Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson Wins the Crowne!

All of us here at McGladrey were THRILLED this past weekend when Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson won the Crowne Plaza Invitational and took home the coveted plaid jacket! It was a great way to top off a holiday weekend, and to talk about when we returned to the office on Tuesday. Even before the big win, though, Zach and his caddie Damon Green were featured in a nice article in Golf Digest. It’s not your typical sports article. This one focuses on the bond between the two, and highlights their mutual respect for Damon’s father, who passed away just a few days before the tournament. It’s definitely worth the read. (Hint: You might want to have a few tissues handy.) Speaking of dads, if you’re lucky enough to still have yours around, why don’t you “show him some love” for Father’s Day. For just $99, you can get a Seaside Tournament package for two for The McGladrey Classic (Oct. 15-21). If you order by June 12, you’ll receive free delivery in time for Father’s Day. And now, we’re bringing it back around to Zach…The PGA TOUR and AVIS are sponsoring a “Player of the Month” contest and, if you’re a golf fan, you can now vote for the winner for the month of May. In addition to our very own Zach Johnson, others in the running are Jason Dufner, Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar. The winner will receive $50,000 for the charity of his choice. Cast your vote today to help those in need! Check back next week for more updates…

Giving Back Through the Game of Golf

Earlier this week, a small number of McGladrey leaders and a few key clients/potential clients enjoyed meeting and networking during an Ultimate Golf Experience at Medinah Country Club (where the 2012 Ryder Cup will be played), just outside of Chicago. A special treat: Team McGladrey Member (and 2012 Ryder Cup Captain) was on hand to meet everyone, and even participated in a video-taping session with McGladrey Managing Partner and CEO Joe Adams for the first in a series of “McGladrey On Course” videos, which we’ll make available via YouTube over the coming weeks and months leading up to the third annual McGladrey Classic this October. Keep an eye out for those! In the meantime, we’re including a few of photos from the event here on our blog. Of course, giving back to the community is a big part of the game of golf. In addition to the funds raised for Special Olympics earlier this week at Medinah, The McGladrey Classic recently announced beneficiaries for the new “Birdies Fore Love” program. Birdies Fore Love, presented by Nalley Buick-GMC, provides a unique opportunity to raise funds for family programs. Participants guess how many birdies will be made during the four official competitive rounds of The McGladrey Classic. When donors submit their guesses, they can pledge a monetary amount per birdie scored or can plan a one-time $10 minimum donation. Each pledge will be given to the participating charity of the donor’s choice. The 2012 Birdies Fore Love charities represent a range of family, community and national programs that the Davis Love Foundation is dedicated to serve, including The American Red Cross, Blessings in a Backpack, The Boys & Girls Clubs, Hospice of the Golden Isles, Safe Harbor Children’s Center, Special Olympics and many others. For a complete list, visit The McGladrey Classic website. Along with the opportunity to support charitable organizations, donors will also receive a chance to win a grand prize. The person who guesses the exact number of birdies scored during the competitive rounds will receive a 2012 Buick Verano! If you’re interested in giving back through volunteerism, you might want to consider volunteering for during The McGladrey Classic. You can sign up on The McGladrey Classic website
. In closing, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank the men and women who have served and/or are serving in American military services. They give so much to protect our country and our loved ones. We’ll recognize them through special activities during Military Appreciation Day (Thurs., Oct. 18) during The McGladrey Classic but, in light of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, wanted to give them a “shout out” here today, as well. Check back next week for another update…

Congratulations And More...

Congratulations to Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson who tied for second place at THE PLAYER’S Championship last week! But there’s even more exciting news for Zach – he, his wife Kim and sons Will and Wyatt recently learned that their new addition – expected this fall – is…a GIRL! Congratulations to the Johnson family – we look forward to Baby Johnson’s arrival!

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is playing this week (May 17-20) in the Sybase Match Play Championship at Hamilton Farms in New Jersey. She’s encouraging fans who are in the area to come out to join her and her fellow LPGA Tour players for the event. Something to consider if you’re in the area…

Next week, McGladrey Managing Partner and CEO Joe Adams will be doing some video-taping with Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III at Medinah Country Club for the first installment of our “McGladrey On Course” videos. We’ll be posting those to YouTube as they’re completed over the coming weeks and months. So if you haven’t done it already, you might want to subscribe to the McGladrey YouTube channel.

