Happy Holidays and an Early Present for The McGladrey Classic!

The holidays are in full swing, and one of our favorite “findings” this week was from the LPGA TOUR – postings from a number of TOUR members about their favorite holiday decorations. Our very own Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is included among those sharing their favs. Check it out.

And speaking of Natalie, earlier this week, she hosted the Natalie Gulbis Golf Classic, benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson, NV – a great cause. We admire Natalie’s dedication to giving back during this holiday season, and appreciate the “shout out” she gave to McGladrey through her Twitter post.

Also earlier this week, we were thrilled to learn that The McGladrey Classic earned an award for “Best New Promotional Idea” by the PGA TOUR during the TOUR’s Tournament Advisory Council meeting this month. The McGladrey Classic was singled out for its “Caddie for Love” promotional campaign, which resulted in more than 22,000 fans submitting essays explaining why they should be picked to caddie for tournament host and Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III during the Wednesday Pro-Am. Thanks to everyone who voted, and to the fans to entered the contest – it was a blast! Read more about this cool recognition.

We’ll be taking a break the rest of this month to wrap up things at the office, and to spend some time with family and friends. We hope you’ll check back with us in the New Year, and wish you and yours a joyous holiday season!

'Tis the Season to be Busy for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson

While December is usually a busy month for everyone, it has been particularly busy for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson. Last week’s Chevron Challenge was a heart-stopper, with Tiger Woods etching out a one-shot win over Zach. The final hour was up for grabs until Tiger came through in the clutch on the last two holes. Great job, Zach - we’re proud of you!

Earlier this week, Zach launched his new website. The site is chock-full of photos, “Zactoids” and other interesting information about Zach, his team, his partners (including McGladrey), his foundation and The PGA TOUR. You can even send a note directly to Zach from the site. Check it out – you won’t be disappointed!

What’s keeping YOU busy this holiday season? We’d love to hear from you!

What a Great Week!

This week as been full of positive news at McGladrey. First, we kicked off our return from the Thanksgiving holiday with the wonderful news of a three-year extension to The McGladrey Classic, taking the tournament through 2015! We look forward to returning to Sea Island for the event for another four years, and to continuing our partnership with the PGA TOUR and the Davis Love Foundation.

As if that weren’t enough to make for an exciting week, earlier today, we announced the completion of the acquisition of RSM McGladrey by McGladrey & Pullen.

Since 1999, McGladrey & Pullen has operated under an alternative practice structure with RSM McGladrey through which McGladrey & Pullen provided clients with public accounting services, and RSM McGladrey provided non-public accounting services, including tax and consulting services.

This change returns our firm – which will continue to go to market under the McGladrey brand – to a traditional partner-owned CPA firm structure. As a reunited firm, we can effectively and efficiently provide our clients with seamless access to world-class resources to drive their success.

We’re building on a foundation of strength, and we will continue to make significant investments in our brand, as is evidenced, in part by our renewed partnership of The McGladrey Classic. We hope we’ll see you at Sea Island next October!

Giving Thanks

This time of year, our thoughts naturally turn to giving thanks, and here at McGladrey we have so much to be thankful for, just of few of which are:

• our more than 2,100 employees who recently gave back to their local communities by participating in volunteer activities for area nonprofits through our firm’s second nationwide Volunteer Day,
• an extremely successful 2011 McGladrey Classic at beautiful Sea Island, which raised approximately $300,000 for local and national nonprofits, and
• our great partnerships with Team McGladrey members PGA TOUR professionals Zach Johnson, Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco, and LPGA TOUR Professional Natalie Gulbis. (Both Chris and Natalie on The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive this week – Chris as a guest host on Nov. 17, and Natalie as a guest on Nov. 15. You can read her story online.

We’re also thankful for the generosity of The President’s Cup, which is underway this week in Australia. More than $23 million has been distributed to 380 charities in 15 countries since the event’s inception in 1994. We’ll be watching this weekend, and pulling for Team USA!

What are you thankful for?

We’ll be taking a break to spend time with family and friends next week, but will post our next update on December 1. We hope you’ll check back with us then!

PGA TOUR and Team McGladrey Updates

Earlier this week, the PGA TOUR posted an article about Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson (Did you know that you can count on two fingers the number of players who won at least one PGA TOUR event a season during the four-year stretch from 2007-2010? Most would guess the first answer – Phil Mickelson, but did you know that the other answer is none other than our own Zach Johnson?!) Check out the “rest of the story” here.

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis posted a neat picture from this week’s Wendy’s Three Tour Pro-Am, benefitting adoption. Check it out on Twitter.

Also this week, the TOUR announced nominees for the PGA TOUR Player of the Year for 2011: Keegan Bradley, Luke Donald, Bill Haas, Webb Simpson and Nick Watney. The award is voted on by PGA TOUR players, and the winner will be announced in December. If you had a ballot, who would you choose?

Sadly Luke Donald’s father passed away unexpectedly this week. On behalf of Team McGladrey, we extend our condolences.

Missing Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic

With the 2011 McGladrey Classic behind us, we’re missing Sea Island and Team McGladrey, so we’ve been scanning the web and social media channels to get our golf “fix” for the week. Here’s a sampling of what we found:

This is one for the “too cute for words” file – an adorable twitpic of Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson’s “pup” on Halloween

We also found a nice picture of Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis on #17 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verde Beach, Florida.

Finally, Sea Island has posted to their website a nice update about the island and The McGladrey Classic, which includes a cool quote from PGATour.com correspondent Stan Awtrey, who says, “There are many great resorts in the United States, but here’s one vote that says Sea Island holds the Royal Flush.” We’re a bit partial, ourselves, and agree with this assessment. We can hardly wait to return to Sea Island for next year’s tournament (Oct. 15 through 21, 2012). You can read the update, take a tour of the course, get maps, reserve your tee times, check out your dining options and learn more about the island here. - http://www.seaisland.com/golf/mcgladrey-classic

Memories from the 2011 McGladrey Classic...

We’re sharing a few images this week from the 2011 McGladrey Classic this week.

If you haven't already viewed the highlights clip from this year's event, you can access that via the link on the right-hand column of this blog - lots of links to cool information from the tournament there.

Next year’s event is scheduled for Oct. 15 – 21, 2012, at Sea Island. Hope to see you there!

