Winding down and looking to the future

This past weekend was one Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III will always remember as he teamed up with his son Dru for the PNC Father-Son Challenge and won! The icing on the cake was when Davis watched Dru make the winning putt. Congratulations to the Love pairing!

As we mentioned in last week’s post, Tom Watson was named the 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup team captain. While at the PNC Father-Son Challenge, Davis talked about how excited he is by this selection and how he is now more motivated than ever to make the 2014 team. Davis also commented on the Golf Channel, saying, “The more I think about it, the more excited I get. It makes me want to make the team because I had so much fun with him in ’93. I would love to do it again.”
Speaking of the Golf Channel, they recently posted their Top 10 picks for 2012 in numerous categories. Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson came in at No. 9  in Best Shots for his second hole of sudden death shot at the John Deere Classic. Johnson hit a 6-iron, from 193 yards in a fairway bunker, inside a foot from the hole – talk about a shot that had everyone on the edge of their chairs!
With the year wrapping up, I know all you golf fans are now wondering how you’ll get your “golf-fix. Not to worry! The PGA TOUR has recently released their schedule for the first six events of the 2013-2014 season. Due to the new structure of their schedule, you might have noticed that The McGladrey Classic is now in November (4-10, 2013) since we are now part of the FedEx Cup season. To view the rest of the PGA TOUR 2013 schedule, click here. Tournaments start up first thing in the New Year!

Switching back to The McGladrey Classic, the total proceeds came in from the 2012 tournament. An astonishing $400,000 was raised for Special Olympics, Southeast Georgia Boys and Girls Clubs and other charitable organizations. This was a 33% increase from the previous year! So far, The McGladrey Classic has raised more than $850,000 since the inception in 2010.  We are so proud and honored by the humbling contributions The McGladrey Classic has received for charitable organizations these past three years. We are looking forward to the future and how much we can continue to give back.
"Like the game of golf, McGladrey has a strong commitment to giving back to those in need," said PGA TOUR Professional and Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III, whose foundation hosts The McGladrey Classic. "It's a pleasure to partner with an organization whose values are so closely aligned with those of the game and of the Davis Love Foundation."
We hope all of our readers are enjoying this holiday season, and that you’ll check back here January 3, 2013 when we resume these updates after enjoying a bit of time with family and friends ourselves.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Announcements and Recaps

Earlier today, Tom Watson was named the 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup team captain. Watson will be the oldest captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team has had. It will be interesting to see the mix of old and new styles in Scotland in 2014. Those of us here at McGladrey think Watson is a great choice to succeed Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III. Congratulations from McGladrey!

Speaking of Davis, he and Brandt Snedeker tied for fourth at the Franklin Templeton Shootout this past weekend. The pair started off sharp but as the weekend progressed, unfortunately, they lost some of their early momentum. From the Franklin Templeton Shootout recap, "We put the ball in the fairway all day, but never really got close into the greens," Davis said. "We were 15 to 30 feet all day today, and we weren't as sharp this weekend as we were Friday." Still…we’re proud of Davis and Brandt for their strong finish. Congrats, guys!

This weekend, Davis and his son Dru will be playing in the PNC Father/Son Challenge. Is there a future PGA TOUR player in the making? Tune in and watch on NBC.

Before closing this week, we’d like to remind our readers who live near Sea Island and those who might be visiting, that tomorrow (Dec. 14) is the final day for our Tournament Merchandise sale. Be sure to check out the Corn Barn at Sea Island Golf Club to see what’s left – you just might find the perfect gift for that special someone.

We hope you’ll stop back by next week to get the latest updates on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey.

Congratulations Team McGladrey Member, Davis Love III

What a week it has been for Team McGladrey member and Tournament host, Davis Love III, who won the U.S. Golf Association’s Bob Jones Award on Wednesday. The Bob Jones award is considered the USGA’s highest honor. The recipient demonstrates the spirit, personal character and respect for the game exhibited by Jones. Davis will receive his award in February. We couldn’t think of a better person to win the award this year! Congratulations, Davis, from your friends at McGladrey!

