Happy Holidays from RSM McGladrey!

The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on the year’s accomplishments and to look forward to the coming year. While we had the pleasure of sponsoring numerous golf-related events in 2009, one of the accomplishments of which we’re most proud is that we were able to present a check for more than $175,000 to Special Olympics in support of the organization’s golf program. These funds were raised through a number of RSM McGladrey-sponsored activities throughout the year, and through the generous support of our employees, clients and potential clients. We’d like to thank them for their generosity, and look forward to working with them again in 2010 to support our community.

We’ll be taking a brief break from our golf blog over the coming days to spend a little extra time with family and friends. We hope you will be able to do the same this holiday season.

We look forward to talking with you here again next year. In the meantime, we’d like to wish you and yours a happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous 2010!

Guest Post by PGA Tour Professional Chris DiMarco

PGA Tour Professional Chris DiMarco, along with Zach Johnson and LPGA Tour Professional Natalie Gulbis, make up Team McGladrey. Through their involvement with RSM McGladrey, Natalie, Chris and Zach participate in certain activities sponsored by the firm, and support a number of charitable organizations. The following post is an update from Chris after he participated in the recent Shark Shootout in Naples, FL:

I recently participated in one of my favorite golf events, The Shark Shootout, at the Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Florida. This event, hosted by World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman is one of the most unique events on The PGA Tour. I’d like to congratulate 2009 winners: Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker.

This was my third consecutive year playing in the Shark Shootout, and my fourth time overall. This year, however, I not only had the honor of playing the course with two-dozen of the world’s top professional golfers, but I was also able to spend some time with a couple of leaders from RSM McGladrey, one of my sponsors.

Jon Davis and Jay Zack work out of RSM McGladrey’s Naples office, and they brought a few of their clients and potential clients along with them. We had a great time talking about golf and sharing tips and stories. They even humored me by asking me to autograph their PING hats. It was a great way to wind down a busy year.

I hope you are able to spend time with family and friends this holiday season, and that you enjoy a prosperous New Year!

What's in a name?

RSM McGladrey recently hosted its second Ultimate Golf Experience. Held in beautiful Sea Island, Georgia, the event was, well…the ultimate golf experience!

Dick Noonan, RSM McGladrey regional managing director – northeast, served as master of ceremonies, welcoming a small group of RSM McGladrey executives and prestigious clients to the event during a dinner the evening of Sun., Nov. 15. Client participants included:

• Erik Bloom, Partner, Goense & Company
• Jim Blue, Chairman & CEO, The Bostonian Group
• Gary Domoracki, CEO, Fireman Capital Advisors
• Richard Kaye, Partner, Arnall, Golden & Gregory
• Daniel Kortick, Managing Partner, The Wicks Group of Companies
• William McEnery, Executive Vice President, Gas City
• George Moore, CEO & President, MC Assembly
• Craig O’Neal, Chief Financial Officer, Grain Millers, Inc. .
• Phil Roberts, Chief Financial Officer, Roush Fenway Racing
• Peter Roque, President & CEO, VH Blackinton Co., Inc.
• Jon Stockel, Chief Financial Officer, BWP Distributors, Inc.
• Dennis Willson, President & CEO, Cytokine PharmaSciences, Inc.

PGA Tour Professionals and Team McGladrey Members Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco joined activities the morning of Mon., Nov. 16, after finishing 9th and 14th, respectively at The Children’s Miracle Network Classic at Disney.

The Ultimate Golf Experience included a golf clinic hosted by Chris and Zach at Sea Island’s Frederica Golf Club, followed by Chris and Zach each playing two holes with the groups. Activities concluded with a dinner at the club’s boathouse, where highlights included a Q&A with Chris and Zach.

Here’s what a couple of our clients had to say about their favorite part of the experience:

“There were many but meeting the people from McGladrey (including clients, spouses and Chris and Zach) was the best part of the experience. I play golf all the time and I eat and stay in some pretty nice places (although this one was really, really nice). However, I have seldom been around such a great group of people. They were intelligent, informative and fun.”

“Words fail but, in a word, incomparable. This was simply the best day I have spent in the last 10 years. Everything about it was first-class – from the people, to the place, to the golf course, to the pros. I expected to have a good time; I had a great time. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

RSM McGladrey’s next Ultimate Golf Experience is scheduled for Dec. 7 and 8 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis will host the event. Check back here next month for an update on that. In the meantime, let us know if there’s anything in particular about Team McGladrey that you’d like to discuss here on our golf blog!