And if you’re in the market for a new car, you might be interested in The McGladrey Classic’s “Guess the Birdies, Win a Car” contest. All participants who make a minimum birdies pledge of $.01 or a one-time donation of $10 or more are eligible to win by simply filling out a pledge form and guessing the total number of birdies that will take place during the 2012 McGladrey Classic. Need a new set of wheels? Enter for your chance to win.

Speaking of The Classic…we’re already halfway there! If you’re interested in being a part of the fun in October, you can sign up to volunteer or buy your tickets now.

We hope you’ll check back next week for more on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic.

A McGladrey Update from TPC Sawgrass

We just can’t help ourselves. We have to start this week’s update by letting you know that McGladrey LLP’s very own Tony Ceci, from McGladrey’s Stamford, CT office, had a thrill of a lifetime when he caddied for Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco during the PLAYER’S Championship Pro-Am at TPC Sawgrass. Tony won the opportunity by placing the highest bid during a charitable auction. Nice, huh? (Here’s a cool shot of Chris on the 14th fairway, by the way.) Which PGA Tour professional would you like to caddie for if you had the chance? Fellow Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III are playing in the PLAYER’S Championship, as well, along with Heath Slocum, winner of the 2010 McGladrey Classic and 2011 winner Ben Crane. Sounds like “the McGladrey connection” to us! We’ll be pulling for “our boys!” Before things kicked off at Sawgrass, a few key leaders from McGladrey met with local leaders in Jacksonville, FL to celebrate being “Halfway to The Classic.” A highlight of this red-carpet event included a panel discussion featuring Chris and Davis. It’s hard to believe we’ll be heading to Sea Island for our third annual tournament (Oct. 15-21) in just a little more than five months. We can hardly wait! And speaking of The McGladrey Classic, the Davis Love Foundation announced recently that Southeast Georgia Health System will be the official health care partner of the Foundation and the 2012 McGladrey. SGHS was an important partner for The Classic last year, and we look forward to continuing that partnership in 2012, as they not only provide their medical expertise, but also serve as the presenting sponsor of the Gary Allan Concert and McGladrey Classic Youth Day. If you want to join in the fun of this year’s event, you can purchase tickets and/or sign up to volunteer. We hope to see you at Sea Island!

Halfway to Giving Back to the Community!

It’s hard to believe but it’s already May, which means we’re about half-way to the 2012 McGladrey Classic (Oct. 15-21 at beautiful Sea Island)! To celebrate, a few key leaders from McGladrey will gather with local business leaders in Jacksonville, Florida next week (Tues., May 8) for a “Halfway to the Classic” evening event. One of the highlights will be a panel discussion featuring Team McGladrey members Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco, who will answer questions about The McGladrey Classic and the game of golf in front of about 100 of Jacksonville’s finest. We’re hoping to snag a few pictures from our on-the-ground “reporter” to share with you via Twitter and/or this blog next week, so stay tuned... While we’re really looking forward to the tournament and all of the related activities, we’re most excited about the opportunity The McGladrey Classic provides for us and others to give back to the community, which is a key component of the game of golf – and of the way that McGladrey does business. That’s one of the major reasons golf is such a good “fit” for McGladrey. Just last week, The McGladrey Classic announced a new program to raise dollars for charities – Birdies Fore Love. Learn more here. Giving back is also something that’s extremely important to Team McGladrey which includes not only Davis and Chris, but PGA Tour Professional Zach Johnson and LPGA Tour Professional Natalie Gulbis. In fact, Natalie recently posted a video about what she does when she isn’t touring and, you guessed it, it has to do with community service. View the video here. If you share our passion for giving back to the community, you might want to consider volunteering for the 2012 McGladrey Classic. More than 665 have already signed up to help make this year’s event a success, but we still need more, and would love to see YOU at Sea Island! You can sign up online. And if you need a little inspiration, just check out this Q&A with 2011 volunteer Mark Sertick – pretty cool.