The 2011 McGladrery Classic - A Recap

It’s been four days since Ben Crane took home the trophy from the second McGladrey Classic, and three days since he and his wife Heather welcomed their third child Saylor Mackenzie to the family. It was quite a week for the Crane family, and quite a week for McGladrey, as well!

In the event that you didn’t read our daily updates from Sea Island, here are a few of the highlights:

Caddie for Love winner Claudio Kawecki proposed to his fiancĂ© Marissa shortly after arriving on the island – just a few hours before the RSM International Pro-Am pairings party, giving a whole new meaning to the contest’s name.
• Hall of Fame LPGA Professional Nancy Lopez conducted a golf clinic and talked about the importance of giving back to the community.
• Country singer Darius Rucker gave an awesome concert to 5,000 fans gathered on the course Wednesday evening. The fans didn’t let a little bit of rain dampen their spirits or their enthusiasm as they sang and danced the night away.
• Youth Day included a putting contest with Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia athletes. McGladrey leaders served as scorekeepers for the contest, and everyone went home with winning smiles on their faces.
• Military Appreciation Day honored those who have served and those who are currently serving our country. Seeing all of the red-white-and-blue on the course and watching members of our military serve as honorary observers was truly touching.

Once again, we’d like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who helped welcome more than 23,000 golf fans to The McGladrey Classic, and made sure they experienced the best in southern hospitality while at Sea Island.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s event. Go ahead and mark your calendar for Oct. 15 – 21, 2012!

Ben Crane Wins the 2011 McGladrey Classic!

It’s hard to believe but the second annual McGladrey Classic has come and gone, with Ben Crane taking home the trophy.

In 2006, just before he turned 30, Ben was the highest ranked American golfer under that age in the Official World Golf Rankings. In 2010, he carded a final-round 70 to win the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines by a single stroke, and in October 2010, he won the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia, an event co-sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and Asian Tour. Ben won the 2011 McGladrey Classic by defeating Webb Simpson in a playoff.

Ben is currently one of four golfers in the PGA exclusive boy band “Golf Boys,” along with Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson and Hunter Mahan. (Farmers Insurance donates $1,000 for every 100,000 views of the video on YouTube.) Charitable proceeds support both Farmers and Ben Crane charitable initiatives.

We’d like to thank the 1,200 volunteers who helped welcome more than 23,000 golf fans to the event by showing the best in southern hospitality.

We’re heading back to our office this week, but are already looking forward to returning to Sea Island next October!

Final Round of The McGladrey Classic

Yesterday was another beautiful day at The McGladrey Classic, and McGladrey clients and guests ended the day with an oyster roast at The Cloister’s Rainbow Island where they enjoyed Brunswick stew, bluegrass music and beautiful views of the marsh.

As we enter the final round of The McGladrey Classic this morning, the top five players are last year’s British Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, Chris Flanks, Jeff Overton, Nick O’Hern and Webb Simpson. And Trevor Immelman made a huge move in the third round, tying the course record of 62.

We’ll be watching the end of the tournament from the 18th green. If you’re here, we hope you’ll join us. If not, we hope you’ll join by tuning into The Golf Channel (Coverage begins at 2 p.m., ET.) or via the PGA TOUR.com. (Coverage begins at 11 a.m., ET.)

Who do you think will win?

The McGladrey Classic: We Love You, Nancy Lopez!

Our third group of guests arrived as Sea Island yesterday and, after a reception at the Cloister’s Black Bank Terrace yesterday evening, they’re out on the course with us today – another beautiful day on the island.

The highlight of the morning has been a golf clinic by World Golf Hall of Fame Member Nancy Lopez. Not only did Nancy give attendees tips for improving their game, but she also shared some background on how she got came to love golf. Nancy’s father put a club in her hands when she was eight years old. And while her parents didn’t pressure her, she wanted to play and play well because she wanted to please them. Nancy said that her parents never made her feel bad when she didn’t play well, but simply asked if she had given it 100 percent. If she had, they assured her that was all she could do, and that she should feel good about it.

Nancy also talked with the crowd about her passion for giving back to those less fortunate than herself. She is actively involved in a number of charitable organizations, and shared a moving story about the physical and mental difference she saw in one particular young man through her work with one special organization. This passion for giving back to the community is one that McGladrey shares, and Nancy’s heartfelt account of what a difference each of us can make by getting involved has us even more excited than ever about our upcoming annual Volunteer Day next month.

The best question from the crowd came from a young girl who asked, “How did you get so good?” Nancy’s answer: “Lots of practice. You have to work hard, and you have to love what you do.” Words of wisdom for all of us – on and off the course.

We love you, Nancy Lopez!

Tomorrow is the final round of The McGladrey Classic. Who do you think will win?

The McGladrey Classic: Honoring Our Military Personnel

Yesterday was Military Appreciation Day here at The McGladrey Classic. It was great seeing all of the red-white-and-blue on and around the course, and to see a number of military personnel serving as honorary spectators. This was just one small way for us to acknowledge the important contributions our military personnel make to our country and our freedom. We were honored to have them join us for this special day.

The excitement continued for Caddie for Love and Caddie Quest winners Claudio Kawecki and Matt Stoner, as well, as they were interviewed live on air by XM Radio’s Matt Adams first thing in the morning before their departures from the island.

Yesterday was also extra special for McGladrey client Ted Koegnic, president and CEO, Monroe Capital Markets, LLC in Chicago. Ted got a hole-in-one on No. 8 at Brunswick Country Club, and was recognized during dinner with congratulations by nearly 200 clients, potential clients and McGladrey hosts.

Today, after more on air interviews and filming with McGladrey leaders, we’re welcoming our third group of clients and potential clients to the island. We’ll wrap up the day with an evening reception at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace.

Check back tomorrow for the next update from The McGladrey Classic.

The McGladrey Classic: Youth Day Activities and a Special Concert

Yesterday afternoon’s Youth Day activities were truly the highlight of the day! Chuck “The Hit Man” Hiter wowed the crowd with his infamous trick shot show, and then a number of McGladrey leaders served as scorekeepers during the putting tournament with PGA TOUR professionals, Special Olympics, and Boys and Girls Club athletes. First, second and third-place winners took home trophies, but everyone who participated in the tournament left a little richer for the experience.