Speaking of Davis, be sure to watch him while he plays in the Franklin Templeton Shootout, Dec. 7-9. You can catch this tournament on the Golf Channel or NBC. Davis  is paired up with Brandt Snedeker. (Davis won the 1992 Shootout with Tom Kite). Snedeker was one of Davis’ Captain picks for the 2012 Ryder Cup. These two will make one solid team! Check out the pairings and let us know your predictions on who will win!

The completion of the Franklin Templeton Shootout will mark the last PGA TOUR event for 2012, and it’s been quite a year for Team McGladrey. In addition to Davis serving as the U.S. Ryder Cup captain and winning the Bob Jones award, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson won the John Deere Classic and the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial  and, even more exciting than that, Zach and his family welcomed their new addition, Abby Jane! And Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco hosted another successful charity tournament for the DiMarco Tee Up For Life celebrity golf tournament. This was the 12th year of the event, which has raised more than $4 million for charity since its inception!

With 2012 coming to an end, that means the holidays are quickly approaching! If you live near St. Simons Island and are still looking for the perfect gift for a friend or family member who loves golf (or if you just want to treat yourself!), be sure to visit our Holiday Merchandise sale. The sale is going on in The Corn Barn at Sea Island Golf Club. Sales started yesterday and runs through Dec. 14. *Closed on Saturday and Sunday

We’ll be back with another update next week. We hope you’ll check back then for the latest news on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey!

Continuing the holiday cheer

Returning from a great Thanksgiving break, we hope everyone enjoyed time with friends and family, and we appreciate you joining us here again this week for another update on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic.

Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey, 2012 McGladrey Classic Champion, finished up November with another great win – this one at the Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational last week. Congratulations, Tommy, from your friends at McGladrey!

If you are already missing The McGladrey Classic like we are, you can sign up for The McGladrey Classic newsletter to get regular updates throughout the year. This past Tuesday, the November newsletter was released. It covers upcoming events for the holidays, recaps and photos from the 2012 McGladrey Classic and more! It’s a combination of a brief stroll down memory lane and a peek at what’s coming – definitely worth a read.

And speaking of what’s coming, with Christmas just around the corner, we’re sure lots of our readers are joining the shopping frenzy for decorations and gifts, and thinking about how to best give back this holiday season to those in need. The Davis Love Foundation is thinking about those in need, as well, and you can help in one of two ways!  For those who live around St. Simons Island, visit Winter Wonderland and pick up a Christmas tree at the pavilion at Taylor House Interiors. If you have friends or family members who are golf lovers, you might want to consider a special edition Davis Love Foundation (DLF) golf gap this holiday season. (Or you might even want to snag one for yourself – a little gift from you to you!) For every $50 donation you make to DLF, you’ll receive this free hat.  What a great way to give back to those charities in need, while capping it off (pun intended) with a unique gift!
We’ll be back with another update next week. We hope you’ll check back then for the latest news on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey!

Thank You!

It’s the time of year when people look back and think of what they are most thankful for. At McGladrey we have so much to be thankful for, here are just a few that stand out:

·    More than 2,500 of our employees recently gave back to their local communities by participating in volunteer activities for charitable organizations through the firms third  nationwide Volunteer Day.
·    Contributions made to charity through The McGladrey Classic at beautiful Sea Island (we are still waiting on the final amount)
·    Our great partnership with Team McGladrey members: PGA TOUR professionals, Davis Love III, Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco
·    The ongoing relationship with our clients and the hard work and dedication of our employees who contribute to their success.

Earlier this week, Team McGladrey member Davis Love III participated in the Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge. It was a very successful event raising $3,442,300 for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption!

Leave a comment and share what you are thankful for!

We’ll be taking a break to spend time with family and friends next week, but will post our next update on November 29. We hope you’ll check back with us then! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and be sure to gobble till you wobble!

