to the community through the game of golf. Check it out.

We’re looking forward to seeing Davis and Zach, as well as Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco at The McGladrey Classic in October. Gates open to the general public at 7 a.m. on Oct. 17, and the trophy will be presented to the 2013 champion following the final round on Sun., Oct. 21. For the complete schedule of events and to get YOUR tickets, visit The McGladrey Classic website. And check back here next week for more updates.
