A Congratulatory Christmas...To and From Team McGladrey!

We have a lot to celebrate this holiday season, not the least of which are a few recent achievements by Team McGladrey members and others. Congratulations to:

• Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III for being ranked one of the “Top 100 Players to Watch” in 2011.
• Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter for their two-stroke win at this year’s Shark Shootout! Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco and his teammate for the event, Anthony Kim, tied for third, so we extend our congratulations to them as well.
• Chris DiMarco and his wife Amy on the celebration of their wedding anniversary earlier this week.
• Stuart Appleby for being voted “Comeback Player of 2010” by PGA TOUR players.
• Team McGladrey Zach Johnson who stayed at #20 in the world golf rankings this week. By the way, there’s a great story about Zach in a recent issue of the DesMoinesRegister.com. You can read it here.
• Annika Sorenstam on the announcement of her second pregnancy. The new arrival is expected in early summer 2011.

We’d like to close this week’s post by thanking Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III for making a very sick little boy’s day with their words of encouragement and offers to join them for future golf, hunting or fishing outings. You can learn more about Dominick here.

We’ll be taking a brief break from the golf blog to spend time with family and friends over the next couple of weeks, and hope you’re able to do the same. Please check back here in January for our next update, and to get the “latest and the greatest” on the 2011 McGladrey Classic (Oct. 10-16).

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Team McGladrey Keeps on Keepin' On...

Well, it’s another week closer to the holidays, and Team McGladrey members are out-and-about, as usual. Here’s a quick recap of their activities for the week:

Chris DiMarco is teaming up with Anthony Kim for this week’s Shark Shootout at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort’s Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida. We understand the Pro-Am was delayed due to a brief downpour, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for beautiful weather throughout the weekend.

Natalie Gulbis took a behind-the-scenes tour of a new show on The Golf Channel. You can get a sneak peek here.

Zach Johnson celebrated a night on the town with his eldest during a “Decorate with Dad” event at his son Will’s school where, we hear, he ate more than he decorated. You can see the ADORABLE picture here, and leave a comment for Zach about how “sweet” it is…

We haven’t caught up with Davis Love III this week, but have seen a LOT of Twitter chatter about his move to Bridgestone. What do you think about the change?

The Holidays are in Full Swing for Team McGladrey

With the holiday season in full swing, you might think that Team McGladrey would be taking some time off, but…nothing could be further from the truth.

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis helped serve Thanksgiving dinner to about 1,000 people from the Boys and Girls Club last week at Pieros Italian Restaurant in Las Vegas. (View one of Natalie’s Twitpics from the event here.) This week, she’s playing in the LPGA TOUR Championship at Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando (Dec. 2 through 5). Six of the amazing players in this tournament – Jiyai Shin, Suzann Pettersen, Yani Tseng, Na Yeon Choi, Ai Miyazato and Cristie Kerr – reportedly have a shot at ending the season with the #1 ranking. Who are you pulling for?

Also this week: Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is joining Tiger Woods, Paul Casey, Stewart Cink, Bubba Watson and other PGA TOUR professionals at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California for the Chevron World Challenge (Nov. 30 – Dec. 5). You can tune into The Golf Channel Thursday and Friday and into NBC Saturday and Sunday afternoons to watch.

Of course, this week’s golf events will face some stiff competition for viewership with college football Saturday (We know Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is pulling for the Gamecocks so he can head to one of his favorite places – New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.) and NFL Sunday. We plan to have a couple of TVs on while we’re listening to holiday music while decorating our tree this weekend. What are your plans?

Giving Thanks

There’s a chill in the air, and the holidays are right around the corner so our thoughts naturally turn to giving thanks.

We’ll be taking a break next week to celebrate our blessings with family and friends, and we hope you’ll have an opportunity to do the same. We didn’t want to let this week pass, though, without thanking you, our readers, for keeping up with The McGladrey Classic and Team McGladrey activities here on the McGladrey golf blog, and for sharing your comments, suggestions and questions. We appreciate you, and hope you’ll continue reading our blog over the holidays and the coming year.

This year has brought many other things for which we’re thankful, as well – a few of those include:

• Team McGladrey members LPGA TOUR Professional Natalie Gulbis and PGA TOUR Professionals Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III. Their understanding of the importance of giving back to the community mirrors McGladrey’s own commitment, and the professionalism with which they represent our firm is greatly appreciated by the entire McGladrey team.
• The teams at Sea Island, the PGA TOUR and the Davis Love Foundation, along with the 1,200 volunteers who made the first McGladrey Classic such a huge success – it was truly a group effort.
• And last but by no means the least – the healthy arrival of twin girls for our Senior Director of Sports Marketing Ricki Lasky whom, we know, will be even more thankful when the girls begin sleeping through the night!

Enjoy the upcoming holiday, and check back here December 2 for our next update.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Golfing for and with Kids

Congratulations to the PGA TOUR team of Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Boo Weekley on winning the 2010 Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge at the Rio Secca Golf Club in Nevada earlier this week!

The LPGA TOUR team of Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis, Cristie Kerr and Suzann Pettersen came in third this year, after winning in 2009. (Natalie and Cristie also teamed with LPGA TOUR Professional Morgan Pressel to win the event in 2007.) Of course, the real winners of this event are the children who benefit from the proceeds which go to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

This week, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is playing in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic (Nov. 11 – Nov. 14) at Disney’s Magnolia and Palm Courses in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. This will be Chris’s 14th time playing in the tournament over the course of his career and, as this particular nonprofit is one about which he feels passionate. Chris will also have a special caddy on his bag this week as his son Christian will lend his services.
Also playing in the Classic this year will be Heath Slocum, winner of the inaugural McGladrey Classic. Needless to say, we’ll be watching.

We’ll also be watching Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson’s caddy Damon Green (who tied for 12th in the first stage of Q-School) next week as he heads to TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Florida. Damon will be part of a field of 70 competing for five exempt spots on the 2011 Champions Tour.

Golfing and Giving...

This week, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is in Shanghai for the 2010 WGC-HSBC Championship, while his caddie Damon Green has spent some time at the senior circuit Q school. Best to them both!

Also this week, we learned that Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco has been paired with Anthony Kim for Greg Norman’s 22nd annual Shark Shootout scheduled for Dec. 8 – 12 at the Tiburon Golf Club in North Naples. Greg, himself, will tee it up alongside Matt Kuchar. And Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III will team up with David Duval for the tournament. All funds will benefit CureSearch for Children’s Cancer and other worthy charities. We’re proud of Chris’ and Davis’ involvement in an event that gives back so much to the community.

And speaking of the community, with the holidays quickly approaching, many of us are turning our thoughts to giving to others. RSM McGladrey and McGladrey & Pullen employees recently gave back to communities across the country through the firms’ first-ever Volunteer Day. What are some of your favorite causes, and how do you like to support your community? We’d like to hear about it.

Lots of Golfing "Treats" This Week!

We’d like to start this week’s post by congratulating Jonathan Byrd on winning the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas last week with an ace on the fourth playoff hole – that’s one for the record book! A real “treat” for us spectators.

This week, Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is playing in the LPGA Hana Bank Championship (October 29 – 30) in the Greater Seoul, South Korea area. This is after having played the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia last week and traveling to Japan for the Mizuno Classic next week (November 5 – 7). That’s a lot of frequent flier miles! As usual, we’ll be pulling for you, Natalie!

Also this week, we learned that Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco and Golf Channel’s Big Break Disney Golf winner Mike Perez will be playing in the 40th Children’s Miracle Network Classic (November 11 – 14) at Walt Disney World Resort. The tournament will be televised on The Golf Channel and, of course, we’ll be watching! Will you?

We’ll close this week’s post with wishes for a Happy Halloween to our readers. ‘Hope you get lots of treats!

Lots of "Firsts" Related to The McGladrey Classic

Fresh on the heels of the first-ever McGladrey Classic, McGladrey has two current connections to other inaugural events – both in Malaysia.