Updates on Team McGladrey

We’d like to begin this week’s update by sending a HUGE congratulations to proud new parents Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson and his wife Kim on the birth of their beautiful baby daughter Abby Jane, who was born on Thurs., Nov. 1. We hope to see Abby Jane crawling or maybe even toddling around at Sea Island during next year’s McGladrey Classic!

We’d also like to wish Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco the best of luck this weekend as they play in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital’s Classic which starts today at Walt Disney World!

Sadly, on Monday, the game of golf suffered a loss with the passing of Jim Flick, beloved coach, mentor and friend to many PGA TOUR players and fans. Flick was a coach to Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III, who had some kind things to say in the PGA’s “Remembering One of the Best” article. Take a moment to read the story – it’ll touch your heart. The McGladrey family sends their condolences to the Flick family.

Be sure to check back in next week as we give more updates on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey!

Thank You From Sea Island! - By Davis Love III

A Guest post from Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III

It’s hard to believe but, the third annual McGladrey Classic has come and gone, with Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey taking home the trophy with a course record 10 under par 60. It was my pleasure to present the trophy to Tommy on the 18th green, and to participate in the champagne toast, along with McGladrey leaders and others. Congratulations, Tommy – and welcome to the McGladrey family!

My wife Robin and fellow Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson enjoyed welcoming the tens of thousands of golf fans who visited our home of Sea Island for the tournament and related activities, and we’d like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who helped make The McGladrey Classic a resounding success for the third straight year!

As is the case each year, one of the most rewarding aspects of The McGladrey Classic is the opportunity it provides to give back to the community. In addition to the funds raised through the tournament for Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia and other charitable organizations, The McGladrey Classic includes a Youth Day, during which McGladrey leaders and PGA TOUR professionals team up with Special Olympics athletes and representatives from Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia for a putting contest. Before, during and after this year’s contest, McGladrey filmed a public service announcement, which you can watch here.

Many of the tournament and other activities throughout the week were captured on film. If you haven’t had a chance to view those daily updates, you can do that right here on the McGladrey golf blog. Just scroll down a bit, and click on the videos at your convenience. For those who were with us at Sea Island, they’ll bring back some fond memories, and for those of you who weren’t able to join us, you’ll see some great footage from the event, that’ll make you want to join us next year (Nov. 4 – 10).

Last but not least, I'd like to send a big CONGRATULATIONS to Marc Neu, winner of The McGladrey Classic Birdies for Love car! We just made the announcement earlier today, and presented Marc with his new set of keys.

’Hope to see you at the fourth annual McGladrey Classic!

Another one in the books – The 2012 McGladrey Classic!

It’s hard to believe that the third annual McGladrey Classic has come and gone, been just a few days since Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey became the 2012 McGladrey Classic champion. This was Gainey’s first PGA TOUR win and with a course record of 10 under par 60! McGladrey is proud to share this memory with him. Congratulations, Tommy, and welcome to the McGladrey family!

In case you were unable to follow us while we were at Sea Island, here is a recap of the week:

·         Monday nights Wiffle Ball Classic was a great success raising $15,000 for Altama Elementary’s Blessings in a Backpack Program. Check out the PGA TOUR’s video on this event (watch here)
·         Wednesday’s Youth Day was tons of fun while the kids played games, had their faces painted, and watched Ben Crane and Paul Stankowski hold a clinic. Following the clinic, McGladrey leaders teamed up with PGA TOUR professionals for a putting contest with Special Olympics athletes and children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia. Later that night, Gary Allan put on an amazing performance for thousands of fans.
·          Military Appreciation was held on Thurs., Oct. 18., to honor those who have served and those who are currently serving our country.
·         A very special guest stopped by the Dawg House on Thursday – UGA09 or RUSS!
·         The final tally of BIRDIES made during this year’s tournament was 1,478 for those who entered the ‘Birdies for Love’ contest. The winner will be announced soon!

On a sad note, McGladrey sends their condolences to the Steele family and friends. Last Friday, PGA TOUR caddy, Scott Steele, passed away suddenly. Black Ribbons were worn in honor and remembrance of Scott Steele during The McGladrey Classic.