After a brief reception at The Lodge, clients and potential clients walked with their McGladrey hosts across the grounds to enjoy a concert under the stars (and a beautiful full moon) by Darius Rucker (formerly with Hootie and the Blowfish). In spite of a little rain near the beginning of the concert, the 5,000 fans that turned out for the event thoroughly enjoyed the performance, the food and the venue.

We were “up and at ’em” early this morning, accompanying Caddie for Love Winner Claudio Kawecki and Caddie Quest Winner Matt Stoner for interviews with the PGA TOUR Network’s Matt Adams, and are enjoying the beautiful weather we have here on Sea Island for the first official round of this year’s McGladrey Classic.

Check back tomorrow for our next update!

Oh What a Night! RSM International Pro-Am Pairings Party - The McGladrey Classic

Last night’s RSM International Pro-Am pairings party at Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III’s home was the highlight of the day yesterday. In addition to the pairings announcements, we were thrilled to be joined by Caddie for Love winner Claudio Kawecki and his fiancĂ© Marissa, as well as Caddie Quest winner Matt Stoner (our employee contest winner who will caddie for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson) and his wife Amy. (Claudio actually popped the question just a few short hours before the party here on Sea Island, making the celebration extra special!)

This morning, we joined Davis, Claudio, Zach and Matt bright and early as they teed off on #1 under a somewhat cloudy, but beautiful sky for the RSM International Pro-Am. They both seemed a bit nervous, but VERY excited to be taking advantage of their once-in-a-lifetime opportunities here at Sea Island.

Highlights coming up today include this afternoon’s Youth Day activities, during which a number of McGladrey leaders will serve as scorekeepers for teams of PGA TOUR professionals, Special Olympics athletes and Boys and Girls Club members. After that, we’ll gather for a brief reception at the Oak Room at The Lodge, and will then wrap up the day with a concert by Darius Rucker (formerly with Hootie and the Blowfish).

Check back tomorrow for updates from today’s activities, and to hear what we have on tap for Thursday.

The McGladrey Classic - Day Two on Sea Island

It’s amazing the difference a day can make. While our first morning here on Sea Island was cloudy and blustery, we woke up this morning to a beautiful sunrise, and an extended forecast of sunny 70-80 degree weather for the remainder of The McGladrey Classic.

Today, we’re touring the course and checking out all of the last-minute preparations by the grounds team, talking with some of the media representatives who have already arrived for the tournament and welcoming clients and players to the island.

This evening, we’ll join Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and his wife Robin at their home as they host the RSM International Pro-Am Party. Having a PGA TOUR professional host a pairings party is just one of the things unique to The McGladrey Classic.

Check back here daily throughout the week for more updates, and to learn more about the uniqueness of The McGladrey Classic.

On the Ground at Sea Island for The McGladrey Classic!

It’s official…a small contingent of McGladrey “worker bees” have arrived at Sea Island, and we’re working with employees from the PGA TOUR, The Lodge, The Cloister and others to make sure everything is ready to go as PGA TOUR professionals and golf enthusiasts from around the globe arrive for the second McGladrey Classic.

Last night’s weather was less than stellar (howling wind and rain), but the planning team had a wonderful dinner at the island’s infamous Crab Daddy’s. Delicious! And the extended weather forecast is calling for clearing of the clouds and, ultimately, some of that beautiful Georgia sunshine peeking through the clouds.

This morning, we’re at The Lodge for PGA TOUR player registration, and we’ll be touring the grounds during today’s practice rounds. We've already run into Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson Daimon Green. Wonder who else we'll see today?

We’ll wrap up the evening with a reception at The Cloister, where Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III will join us as we host a small team of McGladrey clients and potential clients for an intimate gathering in a beautiful setting. It’ll be a great way to end our first full day on the island.

Tomorrow, player registration continues. Check back for another update then.

Join Me for The McGladrey Classic - An Invitation from PGA TOUR Professional Zach Johnson

The McGladrey Classic tees off next week (Oct. 10 – 16) at beautiful Sea Island, home to Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III. This week, we'd like to share with you a special guest post by Zach…
My home of Sea Island has been abuzz for the past several weeks gearing up for The McGladrey Classic. Last year’s inaugural event brought more than 20,000 golf enthusiasts to Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course, and more than 1,200 volunteers showed them the true meaning of Southern Hospitality.

Next week, we’ll welcome golf enthusiasts from around the world back to Sea Island for the second McGladrey Classic. I’m particularly excited this year to have Matt Stoner, winner of Caddie Quest (a contest for employees of title sponsor McGladrey) caddying for me during the RSM International Pro-Am Wed., Oct. 12. Fellow Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is equally excited to have the winner of the nationwide Caddie for Love contest caddying for him that same day.

We’ll wrap up the afternoon of the Twelfth with a kids putting contest, and will end the evening with a concert by Darius Rucker. It’ll be a busy but fun day – just one of many during the tournament. A few other tournament highlights include a Pro-Am party at Davis and Robin Love’s home, a trick shot show by Chuck “The Hit Man” Hiter and a clinic by Nancy Lopez. We’ll end the week with presentation of The McGladrey Classic trophy to winner on the 18th green.

If you can’t make it in person, I hope you’ll tune in to the Golf Channel for live coverage of The McGladrey Classic, and to see the beautiful place I call home – Sea Island! (You can also check back here for daily updates from the tournament throughout the event.)

The Second McGladrey Classic is Almost a Reality!

The PGA TOUR Fall Series is underway, which means that The McGladrey Classic is right around the corner, and course set-up is in high gear. We’re looking forward to returning to Sea Island Oct. 10 – 16, and are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will be as spectacular as it was during last year’s inaugural event.

In the meantime, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas is this week. After Vegas, things move to the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California, for the Frys.com Open. From there, it’s back to the East Coast with The McGladrey Classic! (The Series will close out with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.)

If you’re planning to join us at Sea Island, you might want to check out what Scott McQuade, new president and CEO of the Golden Isles Convention and Visitors Bureau, has to say about his “Top 9 activities to experience in the Golden Isles” during tournament week for The McGladrey Classic. From shopping to paddle boarding to enjoying The Lodge’s famous “back-door lemonade,” Scott shares his favorites about the island.