LPGA TOUR Professional and Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is there to play in the inaugural Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia (Oct. 22 – 24) at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. Upon her arrival, Natalie and fellow LPGA TOUR professionals Cristie Kerr and Michelle Wie visited the Sime Darby Medical Centre to learn about the Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF). You can learn more about the visit and about CARIF here.

Heath Slocum, winner of the inaugural McGladrey Classic, is headed to Malaysia for the inaugural CIMB Asia Pacific Classic, Malaysia next week (Oct. 28 – 31) at The MINES Resort & Golf Club. Heath will be joined by two other top finishers from The McGladrey Classic: Robert Allenby and Bill Haas. It’s being billed as a star-studded event, so you can bet we’ll be tuning in. Will you and, if so, who do you want to win?

And while it’s not necessarily a first, we’re pulling for Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco and Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III this week (Oct. 18 – 24) as they play In the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. Who are you pulling for?

Looking Back and Looking Forward

After months of anticipating and planning, it’s hard to believe that the inaugural McGladrey Classic is already behind us. Congratulations again to Heath Slocum on winning the tournament, and thank-you to all of the many partners and supporters, including the Davis Love Foundation, the PGA TOUR, the Sea Island Resort and the 1,200 volunteers who made the event a reality.

This week, we’ve been following Team McGladrey Member and LPGA TOUR Professional Natalie Gulbis and she’s traveled from Florida to California. In Florida, Natalie and fellow Team McGladrey Member PGA TOUR Professional Chris DiMarco met up with LPGA TOUR Professional and World Golf Hall of Fame Member Nancy Lopez for the 30th Nancy Lopez AIM Golf Tournament at The Villages, Florida. (See Natalie's twitpic here.) All proceeds from the event benefit AIM for the Handicapped, Inc.

Natalie also joined Cristie Kerr’s birthday celebration this week, and is now playing in the CVS Pharmacy LPGA Challenge through Sun., Oct. 17. We hope you’ll join us in rooting for her!

Moving forward, we’ll continue posting regular updates to our golf blog throughout the year, and will include guest posts from Team McGladrey members LPGA TOUR Professional Natalie Gulbis, and PGA TOUR Professionals Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III from time-to-time. We hope you’ll continue checking back in regularly to keep up on the latest with McGladrey’s golf-related activities and, of course, to hear details about the second McGladrey Classic, which we’ll begin working on soon.

In the meantime, if there is anything in particular in the world of golf that you’d like for us to address here, please let us know. We’d enjoy hearing from you, and will do our best to respond.

Congratulations to Heath Slocum - Winner of the Inaugural McGladrey Classic!

Ricki Lasky, RSM McGladrey’s senior director of sports marketing has been posting daily updates from the inaugural McGladrey Classic throughout the event. Below is her final post from Sea Island. We hope you enjoyed the event, that you’ll continue to read our golf blog throughout the year, and that you you’ll join us again next year for the second McGladrey Classic.

Yesterday, we celebrated the winner of the first-ever McGladrey Classic: Heath Slocum.

Heath was in a three-way tie for the lead in the final hour of the tournament, having led by three shots on the front nine. First , Robert Allenby blocked his tee shot into the hazard on the 18th hole and took a double bogey. Then, Davis Toms three-putted from just inside 15 feet on the 16th hole in the group ahead of Heath, giving Heath a sudden two-shot lead, allowing him a cautious bogey on the final hole to finish at 14 under 266.

Team McGladrey Member and Tournament Chair Davis Love III joined RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews and McGladrey & Pullen Managing Partner and CEO Dave Scudder on the 18th green to present The McGladrey Classic trophy to Heath. The group then joined clients and other special guests for a celebratory champagne toast at the Oak Room at The Lodge where we celebrated a “Perfect 10” on 10/10/10.

Based on feedback from our clients and guests throughout the week, the inaugural McGladrey Classic was a BIG success. On behalf of the entire team at McGladrey, I’d like to extend our appreciation to the Davis Love Foundation, Sea Island and the 1,200 volunteers who truly understood the importance of teamwork in pulling together an experience that is destined to become a tradition.

I look forward to seeing you back at Sea Island next year!

10/10/10 Makes for a "Perfect 10" at The McGladrey Classic!

Below is a recap of activities from The McGladrey Classic for Sat., Oct. 9, from RSM McGladrey's Senior Director of Sports Marketing Ricki Laskey, who is posting daily updates from Sea Island. Check back again soon for the next update.

We’re in for another day watching a perfect sport on a perfect course with perfect weather here at The McGladrey Classic – a perfect 10-10-10! Today’s highlight will, no doubt, be presentation of the hand-crafted McGladrey Classic trophy, which is currently on display at the first tee, to the winner of this inaugural event. Take our online poll to let us know who you think will win.

Yesterday, despite making his first bogey in 50 holes at Sea Island, Heath Slocum posted a third straight round of 4-under 66 on Saturday to build a one-shot lead over Joe Durant and PGA TOUR rookie Troy Merritt going into the final round.

Twenty players were separated by five shots going into the last round, including Team McGladrey Member and Tournament Chair Davis Love III, who thrilled his hometown crowd with a 65. In his typical humble fashion, Davis’ reaction at the end of the day: "I'm doing better than I expected, but you know, you're supposed to play good on your home course."

Yesterday’s activities wrapped up with an oyster roast for clients and other key guests at The Cloisters’ Rainbow Island, which provided a casual backdrop – complete with fire pits, gingham table cloths draped across wooden picnic tables and daisies in mason jars as centerpieces – for relationship building.

We’ll be broadcasting live again on the Golf Channel from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., EST today. Tune in!

Special Celebrity Sightings at Sea Island

Below is an update from The McGladrey Classic by RSM McGladrey’s Senior Director of Sports Marketing, Ricki Lasky. Ricki is blogging daily from the event, so check back regularly for the most recent updates. And take our online survey to let us know who you think will win the inaugural McGladrey Classic.

As if it isn’t enough of a thrill watching Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Davis Love III displaying their golfing prowess out on the course, our clients and other guests had the honor yesterday of being joined here at Sea Island by Jean Stephens, CEO with RSM International, a corporate sponsor of the event, and Louise Suggs, founding member of the LPGA and Hall of Fame golfer.

Jean spent some time talking with clients, and sharing information about RSM International’s global capabilities, while Louise entertained visitors with anecdotes from her days as a professional golfer and by sharing her love of Sea Island. Then, our very own C.E. Andrews participated in a live interview on the Golf Channel just after 4 p.m., EST – so…we guess that makes him a bit of a celebrity now, too!

And to top things off…all three Team McGladrey members – Chris, Zach and Davis – made the cut to continue to compete over the weekend.

Today is another sun-filled day here at Sea Island. Clients and guests are loading up on the sunscreen, and anticipating this evening’s oyster roast on Rainbow Island.

Check back in tomorrow for more from the inaugural McGladrey Classic!

Signs of the Times...and of The McGladrey Classic

Below is a recap of activities at The McGladrey Classic – from RSM McGladrey’s senior director of sports marketing Ricki Lasky. She’s updating the blog daily, so check back in with us tomorrow, as well. And remember to take our online poll to let us know who you think will win the inaugural McGladrey Classic.

What a thrill it was to see The McGladrey Classic tee off yesterday morning! And enhancing that “high,” were the numerous positive comments we received from clients and other guests as they walked the course, and shared their stories during last night’s client/potential client reception.

The white background of the McGladrey Classic signage and the underpinning used for the hospitality suites makes our logo “pop” against the green of the course – and people are noticing! Several guests commented about what a big firm McGladrey must be, based on the quality of the event, and the fact that we are literally “everywhere” here on the island. And it’s been fun watching people purchase items sporting The McGladrey Classic logo from the merchandise tent, and even more fun to see them wearing them on and around the course.

Finally, one of my favorite parts of yesterday – even though I wasn’t personally in attendance – was the players’ party for PGA TOUR professionals and their families, hosted by Robin and Davis Love III at their home. The children enjoyed a bouncing tent, and took home hats and caps featuring the McGladrey Classic logo. We’re told we’ll be getting a picture of that soon – can’t wait to see it!