Once again, we would like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who helped welcome the tens of thousands of golf fans to the 2012 McGladrey Classic!

We’re already looking forward to next year’s event which will take place in November! Go ahead and mark your calendars for Nov. 4 - 10, 2013 – we hope to see you then at Sea Island!

Final Round of The McGladrey Classic

Following an exciting day on the course, with Team McGladrey’s Davis Love III sharing the top of the leaderboard with Jim Furyk, manufacturing clients and potential clients attended a small reception in the Cloister Wine Room, hosted by McGladrey’s Karen Kurek, who leads the firm’s manufacturing and distribution business. After sharing insights from the recent McGladrey Manufacturing Monitor, attendees discussed the findings from the report and shared issues and challenges facing the industry.

Next, McGladrey leaders, clients and guests gathered at The Cloister’s Black Bank Terrace for a networking reception

Early this morning, McGladrey’s Bill Gorman discussed the firm’s international capabilities with a group of clients who have international operations and/or who plan to expand internationally.

When play started earlier today, a chilly but sunny morning greeted golf enthusiasts who were out on the course early for the final round of the third annual McGladrey Classic. Follow events on the Golf Channel to find out who will take home the trophy this afternoon!

Round 3 of The McGladrey Classic

Yesterday evening, McGladrey leaders hosted clients and potential clients at an evening reception at The Cloister’s Beach Club Tiki Bar. After a beautiful evening on the beach, it’s hard to believe that it’s already Round 3 of The McGladrey Classic.

Things started today at 9:40 a.m., ET from tee #1 and tee #10. Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson tees off at 10:40 a.m., Chris DiMarco at 10:50 a.m., and Davis Love III at noon.

A McGladrey employee contest brings two winners to Sea Island today. Employees Shirley Rennie from the firm’s Boston office and Sam Evalson from Seattle will be on-the-ground with us here at The McGladrey Classic to report back to their fellow teammates on their personal experiences at the tournament, as well as their interactions with McGladrey clients and potential clients.

Following today’s play, McGladrey leaders and guests will gather at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace for a networking reception before returning to the course tomorrow for the final round of the third annual McGladrey Classic.

Who do you think will be this year’s champion?

Watch the Golf Channel this weekend to find out.

An Update From The McGladrey Classic

Round 2 of The McGladrey Classic is in full swing, and the sun is shining down today on McGladrey clients and guests, and loads of golf fans here at Sea Island.

Yesterday evening, the Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner and Mark Love, executive director of The McGladrey Classic, facilitated a question-and-answer session of a McGladrey-hosted event for private equity clients and potential clients to allow them time to “mix and mingle” while discussing issues relevant to their industry.

The private equity event was followed by a reception at the ballroom of The Cloister for all McGladrey clients and potential clients in attendance, as well as their guests.

After a full day on the course today, McGladrey guests will gather at the Sea Island Beach Club Tiki Bar this evening to enjoy time with one another, their McGladrey hosts and Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III.

Tomorrow’s weather forecast calls for more sun and temperatures in the mid-70s. Perfect weather for a little golf!

Check back for more updates from the course tomorrow.

The Latest from The McGladrey Classic

Yesterday’s RSM International Pro-Am was followed by one of our favorite aspects of The McGladrey Classic – Youth Day. Hundreds of children joined us for corn hole, face-painting and a clinic by last year’s tournament champion Ben Crane, who shared tips for living, including this advice: “If you want to do anything really good in life, you’ve got to love it.”

Following the clinic, McGladrey leaders teamed up with professional golfers for a putting contest with Special Olympics athletes and children from Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia. We also filmed a public service announcement, which will be airing on the Golf Channel this coming weekend, so keep an eye out for that.

After Youth Day activities, McGladrey clients and guests enjoyed a concert under the stars with Gary Allan – quite a treat!

And now, today, after a couple of days of slightly overcast weather, the sun is out in full force for Round 1 of The McGladrey Classic, which also happens to be Military Appreciation Day – a fitting tribute to our country’s finest!