Only 10 more days until The McGladrey Classic… Player commitments to date include Jonathan Byrd, Ricky Barnes, Angel Cabrera, Stewart Cink, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Lucas Glover, David Toms, Boo Weekley, Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III, Heath Slocum (winner of the inaugural McGladrey Classic) and many other PGA TOUR players. View the complete roster here.

Look forward to seeing you at Sea Island!

17 days and counting until the 2011 McGladrey Classic!

It’s hard to believe that the second McGladrey Classic is just a little more than two weeks away. We’re looking forward to bringing you daily updates from Sea Island right here on the McGladrey Golf Blog. We’ll also be sharing updates via Twitter (@McGladrey), Facebook (McGladrey News), and, occasionally, via LinkedIn (McGladrey). Connect with us to stay up-to-the-minute with The McGladrey Classic the week of Oct. 10. And if there’s anything in particular you’d like for us to share from the event, just let us know.

We’re also looking forward to meeting Caddie for Love winner Claudio Kawecki, and Matt Stoner who won our employee version of the contest, Caddie Quest. Claudio will caddie for Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III during the Oct. 12. RSM International Pro-Am, while Matt will caddie for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson.

Oct. 12 will also be the day for the 2011 Youth Day presented by Southeast Georgia Health System, when children aged 17 and younger will be admitted free of charge. Special activities will include a Chuck “The Hit Man” Hiter Show at 4 p.m., ET, followed by a charity putting contest at 5 p.m. The evening will wrap up with a concert by Darius Rucker.

Congratulations and Welcome to The McGladrey Classic!

Today, we'd like to share with you a special guest post by Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, who has some exciting news to share about our recent Caddie for Love contest. Keep reading to hear what he has to say…

It’s hard to believe that nearly a year has gone by since the inaugural McGladrey Classic, and that the second event is less than 30 days away (Oct. 10-16). I look forward to welcoming golf fans from around the world to the event, and to my beautiful home of Sea Island.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate a couple of lucky golf enthusiasts: Claudio Kawecki, winner of the nationwide Caddie for Love contest, and Matt Stoner, winner of Caddie Quest, an internal contest for McGladrey employees. Claudio will join us at the Pro-Am as my caddie, and Matt will caddie for fellow Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson. Zach and I are looking forward to benefiting from their enthusiasm for and knowledge of the game!

The Power of Patience and Perseverance, by Chris DiMarco

The McGladrey Classic is less than one short month away, and we're in high-gear preparing for the tournament. Today, we'd like to share with you a special guest post by Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco. To enjoy his message about patience and perserverance, keep reading...

Whether you are a weekend golfer or a PGA TOUR veteran like me, you know that golf can be a humbling game requiring patience, perseverance and a keen understanding of the elements of your game that you can control. In many ways patience, perseverance and understanding are traits that led me to my relationship with McGladrey and characteristics that you should always look for in a business partner — whether it’s your caddie, coach, trainer, doctor, manager or even an accountant.

An example on a day-to-day level would be a windy day on the golf course. If you attack the course without patience, you may be rewarded from time to time with a wind-aided shot, but more often than not you will find yourself in the rough, in a hazard or out of bounds. Patient golfers not only know when to play conservatively, but also when an aggressive, wind-aided play may reward them. Perseverance is also important on the golf course. Even for us pros on our best days, the ball doesn’t always go where we want it to go. You need to be mentally tough to recover from a bad shot and not let it affect your next shot.

Since I turned pro, my patience has been tested on many occasions, and perseverance was an important specific lesson for me to learn early in my career. The demanding professional golf schedule challenged me to prepare and practice better than I ever had before and forced me to be patient with my body, specifically when my body wasn’t feeling up to par, or even when I’ve had to play through some pain.

On the business front, the game of golf and the demands of being successful at it have taught me a valuable lesson over time. I now know that not every day is going to lead to record profits and record returns, but as long as you stick to your fundamentals and core values and surround yourself with the right partners, like McGladrey, you’ll know when to exercise patience, and you’ll persevere through anything that the golf course, the business world or life throws at you.

An Update from Sea Island - Home of The McGladrey Classic

Earlier this week, we hosted local reporters and journalists, Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia representatives and other special guests for The McGladrey Classic Media Day at Sea Island. It’s always great to visit Sea Island, and this trip was no exception. The Southern Hospitality experienced while on the island is second-to-none, and catching up with Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III is always a pleasure.

Below are a few things we learned and/or realized during this week’s McGladrey Classic Media Day at Sea Island:

• The 2011 McGladrey Classic is one short month away! (Somehow, it seemed further out than that.)
• A professional golfer’s workout plan is serious business – many hit the gym at 4:30 a.m. to get their work-out in before their day begins.
• VIP tickets are sold out, but general tickets are still available for the Oct. 12 Darius Rucker concert! Get yours before they run out.
• The Caddie for Love winner will be announced NEXT WEEK (Sept. 15)! Again…we knew the date, but it seems as if we just launched the contest.
• In addition to Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia, this year’s McGladrey Classic will also benefit a number of other local charitable organizations in the Sea Island area. Our favorite aspect of the event is giving back to the community.

Check back next week for another update – and to learn which lucky golf fan will have the opportunity of a lifetime to caddie for Davis Love III during the 2011 McGladrey Classic!

Happy Labor Day from Team McGladrey!

We’re looking forward to the upcoming holiday weekend, but we’ll be cutting it a bit short for a quick trip to Sea Island to meet with sports writers and local media outlets to give them an overview of what they can expect during this year’s McGladrey Classic. Look for updates from there on Twitter and Facebook.

Two short weeks from today (Thurs., Sept. 15), we’ll announce the first ever Caddie for Love winner, which will give one lucky golf enthusiast the opportunity to caddie for Team McGladrey Member and 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III at The McGladrey Classic Pro-Am next month.

We’ll also announce the winner of Caddie Quest, which will give one lucky RSM McGladrey or McGladrey & Pullen (We operate together under the McGladrey brand.) employee the chance to caddie for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson on Wed. Oct. 12 in the Pro-Am. We’re looking forward to announcing the winners, and to seeing them at Sea Island in a few weeks.

During The McGladrey Classic, we’ll post daily updates here to our blog, as well as to Twitter - and Facebook. We plan to have our contest winners post first-hand accounts from the event, and we’ll share updates from the Darius Rucker (formerly with Hootie and the Blowfish) concert scheduled for Wed., Oct. 12. Between now and then, though, we’ll continue to post weekly updates here on our golf blog, including one or two special guest posts. (We’re not going to “spill the beans” yet – you’ll need to check back next week to find out who will be making a guest appearance.)