Guest Post by Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson

Editor’s Note: PGA Tour Professional and Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson is competing this week (Mon., Nov. 9 – Sun., Nov. 15) in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic at Disney’s Magnolia and Disney’s Palm Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Below are a few of Zach’s comments from Disney:

We were all anxiously watching The Weather Channel as Hurricane Ida plodded toward the Gulf Coast with 100 mph winds, bringing the threat of flooding and storm surges. Fortunately, however, it turned out to be beautiful here at Disney so, in spite of my fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco’s tardiness (couldn’t let the opportunity to rib a good teammate pass me by!), we were able to play the back nine.

The Children’s Miracle Network Classic is one of my personal favorites – a great cause, beautiful courses and a laid-back setting that provides opportunities for family members to join you for a good time and good food at Disney World. In fact, I met my wife Kim and son Will at Epcot for dinner Tuesday evening, after they spent the day at the park. It’s always a treat to be able to fit in some good quality family time while playing.

One of the interesting things that took place this week was filming and a photo session for an upcoming RSM McGladrey ad, which will feature my caddie Damon Green and me talking about “the power of being understood” on the golf course, and how that understanding can translate into winning results. One of my favorite examples of this was in Augusta in 2007 when Damon and I really leaned on one another to win The Masters. Slipping on that Green Jacket was truly a dream come true, and talking about that experience this week brought back great memories. Damon even re-enacted his famous chicken dance, which he performs after each of our wins. Priceless!

The Children’s Miracle Network Classic is my last PGA Tour event of the season. I’ll be playing twice more in PGA Tour-sanctioned events this year: the Chevron World Challenge in Southern California, hosted by Tiger Woods (Dec. 2 – 6), followed by The Shark Shootout in Naples, hosted by Greg Norman (Dec. 9 – 13). After that, I’ll be taking a break until January, when I’ll begin the season with the Mercedes Benz Championship in Hawaii. Until then, keep an eye out for RSM McGladrey’s “power of being understood” ads featuring Damon and me. Following those ads, you’ll see a version featuring Chris and his caddie Ryan Rue…assuming they weren’t running too late for their filming and photo session…

Team McGladrey continues to prove that with the right team, anything's possible...

Team McGladrey Members Chris DiMarco, Natalie Gulbis and Zach Johnson continue to make us proud – both on and off the course. All three Team McGladrey members are big supporters of the community – so much so that we can’t highlight all of those activities here. Last week (Nov. 1 and 2), however, Chris DiMarco, along with “The First Lady of Golf” Nancy Lopez, co-hosted the Ninth Annual Norma DiMarco (named after Chris’ late mother) “Tee Up for Life” golf tournament. We wanted to share a few highlights from that special event event with you.

Tee Up for Life, held at the Country Club at Heathrow in Heathrow, Florida, supports Reaching Out to Cancer Kids (ROCK) and cancer research – a cause that’s near-and-dear to Chris’ heart after having lost his mother to the disease years ago.

RSM McGladrey and the New York Stock Exchange sponsor Tee Up for Life, and many other generous supporters contributed to the success of this year’s event by donating auction items and by bidding on those during the event’s live auction. This year’s auction raised about $312,000, bringing the grand total raised for ROCK and cancer research through Tee Up for Life activities to more than $4 million.

For RSM McGladrey Chief Business Process and Technology Officer Bob Gerardi, who participated in this year’s Tee Up for Life tournament, the event was especially meaningful. “I have participated in Tee Up for Life for the last four years, and this year was particularly poignant after having lost my dad to cancer in April,” said Gerardi. “I truly appreciate RSM McGladrey’s support of and involvement in this outstanding event, which raises money to fight cancer and make a positive impact in the lives of the innocent children afflicted with this cruel and indiscriminate disease.”

The beat goes on...

The 2009 McGladrey National Team Championship is now behind us, but…the “buzz” continues!

We’ve noticed a number of tweets and twitpics posted on by various individuals, including jaysgolftips, latestgolf, PinHighFitness, bestgolfnews, mybestnews, and LPGA Tour Professional and Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis – just to name a few. We’ve also seen coverage of The McGladrey Team Championship by, SoloPortfolio Blog, Armchair Golf Blog, Going Concern, The Pilot Online,, Reuters, Hoover’s Online, The Sports Network Online and on major television channels ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX.