Check back tomorrow for more from Sea Island…

The McGladrey Classic - Just Another Day in Paradise

Yesterday marked another beautiful day at Sea Island, with McGladrey employees Jenny Sulzer from the firm’s Orlando office and Scott Moran from Chicago visiting as on-the-ground reporters. You can find their on-camera accounts of their visits to Sea Island on the McGladrey YouTube channel (and here on our golf blog).

The day ended with a fun-filled Pro-Am pairings party at the home of Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and his wife Robin, where McGladrey guests enjoyed good old-fashioned Southern cuisine, while overlooking a beautiful marsh.

As is typically the case with The McGladrey Classic, Wednesday is one of the busiest days of the tournament, beginning with early morning tee-times for those playing in the Pro-Am. Later today, we’ll welcome athletes from Special Olympics and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia for a Putting Challenge, which is always one of our favorite activities of the week. Things will wrap up with a concert under the stars with Gary Allan.

Check back tomorrow for more from Sea Island, and keep up with tournament events at www.mcgladreyclassic.com and by tuning in to the Golf Channel.

Welcoming Guests to The McGladrey Classic

Today marks another beautiful day here at The McGladrey Classic on Sea Island.

To encourage employee engagement and reward employees, McGladrey sponsored an all-employee contest, which resulted in one winner from each of the firm’s regions winning an opportunity to serve as on-the-ground reporters to give their fellow teammates a first-hand account of activities taking place during the Classic. One of the first winners, Scott Moran along with his guest, arrived at Sea Island yesterday afternoon, and attended a welcome reception for clients and potential clients at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace.

Team McGladrey Zach Johnson, McGladrey LLP Managing Partner and CEO Joe Adams, and Chief Marketing Officer Bob Gerardi were featured speakers welcoming guests to Sea Island and to The McGladrey Classic.

Before the evening's festivities, however, was the inaugural PGA TOUR Wives Wiffle Ball Classic where TOUR players and their wives teamed up with local children for a "boys against the girls" game of good, clean fun. While the boys took home the trophy, the real winner was Altama Elementary's Blessings in a Backpack Program, which took home the $15,000 raised by the event!

After golf, a little pool-side relaxation and tours of the facilities, Scott will report back to McGladrey employees on his experiences on the island.

We’ll continue to provide daily updates here on our golf blog, as well. So check back regularly throughout the week for new information. You can also follow tournament events at www.mcgladreyclassic.com or by watching the Golf Channel this coming weekend.

Teeing it up for The McGladrey Classic

A small contingent of McGladrey staff arrived on Sea Island yesterday and while it was a beautiful sun-shiny day, most of our time was spent indoors preparing welcome kits for our guests who will be arriving in three separate “waves” over the coming days.

We did take time for dinner at local restaurant favorite Crab Daddy’s last night though (YUM!), so now we’re fortified for today’s activities, which include practice round on the Seaside Course of Sea Island Golf Club.

This afternoon, PGA TOUR wives are sponsoring a Wiffle Ball tournament, with proceeds going to charity.

We’ll wrap up the evening with a welcome reception for clients and guests at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace.

Check back tomorrow for our next update, and keep up with the “latest and the greatest” from The McGladrey Classic at www.mcgladreyclassic.com.

Just a few more days...

This can’t be right, the 2012 McGladrey Classic is only THREE days away? It’s crazy how fast time passes when you are having fun planning this tournament. The staff is packing up their bags and getting ready to head down to beautiful Sea Island for what will be a very exciting week.

In the meantime, the Frys.com Open starts up today in San Martin, CA. McGladrey wants to wish good luck to Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco as they compete in this tournament.

Last Thurs., Oct. 4, we selected two of our four exemptions for The McGladrey Classic: John Daly and Boo Weekley. View the complete 2012 Player Field here. It is going to be a great tournament to watch so if you are unable to attend in person, be sure to watch it on The Golf Channel.

For those of you attending the Dawg House during the tournament, rumor has it that a very special VIP guest will be joining the fun on Thursday, Oct. 18. It’s not too late to purchase your tickets!