We hope you’ll follow along, and join the conversation from The McGladrey Classic!

45 Days and Counting ’Til The McGladrey Classic!

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco was in the great state of North Carolina earlier this week (where we felt the earth move under our feet due to an unprecedented earthquake), and he also celebrated a birthday. Happy Birthday, Chris – we hope your special day was great!

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is playing in the CN Canadian Women’s Open at Hillsdale Golf & Country Club in Mirabel, Quebec this week. (She says it’s beautiful there. Wish we could join her.)

Another beautiful course, Diamante Dunes in Cabo San Lucas, which is a private championship links-style course designed by none other than Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III, was recently named to the Top 100 courses in the world (#58). Congratulations – to the course and the designer, who happens to be one of our favorite TOUR players!

We’ve Got The McGladrey Classic on Our Minds!

What do Stewart Cink, Boo Weekley, Bo Van Pelt and Lucas Glover have in common with Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III (other than the fact that they’re all professional golfers, of course)? They’ve all committed early to this year’s McGladrey Classic. You can see the entire list of early commitments here. The event is less than 60 days away, so get your tickets now.

A couple of special golf enthusiasts will be joining us at Sea Island in October: The Caddie for Love winner (Don’t forget to choose YOUR favorite today! While voting for Caddie Quest is open to McGladrey employees only, you can check out the top contestants’ videos on YouTube. They’re worth watching!

And speaking of McGladrey employees, our Chief Marketing Officer Mark Audino recently posted about his experience at the inaugural McGladrey Classic on the McGladrey Classic website. Read it here to learn about how the event originated, and about Mark’s unique experience playing with Rocco Mediate.

We’ll close this week with best wishes to, Zach and Davis as they play during this week’s 93rd PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John’s Creek, Georgia. We’re pulling for you, guys!

Gearing Up for The McGladrey Classic

After taking a week off to enjoy the surf, sun and sand, we’re now back and are in high-gear planning for the 2011 McGladrey Classic. Things are shaping up nicely with three of the Top 10 finishers at RBC Canadian Open – Kris Blanks, Bo Van Pelt and Spencer Levin – committing early. Of course, that’s in addition to our very own Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III, as well as many other golfing greats who plan to join us at Sea Island in October (10 – 16). We hope to see you there, too! Get your tickets now, and while you’re at it, don’t forget to order your tickets to see Darius Rucker while you’re there. This Oct. 12 show will be one you won’t want to miss!

And speaking of Sea Island, we were pleased to hear that beautiful Sea Island was listed as one of nine best golf resorts for couples. Check it out.

We were also pleased that so many golfing greats, including Davis Love III, Rickie Fowler, Stewart Cink and others participated in the first annual Zach Johnson Charity Pro-Am Event this week. You can read a nice article about Davis’ participation here.

Congratulations, too, to the top 20 Caddie for Love contestants! Video voting teed off Aug. 2 and runs through Aug. 26. If you haven’t already voted for your choice, do it now at www.caddieforlove.com. (Heck, even if you HAVE already voted, you can do it again – one vote per day, please.) Smashing Successes

We’d like to start this week’s update by making you aware of a recent article about The McGladrey Classic by Dave Jordan, sports editor with The Brunswick News. Dave’s article says that the Seaside Course on St. Simons Island was “Masters-like” for the inaugural McGladrey Classic, and says that the event, as a whole was a “smashing success.” (He even took credit for last year’s incredible weather, and said he’ll do the same this year, assuming the weather is equally as amazing. Here’s to hoping that will be the case, and thanks in advance for that, Dave!)

Last week, we announced that Platinum-selling country singer Darius Rucker will perform a concert during this year’s event (Wed., Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., ET). Well…tickets are now on sale. Get yours today. And while you’re getting your concert tickets, go ahead and get your tournament tickets. This year’s field is shaping up to be impressive. You won’t want to miss what’s sure to be our second annual “smashing success!”

This week, congratulations go out to Peter Ferraro, winner of Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco’s “Royal Challenge!”

Also this week, Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is in France for the Evian Masters (July 21 – 24), while Team McGladrey members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson are playing in the CVS Caremark Charity Classic (July 19 – 21) at Rhode Island Country Club. And coming soon…the first ever Zach Johnson Foundation Classic will tee off in Cedar Rapids on Aug. 1 at Elmcrest Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament will go to some of Zach’s favorite area nonprofits.

Next week, we’ll be taking some time off for a little vacation (which we hope will be yet another…you guessed it…“smashing success”). Please check back with us for our next update on Aug. 4.

Darius Rucker to Perform at The McGladrey Classic, Plus Other News from the World of Golf

Lots of exciting events and announcements this week in the world of golf! First, we’d like to start by congratulating Steve Stricker on winning the 2011 John Deere Classic. This made Steve just the 10th golfer since World War II to win a tournament three straight times, joining an elite group that includes Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Tom Watson, Ben Hogan and Johnny Miller. If you’d like to join us in congratulating Steve, just leave your comments here, and we’ll pass them along.

Earlier this week, we were thrilled to announce that platinum-selling singer Darius Rucker, formerly lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, will perform at The McGladrey Classic the evening of October 12! Tickets to The McGladrey Classic (Oct. 10 – 16) are on sale now. Concert tickets will go on sale in the coming weeks. For more information about the concert and other tournament week activities, visit www.mcgladreyclassic.com.

Also earlier this week, we were honored that The McGladrey Classic, was selected by Elegant Island Living readers as the Special Event of 2011. We appreciate the southern hospitality shown by everyone at Sea Island during last fall’s inaugural event, and look forward to returning in October!

The third major of the year is underway and Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III are playing in The Open Championship this week at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich England and, of course, we’re pulling for them!

We close this week’s post by acknowledging the passing of a great supporter of the game of golf. Rest in peace, former First Lady, honorary LPGA TOUR member and 25-year tournament host Betty Ford. You will be missed.

Team McGladrey Wants YOU!

At the risk of repeating ourselves, we’d like to start this week’s update by reminding our readers of the upcoming July 10 deadline for voting for your favorite Caddie for Love contestant. Don’t miss your chance to let us know who you think should win this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go inside the ropes with Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III at The McGladrey Classic in October. Cast your vote now!

