The Second McGladrey Classic is Almost a Reality!

The PGA TOUR Fall Series is underway, which means that The McGladrey Classic is right around the corner, and course set-up is in high gear. We’re looking forward to returning to Sea Island Oct. 10 – 16, and are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will be as spectacular as it was during last year’s inaugural event.

In the meantime, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas is this week. After Vegas, things move to the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California, for the Frys.com Open. From there, it’s back to the East Coast with The McGladrey Classic! (The Series will close out with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.)

If you’re planning to join us at Sea Island, you might want to check out what Scott McQuade, new president and CEO of the Golden Isles Convention and Visitors Bureau, has to say about his “Top 9 activities to experience in the Golden Isles” during tournament week for The McGladrey Classic. From shopping to paddle boarding to enjoying The Lodge’s famous “back-door lemonade,” Scott shares his favorites about the island.

Only 10 more days until The McGladrey Classic… Player commitments to date include Jonathan Byrd, Ricky Barnes, Angel Cabrera, Stewart Cink, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Lucas Glover, David Toms, Boo Weekley, Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III, Heath Slocum (winner of the inaugural McGladrey Classic) and many other PGA TOUR players. View the complete roster here.

Look forward to seeing you at Sea Island!

Congratulations and Welcome to The McGladrey Classic!

Today, we'd like to share with you a special guest post by Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, who has some exciting news to share about our recent Caddie for Love contest. Keep reading to hear what he has to say…

It’s hard to believe that nearly a year has gone by since the inaugural McGladrey Classic, and that the second event is less than 30 days away (Oct. 10-16). I look forward to welcoming golf fans from around the world to the event, and to my beautiful home of Sea Island.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate a couple of lucky golf enthusiasts: Claudio Kawecki, winner of the nationwide Caddie for Love contest, and Matt Stoner, winner of Caddie Quest, an internal contest for McGladrey employees. Claudio will join us at the Pro-Am as my caddie, and Matt will caddie for fellow Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson. Zach and I are looking forward to benefiting from their enthusiasm for and knowledge of the game!

The Power of Patience and Perseverance, by Chris DiMarco

The McGladrey Classic is less than one short month away, and we're in high-gear preparing for the tournament. Today, we'd like to share with you a special guest post by Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco. To enjoy his message about patience and perserverance, keep reading...

Whether you are a weekend golfer or a PGA TOUR veteran like me, you know that golf can be a humbling game requiring patience, perseverance and a keen understanding of the elements of your game that you can control. In many ways patience, perseverance and understanding are traits that led me to my relationship with McGladrey and characteristics that you should always look for in a business partner — whether it’s your caddie, coach, trainer, doctor, manager or even an accountant.

An example on a day-to-day level would be a windy day on the golf course. If you attack the course without patience, you may be rewarded from time to time with a wind-aided shot, but more often than not you will find yourself in the rough, in a hazard or out of bounds. Patient golfers not only know when to play conservatively, but also when an aggressive, wind-aided play may reward them. Perseverance is also important on the golf course. Even for us pros on our best days, the ball doesn’t always go where we want it to go. You need to be mentally tough to recover from a bad shot and not let it affect your next shot.

Since I turned pro, my patience has been tested on many occasions, and perseverance was an important specific lesson for me to learn early in my career. The demanding professional golf schedule challenged me to prepare and practice better than I ever had before and forced me to be patient with my body, specifically when my body wasn’t feeling up to par, or even when I’ve had to play through some pain.

On the business front, the game of golf and the demands of being successful at it have taught me a valuable lesson over time. I now know that not every day is going to lead to record profits and record returns, but as long as you stick to your fundamentals and core values and surround yourself with the right partners, like McGladrey, you’ll know when to exercise patience, and you’ll persevere through anything that the golf course, the business world or life throws at you.

An Update from Sea Island - Home of The McGladrey Classic

Earlier this week, we hosted local reporters and journalists, Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia representatives and other special guests for The McGladrey Classic Media Day at Sea Island. It’s always great to visit Sea Island, and this trip was no exception. The Southern Hospitality experienced while on the island is second-to-none, and catching up with Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is always a pleasure.

Below are a few things we learned and/or realized during this week’s McGladrey Classic Media Day at Sea Island:

• The 2011 McGladrey Classic is one short month away! (Somehow, it seemed further out than that.)
• A professional golfer’s workout plan is serious business – many hit the gym at 4:30 a.m. to get their work-out in before their day begins.
• VIP tickets are sold out, but general tickets are still available for the Oct. 12 Darius Rucker concert! Get yours before they run out.
• The Caddie for Love winner will be announced NEXT WEEK (Sept. 15)! Again…we knew the date, but it seems as if we just launched the contest.
• In addition to Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia, this year’s McGladrey Classic will also benefit a number of other local charitable organizations in the Sea Island area. Our favorite aspect of the event is giving back to the community.

Check back next week for another update – and to learn which lucky golf fan will have the opportunity of a lifetime to caddie for Davis Love III during the 2011 McGladrey Classic!

Happy Labor Day from Team McGladrey!

We’re looking forward to the upcoming holiday weekend, but we’ll be cutting it a bit short for a quick trip to Sea Island to meet with sports writers and local media outlets to give them an overview of what they can expect during this year’s McGladrey Classic. Look for updates from there on Twitter and Facebook.

Two short weeks from today (Thurs., Sept. 15), we’ll announce the first ever Caddie for Love winner, which will give one lucky golf enthusiast the opportunity to caddie for Team McGladrey Member and 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III at The McGladrey Classic Pro-Am next month.

We’ll also announce the winner of Caddie Quest, which will give one lucky RSM McGladrey or McGladrey & Pullen (We operate together under the McGladrey brand.) employee the chance to caddie for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson on Wed. Oct. 12 in the Pro-Am. We’re looking forward to announcing the winners, and to seeing them at Sea Island in a few weeks.

During The McGladrey Classic, we’ll post daily updates here to our blog, as well as to Twitter - and Facebook. We plan to have our contest winners post first-hand accounts from the event, and we’ll share updates from the Darius Rucker (formerly with Hootie and the Blowfish) concert scheduled for Wed., Oct. 12. Between now and then, though, we’ll continue to post weekly updates here on our golf blog, including one or two special guest posts. (We’re not going to “spill the beans” yet – you’ll need to check back next week to find out who will be making a guest appearance.)

We hope you’ll follow along, and join the conversation from The McGladrey Classic!