This is the final week to test your hand and ‘Guess the Birdies’. Simply make a $10 donation to the charity of your choice and guess how many birdies will be made during next week’s official tournament rounds, and you might be the lucky winner of a BRAND NEW 2012 Buick Verano!

Before heading down to Sea Island for The McGladrey Classic, be sure to check out the schedule of events to decide what you don't want to miss while you're there. And check back daily next week as we post the latest updates of what’s going on at The McGladrey Classic! You can also follow us on our McGladrey Classic Facebook page and on Twitter, @McGladreyClssc for real-time updates from Sea Island. Hope to see you there!

Thursday, October 4, 2012

We’ve just entered The McGladrey Classic’s favorite month!

It’s been a whirlwind of a week for Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III. Both of them left their hearts on the course at the Ryder Cup, and while we were hoping that Team USA would bring home the trophy, we’d like to congratulate Team Europe for their win.

With the 2012 McGladrey Classic only 10 days away, Zach and Davis are gearing up to welcome golf fans to their beautiful home of Sea Island. Davis serves as tournament chairman and host. He and Zach will be joined by fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco and other professional golfers for the third annual McGladrey Classic (Oct. 15 – 21). Earlier this week, Davis spoke with Golfer’s Guide about the Heritage at Hilton Head Island and The McGladrey Classic. It’s a great article that highlights two stellar Southern courses. Check it out here.

On Mon., Oct. 1, we had a special guest take over our social media pages – Jonathan Byrd! He answered many questions that were submitted by fans. If you missed it, it’s not too late, you can check out his responses on The McGladrey Classic Facebook page.

The McGladrey Classic isn’t the only golf event we like to talk about on this blog! On Sept. 25, our Rockford, IL office held its second annual Golf Skills Experience event. Much like The McGladrey Classic teams up with Special Olympics, the Golf Skills Experience is also linked to Special Olympics, with proceeds benefitting the nonprofit’s Illinois chapter. The Experience allows Special Olympic athletes to practice the skills necessary to compete in the Special Olympics’ golf competition. McGladrey takes pride in giving back to our communities so we are glad to see the great turnout for the event, which will continue to be an annual event.

Again, The McGladrey Classic is only 10 short days away! If you haven’t already done so, mark your calendars NOW with all the events that will be taking place throughout the tournament so that you won’t miss anything. You can find the 2012 Schedule of Events and purchase tickets on the McGladrey Classic website.

Check back in next week as we provide our last blog post before heading down to Sea Island! And be sure to check in daily during tournament week for updates on all the events!

Just a Little More Than Two Weeks Until The McGladrey Classic

It feels as if it was just a few days ago that we were packing up to return from Sea Island following the second annual McGladrey Classic. It’s hard to believe that in 17 short days, the third McGladrey Classic will be in full swing. Follow us the whole week (Oct. 15 – 21) at Sea Island as we bring you updates and the inside scoop here on the McGladrey Golf Blog and via our social media channels – McGladrey News on Facebook, @McGladrey on Twitter, and McGladrey on LinkedIn. It’s going to be an exciting week so stay up-to-the-minute with us!

These past two weeks, action has been picking up on-site at The McGladrey Classic. More commitments have been added to the lineup, including Stuart Appleby, Rory Sabbatini and David Duval. The McGladrey Classic hosted Media Day on Monday, September 17 which allowed PGA TOUR players (including tournament host Davis Love III) and McGladrey leaders to answer questions about the upcoming tournament and related activities from national and local media outlets. You can listen to Matt Adams ‘Fairways of Life’ to hear an interview with Davis and with McGladrey’s Chief Marketing Officer, Bob Gerardi, here. Finishing touches are being done on the tents and chalets located around the course. The course is coming along great and looks beautiful. You can view pictures of The McGladrey Classic build on our Facebook page. And The Dawg House, a new feature this year, is going to be an amazing place to watch the tournament. There doesn’t seem to be a bad view no matter where you stand. It’s not too late to purchase your tickets!