After you cast you Caddie for Love vote, take a minute or two to sign up to volunteer for this year’s McGladrey Classic. (Hard to believe it’s less than three months away!) In addition to Davis, Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson played in last year’s inaugural tournament, along with many other golfing greats, including last year’s winner, Heath Slocum.

This year’s players field is shaping up to be equally as impressive, so we hope you’ll join us for the fun, and that legendary Sea Island hospitality (not to mention the great food)!

Team McGladrey members Davis, Chris and Zach are all playing in the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL this week, where, for the second consecutive year, members of the PGA TOUR Wives Association supported local families by distributing food (an impressive 12,000 pounds, to be exact) through the River Bend Foodbank Mobile Food Pantry and the John Deere Classic Birdies for Charity program. They also presented a check for $2,000 to the food bank. We love to the fact that the game of golf does so much for the community!

Speaking of the community, we’re proud to support Special Olympics and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia through The McGladrey Classic. We just received pictures of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia’s new bus, which proudly displays The McGladrey Classic and Davis Love Foundation logos. We've included a photo at the top of this post. What do you think?

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is playing this week in the U.S. Women’s Open. Check out the twitpic she posted of her cool new red-white-and-blue U.S. Open bag. Pretty patriotic!

That’s it for this week’s update. We hope you’ll check back next week.

Happy Fourth of July from Team McGladrey!

With the holiday weekend approaching, we’re getting ready for the fireworks and fun time with family and friends, and hope you’re doing the same.

Before you hit the road for your holiday travels, though, remember to cast your vote for the person you want to caddie for Davis Love III at The McGladrey Classic at Sea Island this October. We’re thrilled that more than 11,500 golf enthusiasts registered for a chance to “Caddie for Love.” Nearly 2,000 have already cast their votes. Don’t miss YOUR chance to let us know who you think should go inside the ropes with Davis this fall. It’s time to vote! (The deadline for voting is Sun., July 10.)

Speaking of the upcoming holiday, next week, Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis will be playing in the U.S. Women’s Open at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (July 4 – 10), where she’ll be joined by Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Christina Kim, Brittany Lincicome and other LPGA golfing greats. Natalie will be signing autographs in the Merchandise Pavilion at 1 p.m. Wed., July 6, so be sure to stop by to see her if you’re there.

And while it’s not exactly related to the Fourth, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco stopped at a great pizza place earlier this week while driving to Philly. Being the pizza hounds that we are, we’re hoping that pizza will show up on one of our menus this coming holiday weekend. (So, it’s not as American as baseball, hotdogs and apple pie…pizza has become an American favorite, hasn’t it?) And if we’re ever headed to Philly, we’ll likely be making a lunch or dinner stop along the way. Want to know the name of the restaurant? Check out Chris’ Twitter pic.

How will YOU be celebrating the Fourth of July weekend? Whatever you do, we hope it’s happy and safe!

Caddie for Love Entries Due June 25; Congrats to Zach Johnson & Davis Love III!

First things first…the deadline for Caddie for Love is quickly approaching. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to go inside the ropes with Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III! More than 10,000 have entered for their chance to win, but there’s still time for you to submit your entry. Do it now before the June 25 deadline!

Speaking of Davis, we were thrilled when he and Morgan Pressel finished second at the CVS Caremark Charity Classic earlier this week, and ecstatic when Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar won with a record-setting two-round total of 24-under-par 118 at the Rhode Island Country Club! (The previous record in the best-ball format was 119 set in 2001.) Needless to say, this was a VERY exciting week for us here at McGladrey! You can watch highlights from the event here.

Zach and Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco are playing this week in the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Unfortunately, as of this writing, play has been suspended due to inclement weather. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that things clear up, and play resumes. We’re checking the PGA TOUR website regularly for updates.

Finally, we’d like to give a nod to our friends with WaggleRoom.com for the recent story about Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis – her charitable work and her work on behalf of the LPGA. Nicely done. You can read it here. Natalie, by the way, is playing in the Wegmans LPGA Championship at Locust Hill Country Club in New York. You can track her progress on the LPGA’s live leaderboard.

We’re wrapping up this week by circling back to Caddie for Love. Remember…You can vote for your favorite contestant beginning Sun., June 26. If you’ve entered, vote for yourself, and get your friends to cast their votes, as well. (Hopefully, they’ll vote for YOU.) If you don’t plan to enter, but you’d like to help decide on the winner, you can cast your vote, too. The deadline for voting is July 10. Who do you want to win? Cast your vote at www.caddieforlove.com.

Happy Father's Day from Team McGladrey!

What a great week!

We started with a golf charity event in the McGladrey Boston office, which raised $150,000 to benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts, Boys & Girls Club of Boston and the McGladrey Foundation. Team McGladrey Members Natalie Gulbis and Chris DiMarco joined us to conduct clinics and to help celebrate. Thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success!

The Caddie for Love contest is going strong, with more than 6,800 verified registrants as of June 15! If you haven’t entered for your chance to win, do it now, as the June 25 deadline is quickly approaching! The lucky winner will receive airfare and hotel accommodations for two at beautiful Sea Island, and will get to go behind the ropes with Team McGladrey Member and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III. Why shouldn’t this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity be yours? Enter at www.caddieforlove.com.

And to make the week even better, Davis and fellow Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson are playing the U.S. Open at the Congressional Country Club in beautiful Bethesda, Maryland.

Also, since we’re wrapping up this week with Father’s Day, we wanted to remind you that, in honor of that special day, the Davis Love Foundation is offering a unique package for The McGladrey Classic. The Father’s Day package can be purchased between now and June 19, and includes two general admission tournament tickets, a dozen Bridgestone golf balls, an AHEAD golf cap and a POLO golf shirt, each with The McGladrey Classic logo. Half of the daily and weekly ticket proceeds go directly to charity through The McGladrey Classic “Tix 4 Kids” program, so it’s a great deal AND a great way to give back to the community. To get YOUR special McGladrey Classic Father’s Day package, go here.