We’ve uploaded a brief video to our YouTube channel (McGladreyNews, for those of you who might be interested in checking out other videos on our channel), which shows highlights from our live auction to benefit Special Olympics golf program. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to view it (You’ll be amazed by how much the autographed Peyton Manning jersey and the Sheryl Crow guitar raised!), and to let us know what you think. In the meantime, we’d like to give a special thanks to everyone featured in the video, including:

• LPGA Tour Professional Natalie Gulbis for her opening remarks and overall assistance with the auction,
• The PGA of America’s CEO Joe Steranka for his kind words about the importance of sponsorships and about RSM McGladrey, and
• best-selling author, Golf Channel reporter and host of The PGA TOUR Network’s “Fairways of Life,” Matt Adams, for emceeing the auction.

Particular appreciation goes to Special Olympics Global Messenger Carl Hibbert Jr. Thank you, Carl, for sharing your thoughts about what your personal experience with Special Olympics has meant to you. Your heartfelt words served as a real-life example of “the power of being understood.”

Last but not least, while they weren’t featured in the video, we’d also like to express our appreciation to fellow Team McGladrey Members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson for joining us in Pinehurst for The 2009 McGladrey National Team Championship – proving once again that, with the right team, anything’s possible!

Congratulations Southern California Section!

The Southern California Section team from Whispering Lakes Golf Course of Ontario, Cal. has won this year’s McGladrey Team Championship. Congratulations to PGA Professional Tim Walsh and his team Jim Erdman, Larry Metter and Bill Minnis!

The Philadelphia Section from Tavistock Country Club in New Jersey took second place, and the Northern Ohio Section from Stubenville Country Club took third.

We’d like to thank all of the teams who competed in this year’s Team Championship, making it such a success. And we’d like to once again thank all of those who contributed items for the silent and live auctions, which raised nearly $35,000 for Special Olympics, pushing the grand total raised for this worthy cause through RSM McGladrey-sponsored events to a whopping $175,725! What a way to wrap up the third annual McGladrey Team Championship – with the right team, anything is TRULY possible!

A first-hand account from Pinehurst - a guest post by Paul Knight and Colin Sanderson

Paul Knight is a business developer and Colin Sanderson is the managing director – RSM McGladrey, New York. Paul and Colin returned to The McGladrey Team Championship for the second year in a row, after their team took the Metropolitan Section Championship in Rye, NY, earlier this year.

It’s very exciting and rewarding to be playing in The 2009 McGladrey Team Championship at Pinehurst! We’re happy about playing with RSM McGladrey client, Jeff Glat, and the PGA Professional from the Apawamis Club in Rye.

The McGladrey Championship provides a great opportunity to spend some quality time with clients and potential clients. This helps us get to really know these important people – and to understand how we at RSM McGladrey can best meet their needs. That understanding builds trust. And as our new ad campaign states, “When you trust the advice you’re getting, you know your next move is the right one.” That’s the power of being understood.

This year’s Team Championship has been especially rewarding with the inclusion of Special Olympics in the days’ activities. We appreciate how certain opportunities that have had a positive impact on our lives were made possible through the contributions of others. Meeting Special Olympics athletes here in person shows us first-hand how our contributions support others. These special athletes are getting once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that they would not have without Special Olympics. We’re proud to be able to support such a worthy cause.

Paul got the team off to a good start, making a par / net birdie on the first hole to get the team rolling. Colin and Kyle Baehler (Apawamis Professional) played a steady game throughout the day, getting six natural birdies between them. Jeff Glat finished strong to help bring the team to -10 for the day, tied for seventh place. While the Southern California and North Texas teams are ahead by 14 strokes, we’re only four strokes away from 3rd place, and are hoping to close the gap. We aim to work on our putting early this morning. And we’re hoping for no rain.

Good morning from Pinehurst!

There was a LOT going on with The McGladrey Team Championship here in Pinehurst yesterday and last night!

Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis hosted our live auction for Special Olympics, while Sirius XM Radio’s Matt Adams served as emcee for the evening. The generosity of those who contributed items for the auctions (We had a silent auction in addition to the live auction.) and those who bid on them is truly humbling. While we haven’t tallied the totals yet, we’re were thrilled to raise $2,000 for an autographed Sheryl Crowe and sold $2,380 worth of raffle tickets for three lucky winners to have breakfast with Natalie. We’re anxious to share the grand total of our fundraising efforts, and will be posting that here on Tues., Oct. 27.

This morning, RSM McGladrey's new ad campaign, featuring Natalie Gulbis and her caddie Greg Sheridan, debuts in the Marketplace section of The Wall Street Journal. "The power of being understood demonstrates how strong relationships enhance understanding and lead to success.

Team McGladrey Members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson, along with Natalie, will participate in golf clinics with McGladrey Team Championship players and Special Olympics athletes this morning. We’ll be using Ustream to share video from those clinics, as well as other McGladrey Team Championship activities. Check those out on our YouTube channel.

Remember to tune in to XM Radio 11 a.m., ET, over the next few days to hear interviews with Chris, Natalie and Zach. Remember, too, that if you have a question you’d like to ask a Team McGladrey member, submit that here. We’ll try to get those answered for you.

Now…it’s off to the course…

An update from Pinehurst

It’s a beehive of activity here at Pinehurst as we handle final preparations for The McGladrey Team Championship.

Events begin this evening with a welcoming reception and auctions to benefit Special Olympics’ golf program, the official charity of The McGladrey Championship. We’re looking forward to having Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis host the live auction and to raising funds for such a great cause.

Team McGladrey Members Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson will be joining us tomorrow, and we’re looking forward to that as well.

We’ll share updates from the auction, as well as other activities over the coming days. Let us know what you think – post your comments and/or questions you’d like answered by Chris, Zach or Natalie here.

This is it!

Ready or not…the activities related to the national finals of The McGladrey Team Championship in Pinehurst begin this Sunday (Oct. 25), with a welcome reception and live and silent auctions to benefit Special Olympics! We’ll be auctioning off some AMAZING items this year, including a Pete Sampras autographed tennis ball, a TUMI expandable wheeled packing case with suiter, a two-night/three-day Pinehurst package for two, a Sheryl Crow autographed guitar, and two suite tickets to a Washington Wizards or Capitals game at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. With all of these great items up for grabs (and with the holidays right around the corner), we’re hoping to raise LOTS of money for Special Olympics’ golf program, the official charity of The McGladrey Team Championship.

The McGladrey Team Championship itself begins with the first wave teeing off on Pinehurst’s Course No. 8 at 7:45 a.m. on Mon., Oct. 26, followed by the second wave at 12:15 p.m. Event activities wrap up with an awards ceremony the afternoon of Wed., Oct. 28.

We’re excited this year that two of our very own RSM McGladrey employees – Colin Sanderson (managing director – New York) and Paul Knight (business development director) – will be competing in this year’s National Championship, following their team’s win at the Metropolitan Section Championship in Rye, NY. Joining Colin and Paul will be Jeff Glat (one of their clients) and PGA Professional Kyle Baehler. Since we have a bit of an “inside track” with this team, we hope to get them to post some thoughts about their personal experiences with The McGladrey Team Championship here while in Pinehurst. Stay tuned for that.

And speaking of staying tuned…SiriusXM Radio’s Matt Adams will be joining us in beautiful Pinehurst. In addition to serving as emcee for the Special Olympics auctions, Matt will be broadcasting updates from The McGladrey Championship, which will include individual interviews with all three Team McGladrey members – Chris DiMarco, Natalie Gulbis and Zach Johnson – all of whom will be participating in the National Championship. Tune in next Monday through Wednesday. Better yet…if you have any questions about The McGladrey Team Championship and/or related activities, let us know by posting those here. We’ll get answers to you right here on The McGladrey Golf Blog!

The McGladrey Team Championship is right around the corner...

Congratulations to the U.S. Team for winning The President’s Cup!

We’re now finalizing plans for the upcoming National Finals of The McGladrey Team Championship in Pinehurst. While the competition technically takes place Oct. 26 – 28, we’ll have a welcome reception the evening of Sun., Oct. 25. Activities will include silent and live auctions to benefit Special Olympics golf program, the official charity of The McGladrey Team Championship.

We’re excited about all of the wonderful donations that are going to make this year’s auction a success. And we’re looking forward to presenting the proceeds from the auctions, as well as other McGladrey-sponsored fundraisers that have taken place over the past year, to Special Olympics representatives during The McGladrey Championship. We’ll share those details from Pinehurst, so check back here for that announcement.