Check back tomorrow for another update from beautiful Sea Island…! And tune in to the Golf Channel for live coverage each day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., EST.

Fun for All at The McGladrey Classic!

Below is an update from Ricki Lasky, senior director of sports marketing for RSM McGladrey. Ricki’s first-hand accounts from The McGladrey Classic are being featured here on our blog each day throughout the event. Check back tomorrow to hear what she has to say about the official first day of The McGladrey Classic.

It’s here! The inaugural McGladrey Classic officially began this morning with Kris Blanks, Chad Collins and Josh Teater teeing off at Seaside Course Tee #1 at 7:20 a.m. We’ll post the Top Five from the leaderboard to The McGladrey Classic landing page on our website at the end of each day, and will continue posting our first-hand account of a few of each day’s highlights here. Check back regularly for those updates.

Yesterday’s Pro-Am started off with a chilly morning as the first groups teed off but, in true Sea Island fashion, the day turned out to be bright and sunny, and many golfers returned from the course with sun-tinted cheeks, and great stories about their about their time on the course.

Without question, the highlight of the day, however, was the afternoon youth golf clinic and putting contest. The clinic featured world-renowned trick shot artist and paraplegic golfer Dennis Walters – accompanied by his dog Bucky – sharing the fundamentals of golf and golf etiquette with a large group of excited children and their parents. Following the clinic, the McGladrey Leadership Team caddied for Special Olympics athletes and children from the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia. While the golfers thoroughly enjoyed the contest, from the smiles and hoots of encouragement, it looked and sounded as if our leadership team had even more fun than the athletes!

Coverage of The McGladrey Classic begins on the Golf Channel this afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., EST, and will continue each afternoon through Sunday, October 10. Be sure to tune in!

McGladrey Clients Enjoy a Special Treat, Courtesy of Davis Love III

Below is the most recent update on activities related to The McGladrey Classic from RSM McGladrey’s Senior Director of Sports Marketing Ricki Lasky. Check back here again tomorrow for another update and, while you’re here, let us know who you think will win The McGladrey Classic by taking our online poll.

After a full day of welcoming clients and other special guests to Sea Island, we wrapped up yesterday with a pairings party at Davis Love III’s beautiful home. The generosity that Davis (as the newest member of Team McGladrey and as The McGladrey Classic tournament chairman) and his wife Robin show – through the Davis Love Foundation and through their good old southern hospitality is an inspiration. In fact, one of the centerpieces from last night was Davis’s beloved Orange County chopper, which he is raffling, with all proceeds going to the Davis Love Foundation.

Highlights from the evening included comments from RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews who talked about the fact that The McGladrey Classic is really about giving back to the community, and who thanked Davis and Robin for opening their home to create a one-of-a-kind experience for McGladrey clients.

Davis, fresh back from the Ryder Cup in Wales (His return plane literally landed on the island about an hour before the reception.), talked about his experience at the Ryder Cup, saying that it’s all about teamwork – just as it is with McGladrey and its clients. Davis illustrated the point with an entertaining story about Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson playing on the same side of a ping-pong table while Team USA was in Wales.

And today, The McGladrey Classic kicks off with the Pro-Am. Stay tuned here for updates – it promises to be an exciting few days…

Sharing Time with Clients and Friends at Sea Island

Below is RSM McGladrey’s Senior Director of Sports Marketing Ricki Lasky’s re-cap from yesterday’s activities related to The McGladrey Classic at Sea Island. Remember to check back tomorrow for her next update, and to take our online poll to let us know who you think will win the inaugural McGladrey Classic.

After another busy day of prepping for The McGladrey Classic and welcoming our first guests to the island, the day closed with an evening client reception at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace. The setting provided client servers with a relaxed setting and an opportunity to spend quality time with a few key clients – with a beautiful sunset view as the backdrop.

Highlights of the evening included comments from RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews and McGladrey & Pullen Managing Partner and CEO Dave Scudder, who welcomed clients and talked about the charitable component of The McGladrey Classic, and the importance of giving back to the community.

Other special guests included students from the Hank Haney International Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., along with their chaperone Ryley Hendry. These guests represented some of the best student golfers from around the world, and included Matt Rushton from South Africa, Nico Evangelista from the Philippines, Rica Park from Japan and Olivia Landino from Pennsylvania. After finishing this week’s classes and (for some) sitting for SATs Saturday, the students will return to enjoy the final day of The McGladrey Classic on Sunday.

What’s on tap for today? Welcoming more clients and guests, many of whom are playing the Frederica Golf Course “as we speak.” We’ll wrap up with an evening reception at Davis Love III’s home which will, no doubt, provide another perfect opportunity to further enhance relationships with our clients and potential clients.

Until tomorrow…

The McGladrey Classic Tees Off TODAY!

Today marks the third day that RSM McGladrey’s Senior Director of Sports Marketing Ricki Lasky is on-the-ground at Sea Island for the inaugural McGladrey Classic. She’s posting regular updates here on the McGladrey Golf Blog throughout the event. Check back here regularly for her behind-the-scenes take on activities related to the event.

The Sea Island team and a small contingent of McGladrey staff members spent most of the day yesterday “polishing the brass” in preparation for the inaugural McGladrey Classic, which officially tees off today, as we welcome the first wave of guests, who will be joining us for the Pro-Am (through Wednesday). Also arriving today: our very own C.E. Andrews, president and COO of RSM McGladrey and Partner and Managing Director for McGladrey & Pullen, Dave Scudder, who will take a tour of the site upon their arrival.

To ensure we were fortified for the day, our small planning team enjoyed dinner last night at Crab Daddy’s, a local restaurant known for its cinnamon butter and bread pudding. It lived up to the hype – everything was absolutely delicious, and we turned in knowing that we’d be ready for Monday.

This morning, we awakened to another spectacular day here on the island. The weather is beautiful. In fact, a local news channel extended weather forecast stated that “The Chamber of Commerce couldn’t have ordered more beautiful weather!”

The grounds crew is putting the final touches on the majestic property, and the course looks spectacular. Registration for golf professionals will be open today and tomorrow. At check-in, the pros will receive all of the information they need for the week, and will have an opportunity to play practice rounds today and tomorrow, while our guests can play the exclusive Frederica Golf Course, where Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is a member.

We’ll wind things up this evening with a reception at The Cloister’s Black Banks Terrace, which will feature a jazz trio and Rocky Patel cigars. We’ve also invited students from the Hank Haney Golf School to join us this evening, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to Sea Island.

We’ll share more information about some of the special opportunities our guests will have throughout the week, but will go ahead and let you know that one of the most unique will be a Pro-Am party tomorrow evening at Davis Love III’s home, where the pairings for Wednesday’s Pro-Am will be unveiled – quite a departure from your typical pairings parties, which are usually held at hotels or banquet rooms.

Check back tomorrow for more, and remember to take our online poll. Who do you think will win the inaugural McGladrey Classic?

The McGladrey Classic - Day 2 at Sea Island

This the second in a series of first-hand accounts of activities taking place in preparation for the inaugural McGladrey Classic - from Ricki Lasky, RSM McGladrey's senior director of sports marketing. Enjoy!

First thing this morning, I had a walk -through of the McGladrey hospitality chalet on the 18th green. We created the design for the chalet over the last several months, and I was eager to see the final product. Nestled behind the 18th green with a birds-eye view of the final hole, it will be the perfect setting to watch the final putt drop next Sunday. The d├ęcor consists of light wood panels with seating inside and a lighted McGladrey sign over the bar area. The front of the chalet is glass with doors leading out to a patio and 72 chairs for our guests to enjoy the 132 golfers that will pass through Thursday and Friday.

I spent the next few hours with tournament director, Scott Reid. With notebook in hand, we surveyed every aspect of the tournament grounds. We looked at each branding element and how it would impact the spectator. We looked at TV towers and camera angles. We went to the Golf Channel compound and discussed the broadcast and the talent that will arrive later this week. We walked through the Spectator Village, which will host bands Friday and Saturday nights, and a Barbeque Throw-down with celebrity chefs. As we rode by the 14th hole, which is located on the water, a sailboat drifted by…it felt so peaceful.

