Go, USA!

Big news this week: Team McGladrey Member and 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III announced that Fred Couples and Mark Hulbert will be two of his assistant captains during this year’s match-play tussle in September at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill. The trio will name the two remaining assistant picks within the next couple of months.

There was a great article recently in the Brunswick News tying The McGladrey Classic to this year’s U.S. Open. If you missed it, you can check it out here.

After reading that, you’re probably REALLY looking forward to going to The Classic this year (Oct. 15 – 21). Go ahead…get your tickets today.

We hope to see you at Sea Island! In the meantime, remember that Team McGladrey members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson are having a little friendly competition in the form of a Twitter Match-Up, which has them squaring off to see who can gain the most new followers. Who do you want to win? If you’re not currently following them on Twitter, do it before July 1 for a chance to win a signed TOUR staff bag from the winning golfer. (Davis’ Twitter handle is @love3d; Zach’s is @ZachJohnsonPGA.)

We’ll be taking a break from this blog next week in celebration of Independence Day. We hope you’ll check back July 12, though, for more news about Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic!

Happy (Early) Fourth!

Team McGladrey on Twitter, Facebook, Blogs and…the Course

Things are shaping up nicely for the third annual McGladrey Classic to be held at beautiful Sea Island this Oct. 15 – 21. In fact, we had a small contingent there this week for planning meetings (and understand they had some good ol’ Southern Soul BBQ while they were there). Here’s a quick peek at the schedule:

- Oct. 15 – Practice rounds for pros
- Oct. 16 – Practice rounds for pros, Pro-Am pairings party, Meet the pros event
- Oct. 17 – Youth Day, Official Pro-Am, Gary Allan concert
- Oct. 18 – Military Appreciation Day, Round 1
- Oct. 19 – Round 2
- Oct. 20 – Round 3, wear your college colors
- Oct. 21 – Final round, trophy presentation on 18th green

Earlier this week, Davis took over the PGA TOUR’s Facebook page to answer fans’ questions. He got so many, he couldn’t answer them all! Davis tweeted on Twitter that he had a lot of fun with the Q&A, and that he might be doing something similar on Twitter soon. Check out the Q&As from the TOUR’s Facebook page.

Davis also updated his Captain’s Blog on The McGladrey Classic website this week. He had a lot to say about his health, his game, how others are playing. He also said that they’re getting close to announcing two assistant captains. Any guesses on who they might be? Find out more on the blog.

Zach and fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco are both playing in the Traveler’s Championship in Connecticut this week. Needless to say, we’ll be pulling for them over the weekend. Who do you think will win?

We hope you’ll check back next week for our next update.

A Team McGladrey Match-up and More...

Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson are having a little friendly competition in the form of a Twitter Match-Up, which has them squaring off to see who can gain the most new followers between Mon., June 18 and Sun., July 1. Who do you want to win? If you’re not currently following them on Twitter, do it between June 18 and July 1 for a chance to win a signed TOUR staff bag from the winning golfer. Davis’ Twitter handle is @love3d; Zach’s is @ZachJohnsonPGA. Be sure to follow your favorite for your chance to win! Speaking of winning, Davis teed off his 23rd U.S. Open at Olympic Club in San Francisco this week. Zach is playing as well, along with many other golfing greats including Ernie Els, Rickie Fowler, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson and, of course, Tiger. It’s times like these that we wish we lived on the West Coast, but…we’ll be watching both on television and online instead, and maybe even playing the virtual Open for a chance to win tickets to next year’s tournament. Go, Davis and Zach! And as if all that isn’t enough, the Davis Love Foundation is hosting a Demo Day Fore Charity event at Sea Island on Thurs., July 19, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Participants will be able to practice like a pro at the Sea Island Learning Center, test equipment from inside the ropes, talk with professional club fitters from Sea Island about what’s right for them and enter to win prizes from The McGladrey Classic. A sampling of food and beverages will be provided. Interested? You can learn more here. We’re now just four short months away from the third McGladrey Classic, scheduled for Oct. 15-21 at Sea Island. Hundreds of volunteers have already signed up to help make the event a success, but there’s room for more. If you want to volunteer for the 2012 McGladrey Classic, sign up today. Or if you prefer to just watch, get your tickets today. We’ll post another update next week – hope you’ll check back for the “latest and the greatest” on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic – it’ll be here before we know it!

Busy Week for Team McGladrey

Lots of activity with Team McGladrey this week. We learned that Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III will tee off at his 23rd U.S. Open at Olympic Club June 14 – 17, after making the grade at a qualifier. TPC Southwind ‘s power rankings for this week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic have Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson ranked No. 1, saying that he is “arguably the hottest golfer in the field of 156.” Go, Davis and Zach! Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco took over the PGA TOUR’s Facebook page earlier this week for a digital press conference, where he answered fan’s questions. Our favorite was the question about putt-putt golf. :) Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is playing in the Wegman’s LPGA Championship in New York this week. While the weather is warming up now, earlier in the week, Natalie actually posted a twitpic of hail on the course! We can’t end this week’s update without giving a big “atta boy” to McGladrey Classic volunteer Andy Jenkins, who was recently recognized in the tournament’s “Volunteer Spotlight” for his support of The McGladrey Classic. Andy was a monster board volunteer last year, and was acknowledged by his volunteer chairman for his outstanding volunteerism during the tournament. There’s something that a lot of people don’t know about Andy, though. Read the Spotlight to find out what it is. If YOU want to volunteer for the 2012 McGladrey Classic, it’s not too late. You can sign up here. Check back next week for more on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic!