As if that weren’t enough excitement, we’re also fortunate enough to have all three Team McGladrey members – Chris DiMarco, Natalie Gulbis and Zach Johnson – attending this year’s Championship. If you have a question that you’d like Chris, Natalie and/or Zach to answer, let us know. If we’re able to get an answer for you, we’ll share it here. Or…you might even hear it on XM Radio during The McGladrey Championship!

We’ll be posting lots of other news and stories from Pinehurst. We hope you’ll check back often!

Continuing down the path to Pinehurst

Congratulations to Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis on her performance during the recent Navistar LPGA Classic!

We’ve been following Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson and the rest of the U.S. Team at The President’s Cup this week, and are hoping for a U.S. win!

Plans for The National McGladrey Team Championship (Oct. 26-28) are now in high gear. We’re looking forward to seeing Natalie, Zach and fellow Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco in Pinehurst, along with representatives from The PGA of America and Special Olympics. It promises to be an action-packed few days!

Speaking of The Team Championship, the generosity of those who have donated items for the event’s silent and live auctions continues to astound us. As part of The McGladrey Team Championship/Special Olympics partnership, we’ve been raising funds for Special Olympics athletes over the past year through Local Qualifying Event (LQE) entry fees and RSM McGladrey-sponsored events across the country. Thanks to these wonderful auction item donations, we’ll raise even more funds to help Special Olympics’ goal of increasing acceptance and inclusion for people with disabilities. That’s the power of teamwork!

We’ll post results of our fundraising efforts here from Pinehurst later this month. In the meantime, we’d love to hear from you – about anything related to The McGladrey Team Championship or golf in general. What’s on your mind?

Golf, golf and MORE golf!

We’ve been tracking Team McGladrey Member Natalie Gulbis’ performance in the Navistar LPGA Classic at Capitol Hill in Prattville, Alabama, and will continue to keep up with her over the weekend. (Check out her recent interview about the tournament!) Best wishes, Natalie!

Next week, Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson will be competing as part of the U.S. Team at The President’s Cup, October 6-11 at San Francisco’s Harding Park Golf Club. Joining Zach will be Team Captain Fred Couples, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Kenny Perry, Stewart Cink, Sean O’Hair, Jim Furyk, Anthony Kim and Justin Leonard, along with captain’s pick members Lucas Glover and Hunter Mahan. Greg Norman will be Team Captain for the International Team, and he will be joined by Geoff Ogilvy, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els and other world-class golfers. You can tune into the tournament on the Golf Channel Wednesday through Friday and on NBC Saturday and Sunday. You can bet we’ll be watching!

Of course, we can’t miss this opportunity to remind everyone about The National McGladrey Team Championship in Pinehurst (Oct. 26-28). The Team Championship will offer combined prize money and gift certificates exceeding $200,000. This’ll be the first year all three Team McGladrey members – Chris DiMarco, Natalie Gulbis and Zach Johnson – will be at The Team Championship together, supporting VIPs, amateur golfers and PGA Professionals. We’re looking forward to seeing Chris, Natalie and Zach there, and to raising funds for Special Olympics golf program, the official charity of The McGladrey Team Championship. With the right team, anything’s possible!

Déjà vu? No…Tiger wins FedEx Cup for second time in three years!

Of course, we were a little partial to Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson during the recent FedEx Cup but, on behalf of Zach and the entire McGladrey team, we’d like to congratulate Tiger for winning this year’s FedEx Cup! Tiger took the title with a 1,080-point win over Phil Mickelson, who won the The Tour Championship, but finished second in FedEx Cup points – a thrilling end to a long PGA Tour season.

Following Mickelson (ranked in order) were: Steve Stricker, Jim Fuyrk, Sean O’Hair and our very own Zach Johnson! We’re proud of and inspired by the performance of these top professionals!

Coming up next for Zach is The President’s Cup at Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco. Shortly after that, Zach will join fellow Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco and Natalie Gulbis at The National McGladrey Team Championship in Pinehurst (Oct. 26-28). Check back here often for updates, and for news and photos from Pinehurst!

Rain, rain, go away...

To say that it’s been a wet week in Georgia is a vast understatement. Water hazards at East Lake Golf Club are full to the brim and, according to, “mud oozes from underfoot with every step taken.” Not a good week for golf.