Today was also the day to get organized. We walked into our office at the Cloister to find the 100 or so boxes we have shipped over the last few weeks. With box cutter in hand, one-by- one, we opened each and organized everything by size, date, color and gender of the respective recipients. We painstakingly went through each arrival and departure time, airport transfer and tee time. It takes an amazing group of dedicated people to pull this off; thanks to the team for all their efforts!
One more day until our week is here. Lights, camera, action: The inaugural McGladrey Classic it’s going to be a memorable one!

Remember to take our online poll to let us know who you think will win!

The McGladrey Classic - Day 1 at Sea Island

Ricki Lasky, senior director of sports marketing for RSM McGladrey, is the “woman behind the scenes” responsible for every detail related to The McGladrey Classic. Ricki will be providing daily updates from Sea Island throughout the event. Check back here regularly for the “latest and the greatest” and for unique insights and perspectives on the inaugural McGladrey Classic.

As I drove closer to The Lodge and the Seaside Course yesterday (Fri., Oct. 1), a sense of calm came over me. What has been a labor of love for the past nine months is about to become a reality. The inaugural McGladrey Classic is only a few short days away. As I walked the grounds, I beamed with pride. There is a buzz in the air here at St. Simons/Sea Island. The locals see McGladrey Classic signage at every turn, VIP tickets sold out yesterday, grandstands are up and crews are working around-the-clock to put on the finishing touches. The “devil is in the details,” as they say. The main entrance, which is almost complete with its faux cobblestone and copper roof looks as if it has been here for 50 years. Trees and plants have been trucked in by the hundreds to line the walkways. The tournament staff buzzes around like bees to ensure nothing is left undone. Directional signs, driving range, parking, evacuation vehicles, media facility and 800 eager volunteers are ready to go come Monday morning.

The course itself looks incredible, so pristine, it makes a duff like me want to go out there and knock it around. Hats off to the golf course maintenance team that took such great care mowing every green and ensuring the rough is just long enough to make it interesting.

The feeling here is this is the place to be next week. The McGladrey Classic will be an experience for the golfer and non-golfer alike. At the end of the day, it will be about giving back to the community – more about that later in the week.

The field is set and we look forward to showcasing The McGladrey Classic around the world. We have an amazing week planned for our guests, which I will fill you in on daily. Please join me all week for your behind-the-scenes tour of The McGladrey Classic!

And don’t forget to let us know who you think will win by taking our online poll.

A Q&A with Davis Love III

McGladrey recently sat down with Davis Love III, assistant captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, member of Team McGladrey and host of The McGladrey Classic, to discuss what makes teams successful.

McGladrey: Davis, golf is typically an individual sport, but the Ryder Cup is such a different form of competition where team dynamics and strategy are so important. What are your thoughts about assembling and leading successful teams?

Davis Love III: For the Ryder Cup, we’re constantly looking at our players — what are each individual’s strengths, what are their personalities, and how can we put them together to give them confidence because they’re so excited about their partner and their partners on the team. Steve Stricker’s game is completely different from Tiger Woods’, but if we put those two together, we’ve seen in the past that they both excel. Other times you get a player feeling confident by putting him in a team with someone similar, because they’ll be comfortable around each other.

We’re fortunate this time that we don’t have any real issues with the guys on our team. It’s easy to match people up. We have a lot of guys that are very flexible. You want to pick guys who can play, or can be a part of any combination of teams within the team. You don’t want to pick the guy who only can play with one other guy or only can play with this one type of player, because then it limits your flexibility as a team. So we picked veterans. We picked a rookie. We picked guys that we felt we could plug into a bunch of different roles, with broad strengths, from the number one player in the world all the way down to rookie enthusiasm.

McGladrey: What about Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson, who was selected as a Captain’s pick?

Davis Love III: When we looked at the eight players on the team, we knew right away who we would pick to make our team of 12, and one of those players was obviously Zach. He’s one of the straightest drivers, one of the best putters. Zach has been one of the most consistent players over the last five or six years on the TOUR. And when you’re picking, it comes down to: who do you want on the last green, putting a putt to win the Ryder Cup for you? Who do you trust to go through their routine, to put aside all the goals and expectations and dreams of fans and the country and the Ryder Cup? Who can go through their routine and knock a putt in? And one of those guys is Zach Johnson. He’s so disciplined with his routine, with the way he approaches the game, with the way he and his caddie work together, that nothing, even the pressure of the Ryder Cup, is going to knock him off of that.

McGladrey: One of the biggest responsibilities of the captain is to pick who plays and when. What goes into those kinds of strategic decisions?

Davis Love III: I think the difficult thing is not who gets to play, it’s who doesn’t get to play. So, you have to take that into account when you’re making your pairings. The worst thing would be to not be able to fit a guy in, and all of a sudden on Saturday afternoon he hasn’t played and then the pressure’s on because he’s only got one shot at it for singles.

McGladrey: Why do you think some individuals perform at a higher level when they’re part of a team?

Davis Love III: Certainly some players do better in a team environment. It seems like over the last six or seven Ryder Cups, there have been some European players who’ve excelled beyond what you would expect them to do, especially putting-wise. Monty has always putted great in Ryder Cups; Sergio has chipped in a lot in Ryder Cups. You’ve had young rookies come onto the Ryder Cup teams for Europe and just make more putts than they’ve ever made in their careers. I think it’s a confidence thing. They get in with a team, and they’re not playing as individuals anymore. They’re playing as a team. They’re excited to play for their country. They’ve seen their country’s flags go up in the opening ceremonies, and there’s a burst of confidence. And that’s what we’re trying to capture before we get to the Ryder Cup — what is it that pulls these 12 guys together and makes them all play better than they normally play? It’s easy to get more excited. It’s easy to get more nervous. It’s easy to try harder, but it’s not easy to bond as a group and to excel because you’re all working toward the same goal.

McGladrey: You’ve talked a bit about leadership. What makes an effective leader?

Davis Love III: I’ve played for 12 different captains — actually 13, if you count the Walker
Cup — and they’ve almost all done it differently. It always comes down to the performance of the players. The captain can lay out a battle plan. The captain can make the pairings. The captain can be the leader, but ultimately in any team, an army or business team, it comes down them having faith in their leader and then executing their game plan.

We have to instill in our team that the captain has a game plan, and if you stick with it, we will win.

And I’d add that a lot has to do with instilling confidence. When Ben Crenshaw’s team won, we were way behind until the last day. But he kept saying, “I have confidence in you guys. You don’t understand, something exciting is going to happen on the 17th green.”

Well, it did. Justin Leonard made an unbelievable putt on the 17th green, and we won. But we kept gunning for it because our captain kept saying, “I think something great is going to happen,” and it finally did. And that’s all you can ask. I think that’s the biggest thing a captain can do is just keep telling his team, “This is the plan, let’s just stick with it, and it will eventually work.”

Less Than Two Weeks and Counting...!

The McGladrey Classic is less than two short weeks away now, so you might think we’d have all of our “golf power” focused on that event. But…that’s not the case. While The McGladrey Classic is clearly top-of-mind for us these days, several McGladrey leaders and clients recently had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY.

Shinnecock – the No. 3-ranked course on Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses – was the setting for our recent Ultimate Golf Experience (UGE), which offered our guests the opportunity to mingle with Team McGladrey members Natalie Gulbis and Chris DiMarco. It also allowed us to spend valuable time with some of our key private equity clients and prospects, so it was a “win” for everyone involved.

The event kicked off Sept. 13 with a welcome reception where RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews, McGladrey & Pullen Managing Partner Dave Scudder and other members of our leadership team joined Natalie, Chris and guests at an evening reception. The following day, Chris and Natalie conducted a golf clinic with attendees, and then played a couple of holes with each foursome. (Chris and Natalie also evaluated players’ swings – think that’d make you nervous?)

