It’s been four days since Ben Crane took home the trophy from the second McGladrey Classic, and three days since he and his wife Heather welcomed their third child Saylor Mackenzie to the family. It was quite a week for the Crane family, and quite a week for McGladrey, as well!
In the event that you didn’t read our daily updates from Sea Island, here are a few of the highlights:
• Caddie for Love winner Claudio Kawecki proposed to his fiancé Marissa shortly after arriving on the island – just a few hours before the RSM International Pro-Am pairings party, giving a whole new meaning to the contest’s name.
• Hall of Fame LPGA Professional Nancy Lopez conducted a golf clinic and talked about the importance of giving back to the community.
• Country singer Darius Rucker gave an awesome concert to 5,000 fans gathered on the course Wednesday evening. The fans didn’t let a little bit of rain dampen their spirits or their enthusiasm as they sang and danced the night away.
• Youth Day included a putting contest with Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia athletes. McGladrey leaders served as scorekeepers for the contest, and everyone went home with winning smiles on their faces.
• Military Appreciation Day honored those who have served and those who are currently serving our country. Seeing all of the red-white-and-blue on the course and watching members of our military serve as honorary observers was truly touching.
Once again, we’d like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who helped welcome more than 23,000 golf fans to The McGladrey Classic, and made sure they experienced the best in southern hospitality while at Sea Island.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s event. Go ahead and mark your calendar for Oct. 15 – 21, 2012!

It’s hard to believe but the second annual McGladrey Classic has come and gone, with Ben Crane taking home the trophy.
In 2006, just before he turned 30, Ben was the highest ranked American golfer under that age in the Official World Golf Rankings. In 2010, he carded a final-round 70 to win the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines by a single stroke, and in October 2010, he won the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia, an event co-sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and Asian Tour. Ben won the 2011 McGladrey Classic by defeating Webb Simpson in a playoff.
Ben is currently one of four golfers in the PGA exclusive boy band “Golf Boys,” along with Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson and Hunter Mahan. (Farmers Insurance donates $1,000 for every 100,000 views of the video on YouTube.) Charitable proceeds support both Farmers and Ben Crane charitable initiatives.
We’d like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who helped welcome more than 23,000 golf fans to the event by showing the best in southern hospitality.
We’re heading back to our office this week, but are already looking forward to returning to Sea Island next October!

Yesterday was another beautiful day at The McGladrey Classic, and McGladrey clients and guests ended the day with an oyster roast at The Cloister’s Rainbow Island where they enjoyed Brunswick stew, bluegrass music and beautiful views of the marsh.
As we enter the final round of The McGladrey Classic this morning, the top five players are last year’s British Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, Chris Flanks, Jeff Overton, Nick O’Hern and Webb Simpson. And Trevor Immelman made a huge move in the third round, tying the course record of 62.
We’ll be watching the end of the tournament from the 18th green. If you’re here, we hope you’ll join us. If not, we hope you’ll join by tuning into The Golf Channel (Coverage begins at 2 p.m., ET.) or via the PGA TOUR.com. (Coverage begins at 11 a.m., ET.)
Who do you think will win?

Our third group of guests arrived as Sea Island yesterday and, after a reception at the Cloister’s Black Bank Terrace yesterday evening, they’re out on the course with us today – another beautiful day on the island.
The highlight of the morning has been a golf clinic by World Golf Hall of Fame Member Nancy Lopez. Not only did Nancy give attendees tips for improving their game, but she also shared some background on how she got came to love golf. Nancy’s father put a club in her hands when she was eight years old. And while her parents didn’t pressure her, she wanted to play and play well because she wanted to please them. Nancy said that her parents never made her feel bad when she didn’t play well, but simply asked if she had given it 100 percent. If she had, they assured her that was all she could do, and that she should feel good about it.
Nancy also talked with the crowd about her passion for giving back to those less fortunate than herself. She is actively involved in a number of charitable organizations, and shared a moving story about the physical and mental difference she saw in one particular young man through her work with one special organization. This passion for giving back to the community is one that McGladrey shares, and Nancy’s heartfelt account of what a difference each of us can make by getting involved has us even more excited than ever about our upcoming annual Volunteer Day next month.
The best question from the crowd came from a young girl who asked, “How did you get so good?” Nancy’s answer: “Lots of practice. You have to work hard, and you have to love what you do.” Words of wisdom for all of us – on and off the course.
We love you, Nancy Lopez!
Tomorrow is the final round of The McGladrey Classic. Who do you think will win?

Yesterday was Military Appreciation Day here at The McGladrey Classic. It was great seeing all of the red-white-and-blue on and around the course, and to see a number of military personnel serving as honorary spectators. This was just one small way for us to acknowledge the important contributions our military personnel make to our country and our freedom. We were honored to have them join us for this special day.
The excitement continued for Caddie for Love and Caddie Quest winners Claudio Kawecki and Matt Stoner, as well, as they were interviewed live on air by XM Radio’s Matt Adams first thing in the morning before their departures from the island.
Yesterday was also extra special for McGladrey client Ted Koegnic, president and CEO, Monroe Capital Markets, LLC in Chicago. Ted got a hole-in-one on No. 8 at Brunswick Country Club, and was recognized during dinner with congratulations by nearly 200 clients, potential clients and McGladrey hosts.
Today, after more on air interviews and filming with McGladrey leaders, we’re welcoming our third group of clients and potential clients to the island. We’ll wrap up the day with an evening reception at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace.
Check back tomorrow for the next update from The McGladrey Classic.