We here at RSM McGladrey are anxiously watching the weather and hoping for drier conditions for the upcoming FedExCup. Of course, we’ll be pulling for Team McGladrey Member Zach Johnson, but are excited about seeing #1 ranked Tiger Woods, #2 Steve Stricker, #3 Jim Furyk and all of the other great golfers play, as well.

Who are you pulling for?

On a side note, CONGRATULATIONS PGA Tour veteran Kenny Perry for being named the 2009 Payne Stewart Award winner – quite an honor!

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Go Zach!

We’ve been excitedly watching Team McGladrey Member and PGA Tour Professional Zach Johnson’s recent performances, and just can’t contain our excitement any longer! Zach is currently ranked #4 in the FedExCup. He has already had two impressive wins this year – at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the Texas Valero Open, along with eight Top 10 and 14 Top 25 finishes.

You can bet that all of us here are RSM McGladrey – as well as fellow Team McGladrey members Chris DiMarco and Natalie Gulbis – will be pulling for Zach in the days ahead as he attempts to become the FedEx Cup Champion, and we’re looking forward to coming together for The McGladrey National Team Championship in Pinehurst next month (Oct. 26-28).

If you’d like to share your best wishes for Zach, post them here – we’ll pass them along so he’ll know you’re rooting for him. With the right team, anything’s possible!

On Our Minds

We’re watching Team McGladrey members Natalie Gulbis and Zach Johnson, as Natalie plays in the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship in Rogers, Arkansas, and Zach plays in the BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois. Go, Natalie and Zach!

We’re looking forward to seeing all three Team McGladrey members – Natalie, Zach and Chris DiMarco) in Pinehurst next month at the third annual National Team Championship (Oct. 26-28).

And while our minds are on the great game of golf, we, like millions around the world, are taking time to pause and remember those impacted by the devastating events that took place on this date eight years ago. Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones during the attacks of 9/11. Those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and for their fellow man will never be forgotten.

That spirit of giving brings the partnership between The McGladrey Team Championship and Special Olympics to the forefront of our minds. We would like to thank those of you who have so generously donated items for the auction that will be held during The National Team Championship. Special Olympics athletes from across the country will benefit from the donations that will be raised by the auction. If you have not yet made a donation, but would like to support a great cause, it’s not too late…just fill out the online donation form. Questions? Contact Ricki Lasky, Senior Director of Sports Marketing with RSM McGladrey via e-mail at or by phone at 980.233.4721.

Help Us Help Special Olympics

Congratulations to Team McGladrey member Natalie Gulbis and the entire USA Team on winning the Solheim Cup! With that victory behind us and with back-to-school activities in full swing, our thoughts are turning to the fall. And with thoughts of fall come thoughts of the National Championship for The McGladrey Team Championship, scheduled for Oct. 26 – 28 in beautiful Pinehurst!

This third year of The McGladrey Team Championship will be extra special for two reasons: (1) all three Team McGladrey members – Chris DiMarco, Natalie Gulbis and Zach Johnson – will come together for the first time, and (2) we’ll continue our focus on The McGladrey Team Championship/Special Olympics partnership.

Throughout Special Olympics 40-year history, athletes with intellectual disabilities have come together to compete, showing that people of all backgrounds, cultures, races and ages can work together to celebrate what we have in common. Whether they’re receiving an autographed golf ball from PGA Tour Professional Zach Johnson or a putting lesson from LPGA Tour Professional Natalie Gulbis, the excitement and enthusiasm of Special Olympics athletes is contagious.

RSM McGladrey will celebrate Special Olympics athletes through a silent auction at The McGladrey Team Championship National Championship in October in Pinehurst, with all proceeds going to Special Olympics golf program. But, for the auction to be successful, we need YOUR help!

We are looking for donated auction items. These can be products (iPods, autographed sports memorabilia, etc.) or professional services – anything of value on which people might be interested in bidding for a worthy cause. If you have items suitable for donation and/or if you know of someone who might be interested in making a donation, please submit a completed donation form at your earliest convenience. If you have questions, contact Ricki Lasky, Senior Director of Sports Marketing with RSM McGladrey via e-mail at or by phone at 980.233.4721.
Thank you in advance for helping prove that with the right team, anything's possible!