Finally, we’ve run across a bit of an unconventional YouTube video this week, featuring Ben Crane, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan who collaborated on “Oh Oh Oh,” their first release from their teenybopper spoof band, Golf Boys. It’s gone quite viral – having received more than 600,000 views to date – so you might have already seen it, but, if not, take a look. It’ll make your Father’s Day! The best part? Proceeds from the single’s sales on iTunes will go to charity.

Until next week…

Happy Memorial Day from Team McGladrey!

This coming long weekend marks an important occasion in American history – Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in military service. First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars. On behalf of Team McGladrey, we’d like to encourage you to take time out of your holiday activities to remember those who have given so much to make our country great.

And now for an update from Team McGladrey:

Many of you probably recall that Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis was on the 2009 season of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. While she didn’t win, she and her team (Athena) were pleased to be able to raise funds for those in need through their cupcake sales. This year, Natalie was happy to see John Rich win, raising half a million dollars for St. Jude’s Hospital. Next week, Natalie will play in the ShopRite LPGA Classic (June 3-5) at the Seaview, Bay Course in Galloway, NJ.

Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson set off a bit of a firestorm on Twitter last week with his ranking of Mexican food chains. Which do you think is his favorite? You can find out by following him on Twitter. What’s YOUR favorite Mexican food chain?

You know how Google Alerts sometimes send you updates about postings that aren’t so current? This week, we got one from 2004 – it’s a YouTube video of Team Chris DiMarco’s hole-in-one from the 2004 Masters. Nice! You can check it out here. For a more recent peak at Chris’s activities, check out this photo of him hitting his tee shot on the 17th hole during the British Open Championship Qualifying Competition at Gleaneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas.

Speaking of qualifying, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III qualified earlier this week during the International Final Qualifying (IFQ) America, for the British Open Championship being played this summer at Royal St. George’s. This will be Davis’ 25th consecutive start in golf’s oldest major championship. We’re so proud!

Next week, be on the lookout for a special announcement from Davis and McGladrey about a unique contest we’re partnering to sponsor. We’re continuing to finalize plans this week, and can’t wait to tell you all about it! Check back here, like us on Facebook and/or follow us on Twitter to make sure you’re one of the first to know about this fun contest. You’ll be glad you did!

In the meantime, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

A Team McGladrey Update and an Exciting Contest Coming Soon!

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is playing this week in the Sybase Match Play Championship at Hamilton Farms Golf Club in New Jersey. We hear they ended Wednesday with a killer clam bake party at the course, and that some pretty lively golf stories from the day were shared. Wish we could have been there!

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco posted an update on his Facebook page this week about a recent digital press conference. Check it out! This week, he’s playing in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, along with fellow Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III.

Speaking of Davis, he shared a few behind-the-scenes tips this week for getting out of the bunker; see what he had to say here.

Back here at the office, we’ve been busy planning for an upcoming contest with Davis that you won’t want to miss. We can’t “spill the beans” just yet, but will share the details on June 2. Check back here, follow us on Twitter and/or like McGladrey News on Facebook to make sure you have a chance to enter to win! Trust us…the grand prize will be SO worth it!

Nothing Could Be Finer!

Since the members of the McGladrey sports marketing team are based out of our firm’s Charlotte office, you can imagine how much we’re enjoying this week’s Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Club just a few short miles from our office. And we’re even MORE excited to have three members of Team McGladrey – Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III – in town for the tournament! (Makes us feel a bit like a mother hen having most of her chickens in the nest.)

With the exception of a downpour Tuesday night, the weather has been SPECTACULAR, and is forecast to be that way through the weekend. As the song goes, “Nothing could be finer!”

We were fortunate enough to grab a bit of Davis’s time off the course to record a special message from him regarding the upcoming “Caddie for Love” contest, which will give one lucky golf enthusiast a chance to caddie for Davis during The McGladrey Classic Pro-Am in Sea Island on October 12. The winner will also be invited as an honored guest to the pairings party, which will be held at Davis’ home the night before. Check back here regularly for details, which will be shared soon.

And speaking of The McGladrey Classic, tickets are now available for purchase at www.mcgladreyclassic.com. If you order yours today or tomorrow, you’ll receive a $25 merchandise credit so if you plan on going, now’s the time to get those tickets!

An Update on Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco committed earlier this week to the 2011 Traveler’s Championship, which will mark his 11th appearance at the event June 20-26 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT. In case you missed this week’s announcement, you can find the tournament press release here.

And speaking of Chris, he is in New Orleans this week for the Zurich Classic, where he says he’ll likely gain five to 10 pounds due to all of city’s infamous good food.

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis and her family continued their annual making of traditional Latvian Easter eggs this past weekend. Check out Natalie’s twitpic to see these works of art. This week, she’s playing at the Avnet LPGA Classic at the Robert Trent Jones course in Mobile Alabama. (We hear she made it to the course despite a flat tire on her rental.)

Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson posted another adorable picture of his son Will (along with Will’s friend Taylor) on Twitter this week. Okay, let’s say it together now…Awwwww!

Also this week, Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III had some very kind words to say about working with McGladrey. We’ve posted an audio clip here on our blog. Take a listen, and let us know what you think.

Finally, we’d like to remind you that tickets for the 2011 McGladrey Classic are now available. If you purchase your tickets between now and May 6, you’ll receive a $25 merchandise gift card. To get your tickets – and your credit – go to www.mcgladreyclassic.com.

Spring + Team McGladrey = Commercials, Pool Parties and…Golf!

Earlier this week, we were at Sea Island with Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III filming a new commercial featuring Davis, which is scheduled to air on The Golf Channel beginning in June. Keep an eye out for it.

And speaking of Davis, we hear that he – and a number of other PGA TOUR Professionals, including Stewart Cink are very “comfortable in their own skin.” Check out this video to hear what Davis has to say about it.

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis was in her home town of Las Vegas earlier this week when she hosted a pool party at The Trump Las Vegas pool. Next week? She’s heading to Alabama to join other LPGA TOUR Professionals for the Avnet LPGA Classic at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and Magnolia Cove, April 25 through May 1. We’ll be rooting for you, Natalie!

Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III are in Hilton Head this week for the 43rd annual Heritage Classic at the Harbour Town Golf Links. We hear that defending champion Jim Furyk used a traditional hickory golf club to tee off into the Calibogue Sound in unison with a cannon shot. We wish we could have been there for that, but we’ll be pulling for our Team McGladrey members from afar!