But before things officially kick off with The McGladrey Classic, we want to wish the best to Team USA as they compete for the Ryder Cup.  The team includes Team McGladrey Members Zach Johnson and Davis who, of course, is this year’s Ryder Cup Captain! And speaking of the Ryder Cup, did you know Team USA is adding a ‘13th Man’ to the team? It’s YOU! The Ryder Cup has created a platform that brings fans from across the world together to pull for the players. Become a ‘13th Man’ here and join in on the tweet battle between Team Europe and Team USA.

Check back in next week for the latest updates on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey.

It’s Been a Busy Week at Sea Island!

What a week it has been down at Sea Island, GA! This past Monday (Sept. 17), The McGladrey Classic Media Day was held at Sea Island Resort, and included a three-hole Charity Skins Game, which raised $7,500 for local charities: The Gathering Place, Hospice of the Golden Isles, and United Way of Coastal GA.

Things are coming together at the tournament. Progress has been made on the Military Outpost, the McGladrey Chalet behind the 18th green, other venues near the 18th green, and the merchandise tent (which is at a new location this year – in the Miller64 Fan Village). Check out the McGladrey Classic Facebook page to see pictures of the construction.

As we’re gearing up for The McGladrey Classic and the Ryder Cup, McGladrey is sponsoring a series of digital and cable television ads. The digital ads are a great addition since they highlight Davis Love III and Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO of McGladrey LLP, reflecting on the importance of strong leadership, processes, teamwork, integrity and relationships – and how these attributes apply on the course and in the business world. You can check out these videos via numerous national outlets (CNBC.com, Fox News & Business, WSJ.com, etc.), and on Davis’ Ryder Cup Captains Blog.
A fun, new event is taking place this year at The McGladrey Classic – The 2012 Wiffle Ball Classic. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a game of wiffle ball played by PGA TOUR Players vs. their wives! Who do you think will win? The game takes place Mon., Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Frederica Academy Baseball Field.

We can’t let this week go by without wishing Team USA and Team McGladrey Members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III good luck this week as the 2012 Ryder Cup activities start up on Sat., Sept. 22 and run through Sun., Sept. 30.

And with the 2012 McGladrey Classic quickly approaching, we want to remind our readers to purchase tickets now for the tournament and the Gary Allan Concert (Wed., Oct. 17). You can find out more details on tickets, packages, and merchandise here.

Check back in next week as we fill you in on more updates from The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey.

A Week To Remember

This week has been one for remembrance. McGladrey would like to take a moment to honor those who lost loved ones or were affected by the events of  9/11/01. The McGladrey family salutes you!

Team McGladrey Member, Chris DiMarco also took a walk down memory lane this past Monday (Sept. 10) when he stopped by The Golf Channel’s ‘Morning Drive’ to talk about his memories of Arnold Palmer to celebrate Palmer’s 83rd birthday. Happy belated Birthday, Arnold! What are some of your favorite memories of Arnold Palmer?

McGladrey is also excited to have Chris DiMarco attend the McGladrey Signature Reception at The Investment Company Institute (ICI) Tax and Accounting Conference in Orlando on Oct. 1. That should be a fun night!

Things are starting to pick up for the 2012 McGladrey Classic this week. We received notice that three major championship winners have committed to the tournament: Jim Furyk, Angel Cabrera (two time!) and Todd Hamilton. The competition keeps getting stronger and stronger.

As the countdown dwindles, The Lodge at Sea Island, GA is getting busier with deliveries and construction starting up for the tournament. The first pavilion to be built was the Military Outpost. McGladrey is proud to support the men and women who serve our country – that is why all active and retired military receive free admission to The McGladrey Classic.

Be sure to check back next week as we give you another update on The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey.

One step closer...

What a week it’s been for Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain, Davis Love III, as he announced his four captain picks! We know it was difficult for Davis to select from so many great professional golfers, and he had many factors to consider when making his selections for the U.S. team. Congratulations to Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, and first-time choice Brandt Snedeker. What a team the U.S. will have this year at the Ryder Cup! What are your thoughts on Love’s picks? Will you be watching in or maybe even attending in person?