Chris also hosted a discussion with Natalie and her caddie, Greg Sheridan, on the dynamics between a professional golfer and her caddie, during which Natalie drove home the importance of being understood. The event concluded with a reception on the porch, which featured a gorgeous sunset.

Check out Natalie’s blog to hear what she had to say about the experience.

Remember, The McGladrey Classic is Oct. 4 – 10. We’ll be posting daily blog updates from Ricki Lasky, our senior director of sports marketing, throughout the event, so check back often for updates!

More PGA TOUR Professionals Commit to The McGladrey Classic!

We’re starting this week’s post with another word of congratulations – this time to Dustin Johnson on his second PGA TOUR title of the year at the BMW Championship. Great job, Dustin!

After helping out with last week’s Pantene Beautiful Lengths event, Team McGladrey Member Natalie put down the scissors and picked up her clubs again this week to play in the P&G NW Arkansas Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. Congratulations to Yani Tseng who won her third tournament of the year at the event.

The countdown to The McGladrey Classic continues…it’s now less than three weeks way. The excitement is building and the roster is rounding out nicely with Matt Kuchar, Lucas Glover, Boo Weekley, Johathan Byrd, Charles Howell III, Brandt Snedeker and Brendon de Jonge committed to joining Team McGladrey members Davis Love III, Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco for the inaugural event Oct. 4 – 10.

Leading up to The McGladrey Classic, however, we’ll be cheering on Team McGladrey Zach Johnson and other members of Team USA at the Ryder Cup in Wales, Oct. 1 – 3. The McGladrey Classic follows closely on the heels of the Ryder Cup – it’ll take place at Sea Island Oct. 4 – 10. You can purchase tickets at www.mcgladreyclassic.com. Are we going to see you there?

Team McGladrey Makes the Cut!

Congratulations to our very own Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson on being selected by 2010 Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin as one of his four Captain’s picks for the 28th annual Ryder Cup! Zach will join fellow Captain’s picks Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink and Rickie Fowler at the prestigious Celtic Manor Resort’s Twenty Ten Course in Wales October 1-3. Go Team USA!

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis put down her clubs and picked up scissors this week as she and about a dozen other LPGA TOUR professionals cut hair for the Pantene Beautiful Lengths (PBL) initiative. PBL encourages women (or “angels” as they’re called) to donate their hair for use in the making wigs for women who suffer hair loss as a result of chemotherapy treatments while battling cancer. This year, 100 angels (some of whom were LPGA TOUR professionals) donated their hair as a part of this event in Rogers, Arkansas. We’re proud of these angels for their donations, and of Natalie and the other LPGA TOUR professionals who helped make this year’s event such a success.

In less than four weeks, we’ll be at Sea Island for the inaugural McGladrey Classic. We hope to see you there. You can purchase tickets or sign up to volunteer at www.mcgladreyclassic.com.

What Do Buttered Popcorn and Reese's Pieces Have to do with Team McGladrey?

Congratulations to Matt Kuchar for winning The Barclays – great news for a great guy! We’re THRILLED that Matt will be joining Team McGladrey Members Zach Johnson, Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco at beautiful Sea Island for The McGladrey Classic next month! Ben Crane has signed on as well, so the roster is rounding out nicely, and we can hardly wait to head south!

After recently hosting the Natalie Gulbis Charity Classic at The Loon Golf Resort, we learned this week that she’ll be returning there Sept. 24-26 for the Natalie Gulbis Showcase event. We also learned, by the way, that her favorite movie snack is buttered popcorn and Reese’s Pieces. (YUM!) What’s your favorite?

Also up this week, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson was so excited by the record-low airport security lines as he traveled to Boston that he posted a couple of Twitpics about it.

Next week, we’ll learn who Corey Pavin picks to round out his team of 12 for the Ryder Cup. That announcement is scheduled for Tues., Sept. 7, and you can bet we’ll be keeping an eye (and ear) out since the rumor mill has Zach as one of the contenders. Keep your fingers crossed!

It’s hard to believe that The McGladrey Classic is just a little more than a month away. Tickets are available for Wed., Oct. 6 through Sun., Oct. 10, and we’re still looking for volunteers. If you’re interested in helping or in getting tickets, visit www.mcgladreyclassicom.

The Barclays and The Ryder Cup and The McGladrey Classic...Oh My!

Team McGladrey members Zach Johnson and Davis Love III are playing in The Barclays at New Jersey’s Ridgewood Country Club this week (Aug. 26 – 29). And the last time we checked, Davis, in particular, was doing pretty darned well – in the Top 10! We hope you’ll join us as we pull for both Davis and Zach over the weekend.

Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco and Natalie Gulbis aren’t playing this week, but we know from her tweets that Natalie will be watching the Golf Channel since the LPGA is playing in Canada.

Coming up soon, of course, is the Ryder Cup. U.S. Team Captain Corey Pavin has four captain’s selections he will make to round out his team of 12 players. Among those showing up in the multiple predictions we’re reading (other than Tiger, of course) is our very own Zach Johnson! What do you think – will Zach be chosen? What are your predictions?

Also coming up soon: The McGladrey Classic at Sea Island! Tickets are available for Wed., Oct. 6 through Sun., Oct. 10. For more details, to purchase tickets and/or to volunteer, visit www.mcgladreyclassicom.

Thirteen - The McGladrey Classic's Lucky Number!

We were thrilled earlier today when Kodak and the PGA TOUR announced that hole No. 13 at The McGladrey Classic (Oct. 7 – 10) has been added to the 2010 Kodak Challenge schedule!

No. 13 at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, GA was selected based on the recommendation of tournament host and Team McGladrey member Davis Love III. Davis stated, “Basically unchanged since its original design in 1920, No. 13 at the Seaside Course is a classic par-4, as beautiful as it is challenging. For this reason, it fits perfectly into the Kodak Challenge. The late season action of the Kodak Challenge looks to be exciting again this year, and we’re pleased that the players and fans of The McGladrey Classic can be a part of it.”

Editorial comment: How exciting!

The McGladrey Classic will be the 27th of 30 holes in the $1 million Kodak Challenge competition. The Kodak Challenge concludes at No. 17 at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic on Nov. 11-14.

Team McGladrey Makes Us Proud!

Congratulations to Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson for his strong finish at the 92nd PGA Championship last week at Whistling Straights, where he tied for third with Rory McIlroy! It was the best PGA Championship finish ever for Zach, and his second best career finish. Way to go, Zach!

Following the Championship, Zach headed home to spend time with his family. And we understand from his Twitter posts that he took both his three-and-a-half-year-old and three-and-a-half-week-old boys swimming together this week, saying that it was “really, really great” to have them both in the water at the same time.

Also this past weekend, Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis hosted her Charity Classic at Loon Golf Resort in Gaylord, MI. Participants played 54 holes over the weekend and enjoyed a benefit dinner. Natalie posted a great twitpic from the event on her Twitter account. Check it out: http://twitpic.com/2fwcgp.

We’re proud of Zach and Natalie for these recent achievements, and we’re looking forward to working with the rest of Team McGladrey (Davis Love III and Chris DiMarco) to give back to the Sea Island community through The McGladrey Classic, which is now less than two short months away. Tickets are available for Wed., Oct. 6 through Sun., Oct. 10. For more details, to purchase tickets and/or to volunteer, visit www.mcgladreyclassic.com.

Team McGladrey Traveling, Playing, Cooking and Tweeting the Week Away

The McGladrey Classic is less than two short months away, and planning activities are in full swing. In fact, a small contingent from McGladrey spent the earlier part of this week at Sea Island (Hey…it’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it!) “crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s” to make sure this inaugural event is a high-quality one-of-a-kind tournament that you won’t want to miss!

Tickets for The McGladrey Classic are available for Wed., Oct. 6 through Sun., Oct. 10. For more details and/or to purchase tickets, visit www.mcgladreyclassic.com . If you’re interested in rolling up your sleeves and volunteering, you can also find those details at www.mcgladreyclassic.com.