Yesterday afternoon’s Youth Day activities were truly the highlight of the day! Chuck “The Hit Man” Hiter wowed the crowd with his infamous trick shot show, and then a number of McGladrey leaders served as scorekeepers during the putting tournament with PGA TOUR professionals, Special Olympics, and Boys and Girls Club athletes. First, second and third-place winners took home trophies, but everyone who participated in the tournament left a little richer for the experience.
After a brief reception at The Lodge, clients and potential clients walked with their McGladrey hosts across the grounds to enjoy a concert under the stars (and a beautiful full moon) by Darius Rucker (formerly with Hootie and the Blowfish). In spite of a little rain near the beginning of the concert, the 5,000 fans that turned out for the event thoroughly enjoyed the performance, the food and the venue.
We were “up and at ’em” early this morning, accompanying Caddie for Love Winner Claudio Kawecki and Caddie Quest Winner Matt Stoner for interviews with the PGA TOUR Network’s Matt Adams, and are enjoying the beautiful weather we have here on Sea Island for the first official round of this year’s McGladrey Classic.
Check back tomorrow for our next update!

Last night’s RSM International Pro-Am pairings party at Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III’s home was the highlight of the day yesterday. In addition to the pairings announcements, we were thrilled to be joined by Caddie for Love winner Claudio Kawecki and his fiancé Marissa, as well as Caddie Quest winner Matt Stoner (our employee contest winner who will caddie for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson) and his wife Amy. (Claudio actually popped the question just a few short hours before the party here on Sea Island, making the celebration extra special!)
This morning, we joined Davis, Claudio, Zach and Matt bright and early as they teed off on #1 under a somewhat cloudy, but beautiful sky for the RSM International Pro-Am. They both seemed a bit nervous, but VERY excited to be taking advantage of their once-in-a-lifetime opportunities here at Sea Island.
Highlights coming up today include this afternoon’s Youth Day activities, during which a number of McGladrey leaders will serve as scorekeepers for teams of PGA TOUR professionals, Special Olympics athletes and Boys and Girls Club members. After that, we’ll gather for a brief reception at the Oak Room at The Lodge, and will then wrap up the day with a concert by Darius Rucker (formerly with Hootie and the Blowfish).
Check back tomorrow for updates from today’s activities, and to hear what we have on tap for Thursday.

It’s amazing the difference a day can make. While our first morning here on Sea Island was cloudy and blustery, we woke up this morning to a beautiful sunrise, and an extended forecast of sunny 70-80 degree weather for the remainder of The McGladrey Classic.
Today, we’re touring the course and checking out all of the last-minute preparations by the grounds team, talking with some of the media representatives who have already arrived for the tournament and welcoming clients and players to the island.
This evening, we’ll join Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and his wife Robin at their home as they host the RSM International Pro-Am Party. Having a PGA TOUR professional host a pairings party is just one of the things unique to The McGladrey Classic.
Check back here daily throughout the week for more updates, and to learn more about the uniqueness of The McGladrey Classic.

It’s official…a small contingent of McGladrey “worker bees” have arrived at Sea Island, and we’re working with employees from the PGA TOUR, The Lodge, The Cloister and others to make sure everything is ready to go as PGA TOUR professionals and golf enthusiasts from around the globe arrive for the second McGladrey Classic.
Last night’s weather was less than stellar (howling wind and rain), but the planning team had a wonderful dinner at the island’s infamous Crab Daddy’s. Delicious! And the extended weather forecast is calling for clearing of the clouds and, ultimately, some of that beautiful Georgia sunshine peeking through the clouds.
This morning, we’re at The Lodge for PGA TOUR player registration, and we’ll be touring the grounds during today’s practice rounds. We've already run into Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson Daimon Green. Wonder who else we'll see today?
We’ll wrap up the evening with a reception at The Cloister, where Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III will join us as we host a small team of McGladrey clients and potential clients for an intimate gathering in a beautiful setting. It’ll be a great way to end our first full day on the island.
Tomorrow, player registration continues. Check back for another update then.

The McGladrey Classic tees off next week (Oct. 10 – 16) at beautiful Sea Island, home to Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III. This week, we'd like to share with you a special guest post by Zach…
My home of Sea Island has been abuzz for the past several weeks gearing up for The McGladrey Classic. Last year’s inaugural event brought more than 20,000 golf enthusiasts to Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course, and more than 1,200 volunteers showed them the true meaning of Southern Hospitality.
Next week, we’ll welcome golf enthusiasts from around the world back to Sea Island for the second McGladrey Classic. I’m particularly excited this year to have Matt Stoner, winner of Caddie Quest (a contest for employees of title sponsor McGladrey) caddying for me during the RSM International Pro-Am Wed., Oct. 12. Fellow Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is equally excited to have the winner of the nationwide Caddie for Love contest caddying for him that same day.
We’ll wrap up the afternoon of the Twelfth with a kids putting contest, and will end the evening with a concert by Darius Rucker. It’ll be a busy but fun day – just one of many during the tournament. A few other tournament highlights include a Pro-Am party at Davis and Robin Love’s home, a trick shot show by Chuck “The Hit Man” Hiter and a clinic by Nancy Lopez. We’ll end the week with presentation of The McGladrey Classic trophy to winner on the 18th green.
If you can’t make it in person, I hope you’ll tune in to the Golf Channel for live coverage of The McGladrey Classic, and to see the beautiful place I call home – Sea Island! (You can also check back here for daily updates from the tournament throughout the event.)