After slow start, Johnson finishes Top 10 at PGA Championship

After last Thursday's first round of The PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club many had counted Zach Johnson out. After his first round score of 74 (+2) many expected him to disappear to the bottom of the leaderboard, with some even speculating that he would miss the cut.

Zach being the tenacious competitor he is, took to the range and putting green following his opening round and worked on the things that had plagued him as he made his way around the lengthy Hazeltine layout. The PGA Tour veteran went into the week knowing that the golf course was going to play extremely long and that he was going to have to rely on his accuracy and superb shortgame to shoot the scores he needed to to be competitive.

Over the course of the next three days, Zach played well and handled the tough conditions set forth by a major championship like the champion he is. He made a steady climb up the leaderboard and by the conclusion of play on Sunday, he had secured himself a Top 10 finish.

Congratulations to Team McGladrey member Zach Johnson on a fantastic finish!

Zach Johnson helps raise money for Special Olympics at Hazeltine

Exciting news this week from The PGA Championship at Hazeltine!

Team McGladrey Member and PGA Tour Professional Zach Johnson was on hand to help McGladrey employees from the Great Plains region present Special Olympics with a $42,000 donation, raised by employees over the course of the summer. McGladrey executives, Special Olympics athletes and other VIPs were there to help celebrate the occasion.

McGladrey employees who donated $1,000 or more were eligible to win an opportunity to participate in The PGA of America’s “Walk within the Ropes” program during the Championship. McGladrey & Pullen Managing Director Christi Mack of Minneapolis was the lucky winner of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and is scheduled to walk with Zach Johnson, Mike Weir and Boo Weekly tomorrow (Fri., Aug. 14).

Those were our highlights from this week. What were your week’s highlights? What’s coming up? What would you like to talk about here on our blog? We’re anxious to get the conversation started!

Welcome to the RSM McGladrey Golf Blog!

We created this blog in hopes of engaging golfers, philanthropists, employees, clients and potential clients in conversations about “all things golf”– to build a community of like-minded people interested in sharing ideas and learning from one another. First, a quick introduction:

RSM McGladrey, along with McGladrey & Pullen LLP, is the nation’s fifth-largest accounting, tax and business consulting firm. At McGladrey, we believe that with the right team, anything’s possible. And it’s in that spirit of teamwork that we’re partnering with Special Olympics to support their more than 17,000 golfers. Why Special Olympics and why the golf program? It’s a natural fit for a number of reasons.

Special Olympics is made up of passionate, committed individuals from every walk of life, who recognize the value and unique gifts of people with intellectual disabilities. And who, together, share the common belief in dignity, equality and opportunity for ALL people. That focus on inclusion resonates with us at McGladrey, where we strive to attract talent from all walks of life because we know that diversified thinking leads to great results.

Special Olympics golf program is also a natural fit with The McGladrey Team Championship, which is The PGA of America’s only nationwide amateur best-ball competition. The McGladrey Team Championship named Special Olympics as its official charity to provide their athletes with enriching opportunities both on and off the course.

Team McGladrey members PGA tour professionals Chris DiMarco and Zach Johnson, and LPGA tour professional Natalie Gulbis are big supporters of the Special Olympics partnership, as well. Natalie serves as the official spokesperson for our partnership and, along with Chris and Zach, participates in activities that include and/or support Special Olympic golfers.

In the near future, we’ll be providing an exciting new opportunity for our employees, clients, potential clients and friends to support Special Olympics through “Walk with a Champion.” In addition to raising funds for a worthy cause, this program will give two Special Olympics golfers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk within the ropes during a full round of The PGA Championship. We’ll share more details about that here soon. In the meantime, let us hear from YOU! What do you want to talk about here on our blog? Let’s get the conversation started!

RSM McGladrey operates in an alternative practice structure with McGladrey & Pullen LLP, a partner-owned CPA firm that delivers audit and attest services. Through separate and independent legal entities, they work together to serve clients’ business needs. Together, the companies rank as the fifth largest U.S. provider of accounting, tax and business consulting services (source: Accounting Today), with nearly 7,000 professionals and associates in nearly 90 offices. RSM McGladrey Inc. and McGladrey & Pullen LLP are member firms of RSM International, an affiliation of independent accounting and consulting firms. RSM McGladrey is the official accounting, tax and business consulting firm of The PGA of America.