On the Team McGladrey front this week, both Zach Johnson and Davis Love III are playing in the 92nd PGA Championship (Aug. 9 – 15) at Whistling Straights in Kohler, WI. I haven’t been lucky enough to make it to the PGA Championship, but understand that it has served as a launching pad for a number of first-time major champions including Paul Azinger, John Daly, Rich Beem and Team McGladrey member Davis Love III. What do you think – will this year’s Championship produce another first-time champion or will one of the previously proven players (perhaps Zach) win this go-round?

Another tidbit from this week: Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis took an appetizer cooking lesson. Check out the delicious-looking results on Twitter! And speaking of Twitter, check out what Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III had to say about The McGladrey Classic.

A Little "Dish" About Team McGladrey

This week, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is playing at World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, where Tiger is playing for his eighth victory. And after three months away from the game, Anthony Kim returns. Who do you think is going to win? You can get the Live Report at www.pgatour.com.

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is playing at the Turning Stone Resort Championship at Atunyote Golf Club in Verona, New York. After a three-hour weather delay earlier this week, play has resumed. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, and for a good game for Chris!

Neither Team McGladrey members Natalie Gulbis nor Davis Love III are playing this week. Although Natalie has been “dishing” about some of her favorite Las Vegas restaurants recently, including two of her favorites: The Palm Steakhouse in the Caesars Forum Shops and N9ne Steakhouse. Her favorite dessert? S’mores!

Okay…anybody remember how many days till The McGladrey Classic? We’re hoping to see you at Sea Island!

Congrats All Around!

Terrific news this past week for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson as he, his wife Kim and their three-year-old son Will welcomed new baby Wyatt to their family on July 23. Everyone is doing well. Zach has posted some adorable pictures of the new addition on Twitter. You can see those and read Zach’s humorous updates by following him: @ZachJohnsonPGA .

Wednesday of this week, members of the PGA Wives Association and their children rolled up their sleeves and picked fresh produce at the Greenbrier Farm to benefit needy families in the region. Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco’s wife Amy and daughter Abby were among the volunteers picking corn, tomatoes, peppers and other healthy veggies. (Abby particularly enjoyed riding the tractor.) The food will be distributed to local Greenbrier County food banks.

We’d like to congratulate Jiyai Shin for her recent win at the Evian Masters. Jiyai is the first South Korean to win the tournament.

Did you know…there are only 67 days left until the start of the first ever McGladrey Classic (October 4 – 10)? Tickets are available for Wed., Oct. 6 through Sun., Oct. 10. For more details and/or to purchase tickets for The McGladrey Classic, visit www.mcgladreyclassic.com . Interested in volunteering? Let us know and we’ll send you registration details.

Team McGladrey Keepin' it Real!

We’d like to start this week’s update by congratulating a couple of recent winners in the world of golf: Matt Bettencourt, the 11th first-time winner with a one-shot victory at the Reno-Tahoe Open, and South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen who took home the claret jug with his seven-shot win during the recent British Open. (The last time anyone other than Tiger Woods won a major by that large a margin, was in 1980 when Jack Nicklaus won the PGA Championship at Oak Hill – that was 30 years ago!)

Team McGladrey members have been “keeping it real” lately. Here’s a quick overview:

• Chris DiMarco had a strong finish at the Reno-Tahoe Open, where he tied for 10th. (We think his son Cristian, who served as his caddie last week, was a good luck charm!)
• Natalie Gulbis has been busy this week tweeting from (and of course, playing in) the Evian Masters in France. We’re pulling for you, Natalie!
• Davis Love III took a little family time this week, and spent some time paddle boarding with his daughter Lexie.
• And all of us here at McGladrey are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Zach Johnson’s second son, who’s scheduled to make his arrival into the world this week.

LOTS of exciting things going on!

And don’t forget…tickets to The McGladrey Classic are available now. Prices are: Wednesday - $20; Thursday or Friday - $25; Saturday or Sunday - $30; and $15/day for youth (ages 13-17). Children 12 and under are free with a paid adult. Active and retired military, law enforcement officers and firefighters will be admitted free-of-charge with the presentation of their official ID.

For more details and/or to purchase tickets for The McGladrey Classic, visit www.mcgladreyclassic.com .

What's New with - and Something You Might Not Know About - Team McGladrey

This week, Team McGladrey Members Davis Love III and Zach Johnson are playing in the British Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews. This year marks the 150th anniversary of this prestigious event. While players faced some afternoon thunder today, the forecast for the weekend is looking better, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed!

In the meantime, thousands of miles away, fellow Team McGladrey member Chris DiMarco is playing in the Reno Tahoe Open, where the weather to date has been much better.

Obviously, we’re pulling for Davis, Zach and Chris this week. Who are you pulling for to win the British Open and/or the Reno Tahoe Open, and why?

Finally, Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis is off this week, after playing well in last week’s Women’s Open, and celebrating Paula Creamer’s victory.

Here’s something you might not know about Natalie…She was into diving and gymnastics in high school. In fact, she was very close to being an Olympic level gymnast. Learn something new every day now, don’t you?

A week full of excitement for Team McGladrey

We hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July holiday. It's difficult to believe we are halfway through the year already! Speaking of the 4th of July, congratulations to Justin Rose on his win at the AT&T National on Sunday!

It's been a week of great news for Team McGladrey. Things got kicked off on Monday with Zach Johnson's announcement that he and his wife Kim have created the Zach Johnson Foundation to aid children in need in the Cedar Rapids, IA area. The creation of the Zach Johnson Foundation will build on the success of "Birdies that Care", which Zach has been involved with for several years, so more children can receive the support they need early in life. The Zach Johnson Foundation Classic will be the premier event for the Foundation. It will be a Pro-Am tournament that will feature at least four PGA TOUR players as well as some of the game's future superstars. It will take place at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids on August 1, 2011 and will be an annual event.

Last week we promised you not only Zach's announcement, but also one of our own. We are thrilled to announce that Team McGladrey is now a foursome with the addition of Davis Love III to our team. It was also announced that the endorsement agreements with Chris DiMarco, Zach Johnson and Natalie Gulbis have all been extended. The announcements were made this past Tuesday at that John Deere Classic in Silvis, IL where DiMarco, Johnson and Love are all competing this week. Following the announcement, Chris, Zach and Davis visited with some clients of McGladrey and participated in a question and answer session.

Unfortunately Natalie wasn't able to join the guys in Illinois, but there is a good reason for that, as she is in Pennsylvania getting ready to play in this year's U.S. Women's Open Championship which will be contested at Oakmont Country Club. Natalie has tweeted in the past several days that the course should be a great test of golf and that the facility is fantastic. We wish her and all of the other competitors the best of luck.

Don't forget to check out The McGladrey Classic website for all of the latest news and information about the tournament. It's going to be a great event!

Team McGladrey working hard and playing hard

We’d like to start this week’s post by congratulating Bubba Watson for winning his first PGA TOUR event at the Traveler’s Championship last week. While every win is a great win, that first one is always extra special!

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis tied for 25th at the LPGA Championship in Pittsford, NY last week. She’s been in Chicago this week – her first trip to the area since the Solheim Cup last August – where she was the featured guest for the 16th annual President’s Invitational golf outing.

Natalie and the rest of us here at McGladrey were happy to hear about Cristie Kerr nabbing the number one slot in the women’s world golf rankings this week, making her the first American to rise to the top world spot! In fact, we were told that Natalie was so excited that she treated Christie to a champagne bath.

This week, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is still enjoying his much-needed break, but he’ll be playing in next week’s John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. He’s also scheduled to make an exciting announcement Mon., July 5 about a charitable initiative that will benefit his hometown of Cedar Rapids and the state of Iowa, so you’ll want to “keep an ear out” for that.

Fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco will join Zach at the John Deere Classic, and we’re cooking up an announcement ourselves, so stay tuned for that, as well. (Psst…Here’s the inside scoop: You can expect to hear this one Tues., July 6.)

An Update on Team McGladrey

It’s summer time and the living is…busy! Here in the south, that means it’s HOT! And while Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is taking some much-needed time off this week, the rest of Team McGladrey isn’t letting the heat slow them down.