Congratulations Times Two, and Good “Stuff” All Around

Congratulations to 26-year-old South African Charl Schwartzel who earned the coveted green jacket at The Masters this past weekend – the first player ever to finish with four straight birdies to win!

Congratulations, too, to Nathan Lambert, this year’s winner of Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco’s Facebook contest, the Augusta Challenge . Nathan received his choice of an autographed flag from Augusta or a new PING golf driver. (We haven’t heard yet which he chose but, either way, he got a pretty nice prize, huh?)

While you’re here on our blog, listen to the recent audio clip of Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson on Atlanta’s Barnhart & Durham Show by clicking on that to the right of this update. You won’t want to miss what he has to say about our upcoming “Caddy for Love” contest, which will give one lucky winner the opportunity to spend four or five hours on the golf course with Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III during The McGladrey Classic this October. And, as an added bonus, the winner will also get to attend the event pairings party at Davis’ beautiful Sea Island home, as well as other related festivities. More details will be shared in May.

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis participated in a Rally for a Cure event at Lake Las Vegas this week to benefit breast cancer research. Take a look at the Twitpic she posted from the event’s pink luncheon.

A Kick-off Done Right…The 2011 McGladrey Classic is right around the corner

Throw in three popular PGA TOUR professionals, one of them last year’s champion, add McGladrey executives and some participants from the local Boys & Girls Clubs and Special Olympics, include 100+ invited guests and you have the makings of an extremely successful launch for the 2011 McGladrey Classic.

It was a standing room only crowd at Sea Island Resort on Monday, March, 28 as McGladrey and the Davis Love Foundation officially kicked off ticket sales and sponsorship opportunities for this year’s McGladrey Classic, being held October 10-16.

RSM McGladrey President CE Andrews, McGladrey & Pullen’s Managing Director Dave Scudder and Chief Marketing Officer Mark Audino were joined by Tournament host and Team McGladrey member Davis Love III, Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson and defending champion Heath Slocum to welcome the high octane community guests on hand to hear about what’s in store for this year’s tournament.

“Thank you, McGladrey, for doing a lot for golf and doing a lot for charity,” said Davis Love III during his opening remarks. “Last year’s success will be hard to beat, but we are going to keep going and keep doing more for the community and charities.”

“Going into Year Two, we remain committed and focused on making The McGladrey Classic the highlight of the entire PGA TOUR,” said C.E. Andrews. “We set out to host an event that provided our partners with a great opportunity to enhance relationships with our clients and prospects, and to strengthen our brand regionally, internationally, and everything in between. We accomplished that and then some.”

Andrews received a round of applause when he announced a new contest McGladrey will sponsor beginning in late May. Called “Caddie for Love,” one lucky golf enthusiast who wins the contest will get the chance to caddie for Davis during The McGladrey Classic Pro-Am on October 12. The winner will also be invited as an honored guest to the pairings party held at Davis’ home the night before. “Who wouldn’t want the chance to say they caddied for the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain,” Andrews asked.

The official “Caddie for Love” contest website will launch on May 23. You can follow the contest and vote for who you believe should be the final choice. Look for more information right here on the blog and on Twitter, Facebook and on www.mcgladrey.com.

Representatives from Special Olympics and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia were on hand to receive the $75,000 check awarded to each charity from the inaugural McGladrey Classic. Then, the kids got a special treat and a chance to compete in Wii golf on teams led by Davis, Zach and Heath. The winners – Davis’ team! Let’s hope this is a harbinger of good things to come for the U.S. in the next Ryder Cup.

The McGladrey Classic Returns to Sea Island

We’re just days away now from our next event at Sea Island! Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III (both of whom are Sea Island residents) and Heath Slocum (winner of the inaugural McGladrey Classic) will be joining us and RSM McGladrey President C.E. Andrews to present checks for funds raised during last year’s event to Special Olympics and the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia. Representatives from both nonprofits will be on-hand to accept the donations on behalf of their organizations, and to help celebrate an exciting announcement that Davis will make on March 28. We’ll be sharing updates from the event via Twitter (@McGladrey) – hope you’re following us so you can hear the “breaking news!”

As usual, Team McGladrey members have been busy this past week, and have lots planned over the coming week. Here’s a quick peek at a few of the highlights:

Zach Johnson and his family enjoyed a few days at Universal Studios over spring break last week, and they snapped on picture of a “pooped” son Will that we just have to share – you can find it here.

Zach, along with fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco, are joining 118 other PGA TOUR professionals including Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia, for the 2011 Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando. (We hear that Chris is particularly excited to be playing the course, which is one of his favorites, and even more excited that he’ll be able to sleep in his own bed throughout the event.)

Natalie Gulbis recently attended a Fight Night charity event, and posted this nice twitpic of her and some of her LPGA TOUR friends on Twitter.

REMINDER: You can now sign up for volunteer opportunities at this year’s McGladrey Classic at Sea Island in October. Interested? Do it now! This year’s event is already shaping up to be every bit as “top notch” as the inaugural event.

This Week with Team McGladrey

While he isn't a member of Team McGladrey, we'd like to begin this week's update by congratulating Rory Sabbatini for earning his sixth PGA TOUR win at The Honda Classic last weekend!

This week, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is playing in the Puerto Rico Open (March 7 – 13) at the Trump International Golf Club. Other PGA TOUR players participating include Stewart Cink, Angel Cabrera, John Daly and Boo Weekley.

And speaking of Chris, apparently his 15-year-old son Cristian is becoming quite the golfer, as well. In fact, Chris tweeted this week that Cristian (who is a “leftie,” by the way) is better than he was at that age.

Also this week, Team McGladrey Member Natalie was treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the garage by Kevin Harvick’s Bud Team at the NASCAR race in Las Vegas. Take a look. Her next tournament? The R.R. Donnelley Founders Cup at the Wildfire Golf Club at the J.W. Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa.

Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson is competing this week at the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral in Doral, Florida. We wish him the best of luck!

And Team McGladrey Member Davis Love reminded his Twitter followers this week that they can purchase tickets for a chance to win his Orange County Chopper. Learn more. Ride safely!

Finally, we were excited to hear this week that the 2014 Special Olympics USA National Competition was awarded to Princeton, New Jersey. Congratulations, New Jersey, on hosting such a wonderful event, and a great team of athletes!