Chris DiMarco is playing at the Travelers Championship this week at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT, where it seems the weather doesn’t want to cooperate. Play has been suspended today due to thunderstorms in the area. Hopefully the players will be back on course soon and Chris will have a great week. (Speaking of the weather…did we catch a glimpse of Chris this morning while the Early Show’s Dave Price was giving the weather forecast from there?) Chris also announced this week that he’ll be playing in the Reno-Tahoe Open July 15-18.

Natalie Gulbis is playing at the LPGA Championship Presented by Wegmans at Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY, and spending some time with a few members of the McGladrey management team, as well as with the “McGladrey snow leopard.” Don’t believe that last line? Check out Natalie’s twitpics on Twitter!

If you haven’t already purchased your tickets for The McGladrey Classic Oct. 7 – 10 at Sea Island, do it now – tickets are on sale, and they’re already proving to be quite popular! You can get your tickets at mcgladreyclassic.com.

Almost summer already?!

We've had several busy weeks here at McGladrey and Team McGladrey has been just as busy and there is no sign of a slow down for any of us! Its mind-blowing that it is already mid June, but that means it is almost officially summer (though it's felt like it for weeks!) and one of the most anticipated weeks in golf...U.S. Open week!

Team McGladrey's Zach Johnson is gearing up for this year's second major championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, CA. The championship officially gets underway today and Zach tees off at 7:33 a.m. PST with Camilo Villegas and Luke Donald. He will play with the same group on Friday at 1:03 p.m. PST. Judging by Zach's tweets over the last few days, the course is playing very fast and having a great short game is going to be paramount with the small greens that Pebble Beach possesses. We'll be rooting for Zach as he looks to win his second tournament of the year and the second major of his career. What a great Father's Day gift that would be!

Natalie Gulbis is in Galloway, NJ this week for the ShopRite LPGA Classic. The ladies are playing at the Dolce Seaview Resort on the Bay Course. The tournament returns to the resort for the first time since 2006. This week's tournament sees Paula Creamer return after having successful surgery to repair a thumb injury and the professional debut of 15 year old Alexis Thompson. It will be an exciting week for the LPGA and we wish Natalie and all of the other competitors the best of luck!

Finally, with Father's Day being this Sunday, all of us at McGladrey want to take the time to wish all of the dad's, grandfathers and fatherly role models out there all the best as you celebrate. If you are looking for a last minute gift for that special guy in your life, head on over to http://www.mcgladreyclassic.com/ and pick up some tickets to The McGladrey Classic!

Teeing Up the McGladrey Brand

Given McGladrey’s recent brand launch activities, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson’s recent Colonial (We can’t decide if he looks better in plaid or in “Masters” green!) win and release of McGladrey’s annual MWD Survey results, our adrenalin is pumping! Those of us here at McGladrey are excited about the direction of our company and about our continued commitment to the world of golf.

During last week’s brand launch, Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco, McGladrey executives, a Special Olympics athlete and Minneapolis-area celebrities “chipped for charity,” into a life-sized putting green cake, raising $2,500 for Special Olympics. After feeding the hundreds of employees and clients who gathered in McGladrey’s Minneapolis office for the event, left-over cake was shared with local food shelters. We were happy to share our excitement about the new McGladrey brand with those in need.

And this past weekend, all three Team McGladrey members played – Natalie Gulbis in the State Farm Classic in Illinois, and Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson in the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee. Zach finished tied for 12th, while Chris finished tied for 61st. Natalie endured a weather-delay-filled-weekend, resulting in the tournament having to finish today. Play resumed at 7a.m.in far more favorable conditions than this past weekend!

Finally, more exciting progress has been made around The McGladrey Classic: Last week, tickets for the Oct. 7-10 Fall Series event went on sale.

Are you planning on attending The McGladrey Classic? We’d love to see you there. Let us know…

Exciting happenings for McGladrey and Team McGladrey

What a week it has been for both McGladrey and Team McGladrey!

The week started off with Zach Johnson's record-setting victory at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial where he sot a 21-under par score of 259. Congratulations to Zach on his fantastic play! It's obvious he loves tournaments in Texas and Georgia, maybe that means good things for The McGladrey Classic in October? We are delighted to have Zach as part of Team McGladrey and look forward to cheering him on as he plays this weekend at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

Meanwhile, Natalie Gulbis has an off week this week prior to next week's LPGA State Farm Classic in Illinois. During her off week Natalie took advantage of an amenity offered to her as a member of the victorious 2009 Solheim Cup Team by spending some time at Canyon Ranch Miami Beach. While at Canyon ranch, Natalie took advantage of the workout classes and facility, the food and also enjoyed the beach. Take a tour of Canyon Ranch Miami Beach with Natalie!

Last but certainly not least, we are thrilled to announce that RSM McGladrey, together with assurance partner firm McGladrey & Pullen, announced today that the two firms will now go to market under a unified "McGladrey" brand. The new "McGladrey" brand will be showcased by unveiling its new logo in Minneapolis, MN on a life-sized 144-square-foot cake weighing approximately 1,100 pounds. The golf-themed cake resembling a life-sized putting green was created in partnership with Minneapolis-based grocery retailer Lunds and Byerly's.

To help celebrate, PGA TOUR Professional and Team McGladrey member Chris DiMarco, McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews, McGladrey & Pullen Managing Partner Dave Scudder, Special Olympics Minnesota representatives and several respected members of the Minneapolis community will attempt ten approximately 20-foot chips at the "putting green" in attempts to raise money for Special Olympics.

For each golf ball that lands on the cake -- which is roughly the size of two side-by-side queen-size mattresses -- RSM McGladrey and McGladrey & Pullen LLP will donate $250 to Special Olympics Minnesota, and for each "ace in cake" or hole-in-one, the firm will donate $2,500. To potentially increase the donation amount, Chris DiMarco, known for his skills with a wedge, has been asked to take multiple "chips for charity."

Good luck to all who will be "Chipping for Charity!" Be sure to check back for photos of all the festivities!

Team McGladrey keeps busy for good causes

It's another very busy week in the world of Team McGladrey!

Zach Johnson is fresh off a week's break and is playing this week in Fort Worth, TX at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The event at Colonial starts a busy four week stretch for the 2007 Masters champion, which concludes with the U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach in mid-June.

As you may remember last year at Colonial they held the first ever "Pink Out" in support of Phil Mickelson's wife Amy and to bring awareness to breast cancer and all those affected by the disease. In order to show continued support for Susan G Komen for the Cure and to continue to help raise awareness, the 2nd Annual Pink Out will take place on Saturday, May 29. The tournament is encouraging everyone; fans, players, caddies and officials, to wear pink in support of the cause. Crowne Plaza will donate $100 for each birdie and $500 for each eagle that is made by a player during Saturday's third round. Kudos to Crowne Plaza for helping to bring awareness to such an important cause!

While Natalie Gulbis has an off week this week, she is anything but idle! Natalie has been busy doing clinics and charity work raising money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, an organization close to her heart. And, speaking of charity, Natalie is also involved with a unique nonprofit called Caddy For A Cure that donates to other charities in efforts to accomplish things like finding a cure for childhood cancer. It provides the ultimate in golf experiences, the opportunity to caddy for a PGA TOUR or LPGA Professional during the practice or Pro-Am round of an official PGA TOUR or LPGA event. During the Wegman's LPGA Championship held at Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY, the winning bidder will have the opportunity to caddy for Natalie. For more information on another great cause, visit http://caddyforacure.com.

Everyone here at McGladrey wishes everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend! Let the summer begin!

An update on Team McGladrey

Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco is playing at the HP Byron Nelson at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas in Irving, Texas this week. We’re watching and wishing him the best!

Zach Johnson is off this week, but we’ve been following him on Twitter. In fact, we’d like to thank him for pointing his followers to The McGladrey Classic Facebook page. Zach and Davis Love III are offering a chance to win a flag signed by the both of them to folks who “like” the fan page by Sunday, May 23, so do that TODAY! The fan page is a great source for the “latest and greatest” information about this new Fall Series event, which will take place in Sea Island, Georgia in October.

Finally, Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis played in the Sybase Match Play Championship at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, NJ this week where, unfortunately, she lost her first round match to Candie Kung. That’s okay, Natalie, we’re pulling for you the rest of the year, and are excited about your announcement earlier this week about participating in the inaugural Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club!

Third time's a charm!

Okay…so we know you’re not surprised that we’re pulling for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson this week as he plays in the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, May 10-16. We’re hoping this year will mark his third consecutive win at the event, putting him “right up there” with Arnold Palmer!

This year, the event is staged at a brand new layout – the new Greg Norman-designed Oaks Course at TPC.

Also, this week, Zach, along with two-time British Open Champion Padraig Harrington, joined the field for the June 10-13 St. Jude Classic in Memphis.

In closing, we’d be remiss this week if we didn’t send condolences on behalf of Team McGladrey to Erica Blasberg’s family and friends. Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis and other LPGA TOUR professionals are honoring Erica this week by wearing purple ribbons. Her sudden death is tragic loss for women’s golf. She will be missed.

A special week at TPC

This week, we’re pulling for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson at The Players Championship being played at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida!

And while we’re keeping a close eye on Zach, earlier in the week at TPC, we were thrilled to learn that three-time major champion Padraig Harrington joined the ranks of Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis when he became a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics. This is in addition to the good work that’s done through Padraig’s own charitable foundation, as well as the various other charities he supports. In his role as a Global Ambassador, Padraig, like Natalie, will mentor Special Olympics golfers.

Congratulations, Padraig, from the entire RSM McGladrey team!

Special Olympics – like the game of golf – is near-and-dear to our hearts, and will be one of the official charities of The McGladrey Classic this October at Sea Island. If you’re interested in volunteering, click here.

It's a great week for Team McGladrey!

Alright…suffice it to say, the entire team here at RSM McGladrey is excited about this week’s golf activities. Team McGladrey is being well-represented on the links this week.

Natalie Gulbis is in Mexico participating in the Tres Marias Championship, where she teed off earlier today with Lorena Ochoa and Ai Miyazato. Natalie couldn’t ask for a better pairing as she will enjoy a front row seat as her friend Lorena retires and she moves on to focus on other interests in her life. On behalf Team McGladrey and the entire RSM McGladrey team, we’d like to wish Lorena the best!

Zach Johnson is enjoying the beautiful North Carolina blue skies this week as he competes at the Quail Hollow Championship. (Okay…so it rained a little earlier in the week…there’s not a cloud in the sky today, and none are expected tomorrow. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for Saturday and Sunday…!)

Who are you pulling for this week at Quail Hollow? We’d love to hear from you!

Celebrating Earth Day!

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. And Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is in one of the most beautiful places on Earth today – Sea Island, Georgia – where he’s filming a commercial, which is scheduled to air beginning this June. While this isn’t necessarily a “green” activity, all of the gorgeous greens at Sea Island do make us wonder…what are YOU doing to celebrate Earth Day?

Another interesting bit of information: This week is National Volunteer Week. And speaking of volunteering, The McGladrey Classic is a mere 165 days away. We’re looking for volunteers for this October 4 – 10 event, so if you know of anyone who wants help out this fall, have them visit http://www.mcgladreyclassic.com/volunteers/volunteers_overview.aspx.

Verizon Heritage and Tax Day - Who's going to win?

It’s tax day and, while we’re HUGE golf fans, we also employ a lot of accountants and today is a BIG day here at RSM McGladrey!

But…another good thing about today is that Team McGladrey Members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson and McGladrey Classic host Davis Love III are all in beautiful Hilton Head, South Carolina playing in the Verizon Heritage (April 12-18). We’re following the tournament closely, and pulling for “our guys.”

Who do you want to win – and why?

The McGladrey Classic on Golf Central

This week’s beautiful weather here in the Carolinas has us thinking about golf and, more specifically, about The McGladrey Classic. The recent kick-off event in Sea Island has us more excited than ever about this new PGA TOUR Fall Series event.

We thought you might enjoy watching this brief McGladrey Classic Golf Central clip, featuring PGA TOUR Professionals Davis Love III and Zach Johnson (who is also a member of Team McGladrey). The clip also features the world’s fastest painter Rock Demarco with what commentator Rick Lerner calls his “Freddie Krueger paintbrush fingers” unveiling The McGladrey Classic logo at Sea Island. In his comments, Zach Johnson says that “giving back, helping people is really why McGladrey is on board.” We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Take a look, and let us know what you think…

What can you do in 10 minutes? The McGladrey Classic kick-off event created a masterpiece!

The March 29 McGladrey Classic kick-off event marked the official beginning of this new PGA TOUR Fall Series Event, which is scheduled for Oct. 4 – 10 at Sea Island.

Having Davis Love III, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson, PGA TOUR’s Rick George, RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews and local dignitaries participate in the event make it extra special, and we thank Zach for his guest post to our blog earlier this week. Zach did a great job capturing the excitement of the event.

We recently uploaded a video of the world’s fastest painter Rock Demarco unveiling The McGladrey Classic logo during the event. Demarco is quite a talent! What do you think – ever seen anything quite like this?

The McGladrey Classic teed up in style at Sea Island, GA - Guest post by Zach Johnson

PGA TOUR Professional Zach Johnson, along with fellow PGA TOUR Professional Chris DiMarco and LPGA TOUR Professional Natalie Gulbis, make up Team McGladrey. Through their involvement with RSM McGladrey, Zach, Chris and Natalie participate in certain activities sponsored by the firm, and support a number of charitable organizations. The message below is from Zach, following his participation in the recent McGladrey Classic community kick-off event:

As most weeks are, this one has been busy. This particular week, however, started off with a unique event Monday, March 29, with one of my sponsors, RSM McGladrey. The McGladrey Classic community kick-off event took place right here in my hometown of Sea Island, Georgia. And as a member of Team McGladrey and The McGladrey Classic Tournament Board, I had the honor of participating in the festivities.

The event began with a few brief opening comments by RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews, PGA TOUR Chief of Operations Rick George and myself. Davis Love III, founder of The Davis Love Foundation, which is the host organization for The McGladrey Classic was going to serve as host for the day, but he was delayed due to weekend rain at Bay Hill. However Davis joined us via phone to welcome the guests and then was able to join us in-person later in the day.

Opening remarks were followed by "the world's fastest painter" Rock Demarco (no relation to fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco) unveiling The McGladrey Classic logo by creating a unique one-of-a-kind work-of-art incorporating the logo right before our eyes. Fascinating! And the best part: The painting (as well as one of Dave Love III and one of me) will be auctioned off later in the year to benefit the charities supported by The McGladrey Classic. The charities will include Special Olympics, with which RSM McGladrey has had a partnership for some time now and locally, the Boys and Girls Club and Safe Harbor.

I hope you'll check in here regularly to keep up with activities related to The McGladrey Classic, and that you'll post your questions and comments here as well. I know I speak on behalf of the entire team at RSM McGladrey when I say that we'd love to get some conversation going about this exciting new PGA TOUR Fall Series event!

The McGladrey Classic...And don't forget to cast your vote!

Another week has come and gone, and we’re growing increasingly excited about the upcoming McGladrey Classic event at Sea Island on March 29th!

We’ve had several planning meetings with our partners at The Davis Love Foundation, the PGA TOUR and the Sea Island team. It’s a great group of folks, and we’re planning a fun event on the 29th, which will include a unique, one-of-a-kind entertainment component. Local dignitaries and media will be there, along with RSM McGladrey’s leadership team, Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson and other guests. You’ll be able to get updates from us on Twitter, Facebook and from right here on our blog.

We’ll also keep you posted as things progress for The McGladrey Classic, which will take place October 4 – 10 on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Resort.

In the meantime, don’t forget to vote for Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis in Esquire magazine’s “Sexiest Woman Alive” contest. The last time we checked, USC football coach Lane Kiffin was in the lead by a 57 to 43 percent margin. We’re pulling for you, Natalie!
